The Fire Island Beach House is nestled at 25 Cayuga St, Ocean Beach, NY 11770, USA. This prime location places it right in the heart of Ocean Beach, one of Fire Island's most popular and vibrant communities. Fire Island itself is a barrier island running parallel to the southern shore of Long Island, and it's renowned for its pristine beaches, car-free communities, and laid-back atmosphere.
For New Yorkers, accessibility to Fire Island is part of its charm. The most common way to reach Ocean Beach is via ferry. Ferries to Ocean Beach depart from Bay Shore, Long Island. Bay Shore is easily accessible by car, with parking available at the ferry terminal, or by Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) from Penn Station. Once you arrive at the Ocean Beach ferry terminal, the Fire Island Beach House is typically a short and pleasant walk away, as Ocean Beach is a pedestrian-friendly village where cars are not permitted. This unique aspect adds to the island's serene and relaxed ambiance, encouraging guests to explore on foot or by bicycle. The journey itself becomes part of the adventure, transitioning you from the fast pace of the city to the tranquil rhythm of island life. Being centrally located in Ocean Beach means guests have easy access to the village's shops, restaurants, and, of course, the beautiful beaches.
The Fire Island Beach House provides a range of services designed to make your stay comfortable, although some guests have noted areas for improvement. Based on available information and past guest experiences, here's what you can expect:
Accommodation: The hotel offers various room types, including bungalows and suites, aiming to cater to different group sizes. Some accommodations may include kitchenettes, though the practical usability of these kitchens, regarding available utensils and cookware, has been a point of feedback from previous guests.
Housekeeping: Standard housekeeping services are generally provided, though the frequency and responsiveness to requests for amenities like additional towels have been highlighted by some visitors as areas where the hotel could enhance its service.
Pool Access: Guests typically have access to a communal pool area, a popular amenity for relaxation and enjoyment, especially during warmer months. However, the availability of pool towels and the process for obtaining them have been mentioned in guest reviews.
Limited In-Room Amenities: It's important to note that certain in-room amenities commonly found in other hotels, such as full-length mirrors, adequate in-room furniture (tables, chairs, dressers), mini-fridges, and sufficient hangers or hooks, have been reported as lacking by some guests. Similarly, kitchenettes, where available, may have minimal provisions in terms of silverware, cups, or functional cookware.
While individual experiences can vary, the Fire Island Beach House has several features that define its unique offering:
Proximity to the Beach: One of the most significant highlights is its location's proximity to the beautiful beaches of Fire Island. This offers immediate access to sun, sand, and surf, making it ideal for beach lovers.
Unique Island Experience: Being on Fire Island, a car-free environment, provides a distinctly relaxed and pedestrian-friendly atmosphere that is a significant departure from city life. This allows for a truly immersive island escape.
Bungalow and Suite Options: The availability of bungalows and suites provides more space and privacy compared to standard hotel rooms, which can be appealing for families or larger groups, despite some noted issues with in-room furnishings and kitchen provisions.
Outdoor Spaces: Some accommodations may feature private decks or outdoor areas, offering a pleasant space to relax, though the provision of outdoor furniture like umbrellas and tables has been noted as inconsistent.
Communal Pool Area: The presence of a pool offers an alternative to the beach for swimming and relaxation, particularly on days when ocean conditions might not be ideal.

Fire Island Beach House Reviews
I recently stayed at this hotel and unfortunately, my experience was not as pleasant as I had hoped. While the location was convenient, I encountered a few significant issues during my stay.First and foremost, I discovered bedbugs in my room, which was incredibly unsettling and made it difficult to relax. They were literally present in all three beds in the suite. Additionally, I was disappointed to find that there was no full-length mirror available, which would have been helpful for getting ready especially in a suite meant for 5+ guests. Lastly, the lack of adequate in-room furniture made the space feel sparse and uncomfortable- no table, no chairs and no dresser at all. Also, beware that the rooms do not have any mini fridge which would have been useful.Overall, while the hotel had potential, these issues really detracted from my experience. We notified the staff of the bud bugs immediately after finding them, and were met with a complete lack of care or concern from the staff. I hope they can address these concerns for future guests as the stay did not equate the price we paid.
