Kearse Park Introduce
Welcome to our in-depth look at Kearse Park, a dedicated green space nestled in the heart of Vauxhall, New Jersey. For residents of Union Township and surrounding areas, understanding what local parks offer is key to enjoying our community to the fullest. This article aims to provide a clear, factual, and engaging overview of Kearse Park, giving you all the details you need to know about this local amenity.
Kearse Park holds historical significance, being named in honor of Robert F. Kearse, a prominent figure in Vauxhall history who served as the first African American Postmaster from 1936 to 1968. While the park bears the name of this esteemed individual, its current state and offerings are important for local users to understand for managing expectations and planning their visits.
Located in the vibrant Vauxhall neighborhood of Union Township, Kearse Park is situated just off the bustling intersection of Valley Street and Springfield Avenue. Its precise address is 1027 Valley St, Vauxhall, NJ 07088, USA. This central location makes it quite accessible for many residents within Vauxhall and other parts of Union Township, often just a short drive or walk away for those living nearby. The park is visible from the main thoroughfare, making it easy to spot. For those driving, there is an adjacent parking lot, which simplifies access to the park's facilities. Its proximity to local landmarks like Manny's can also serve as an easy point of reference for first-time visitors. The direct access from a main road and the availability of parking contribute to its overall accessibility for the local community.
While Kearse Park primarily serves as a single-use facility focused on open space, it does offer a few distinct areas for recreational activity. Based on current observations and local feedback, the services offered are:
- A full-court basketball court at the far end of the park. It currently features a playable surface and rims, though with some signs of rust and a lack of netting. It has also been noted to be used for storage of soccer equipment at times.
- An open field area primarily used as a soccer field. This area provides a large expanse of green space, suitable for informal games or simply enjoying the outdoors.
It is important for local users to be aware of the current condition of these facilities. While the park offers these spaces, some maintenance issues have been noted by community members, particularly concerning the basketball court and the surface of the soccer field.
Despite some reported maintenance challenges, Kearse Park still has certain features and highlights that make it a recognizable part of the Vauxhall landscape:
- Historical Naming: The park's name itself is a significant highlight, honoring Robert F. Kearse, a figure with deep roots in the Vauxhall community. This historical connection provides a unique identity to the space.
- Open Green Space: In a developed area like Vauxhall, having a dedicated open field, even with its current condition, offers a valuable patch of green for casual recreation or simply a breath of fresh air.
- Accessibility: Its prime location off Valley Street and Springfield Avenue, coupled with available parking, makes it relatively easy for locals to reach.
- Community Presence: The park is recognized by locals and, despite its state, is utilized for certain activities, demonstrating its role, however limited, in the community's outdoor life.
Currently, there are no specific promotions or special offers publicly advertised for Kearse Park. As a municipal park, its purpose is to provide public recreational space rather than commercial services. Any programs or community events would typically be organized by the Union Township Recreation Department. We recommend checking the official Union Township website or contacting their Recreation Department for information on any potential community events, youth sports leagues, or programs that might utilize Kearse Park in the future.

Kearse Park Reviews
Kearse Park, named after Robert F Kearse, the first African American Postmaster of Vauxhall who served in that capacity from 1936 to 1968, is a now single use facility in the Vauxhall neighborhood of Union Township, located just off the intersection of Valley Street and Springfield Avenue, just across from Manny's.Sad to say however, the park does a vast disservice to the honor of this great man. There is a full court basketball court at the far end of the park, which sits in an abandoned state with a playable surface and rims, rusting as they are, but no netting, and used as a storage surface for soccer equipment, instead of ball play. According to a couple of locals I spoke to, this has been the case for some time now, and the township apparently has no plans to return it to use anytime soon. (Past incidents perhaps?).The rest of the park is nothing more than a cut out space used as a soccer field. The field however, is not in the best shape, as it is very bumpy and pitty, with vast stretches of nothing more a few clumps of grass sticking out and a lot of dirt. It is surface in bad need of maintenance, and I hope that Union Township does something to help with the conditions here.Mr. Kearse deserves a better honor than this