Sep 04, 2024 · christine FernandezThis hotel is very unique, normally hotel staff tries to please their guests and accommodate them. The Fire Island Beach House is not interested in pleasing their guests. I paid $1200.00 a night for a bungalow that sleeps six. It’s also equipped with a kitchen, basically the kitchen is empty. No silverware, one or two cups or glasses. You can’t cook in the pots and pans they were in such bad shape. Their is not table to eat on even if you wanted to cook. They have a nice deck outside with no umbrella or table just some chairs. They gave us 3 bath towels, no hand towels. When I asked for more towels I was told they were in the dryer and to come back in 45 mins (they do not bring it to your room). I was at the pool and we needed pool towels I asked and they said they would go get them out of the dryer. I was standing by the gate of the pool and Jen (the young lady working) walked right past me with the towels and put them on the shelf behind the desk so that I had to go back in the lobby and ask for them again. Don’t expect any hooks to hang anything anywhere in the room and don’t expect hangars in the closets. The sheets and pillow had stains on them. If you want to stay somewhere overpriced and have the bare minimum you should book a stay at the Fire Island Beach House.
Aug 06, 2024 · Laura BoothFantastic Beach Getaway at The Fire Island Beach House! We recently stayed at The Fire Island Beach House with a group of 8, ranging in ages 12-40 years old and it exceeded all our expectations. We had a bungalow that was perfect for our group size. The food was outstanding, with a variety of delicious options that catered to all our tastes. The immaculate pool area was a highlight, offering great vibes and a relaxing atmosphere. The beach was absolutely beautiful and just a short walk from our bungalow, making it easy to enjoy the sun and surf whenever we wanted. One of the great features was the availability of bikes to rent right out front, which made it convenient to head into Ocean Beach for ice cream and shopping. There were also several other restaurants in close proximity, giving us plenty of dining options to explore. The location of the hotel is fantastic, just a short 5-minute walk to the ferry, making our arrival and departure a breeze.Overall, it was a wonderful stay, and we highly recommend The Fire Island Beach House for anyone looking for a relaxing beach getaway.
Aug 01, 2024 · Nikki AvanzinoFirst off if I could give FIBH zero stars I would. I would say the waitresses were very accommodating and made sure we were always good on food and drinks. With that being said our experience other than that was terrible. My husband and I went on a little get away after our wedding and based on the website we thought FIBH would be perfect to spend a few days. We checked into our king suite and we were instantly hit with this horrible mildew smell. There was mold all over the ceiling and the ac unit was full of dust and black mold. They definitely haven't serviced those units or cleaned them at all. When we called down to let the staff know they came up checked it out and said we can move to another room. The room next door was also supposed to be a king suite..it was half the size and definitely not worth what we paid. This room ended up being worse. Also had mold on the ceiling and inside the ac unit. We went down to the front desk to talk to them again and they gave us $100 off a night for our $1200 stay. We got scammed out of a bigger king suite to another very small “king suite” that they only called it that because it had a king bed in it. We dealt with the room and went on with our stay. We were out all day on our second day to come back and find out we did not get our room cleaned. For the price we payed this service should have been included. On our way out we were packing and noticed the mattress cover we slept on for 2 night was covered in mold. They covered it with a sheet thats why we didn’t notice it in the beginning. We should have checked after seeing all the mold in the room. Told the front desk about that on our way our and they responded with “oh they are supposed to change that with every stay”..clearly they do not do that. Overall do not let the website fool you..listen to the reviews do not stay here.
Aug 20, 2024 · Jessica ConwayWay overpriced and not at all what we expected. We stayed in the Cottage claiming to sleep eight, we were six with barely enough room. The Cottage’s description is way oversold; full kitchen is a lie, though you get a range, microwave and dorm sized mini fridge. There’s barely anywhere to sit inside, not an ounce of storage for anything. Some of the pots and pans had handles, only some. For sleeping eight we got two towels and had to take out our own garbage and go looking for towels. Window unit air conditioners took the place of the busted central air. The bathrooms and floors were like being at a campground. One glowing shout out goes to Ed, the only one at the front desk that was surly and dying to let us know we were an inconvenience to them by existing. The luggage concerning service and Jess at the desk were also quite great. The waitresses at the pool should teach a class on service. And of course the beach is right there. For the money, I won’t be back. Save your shekels, get together a bigger group and stay in a rental house instead!
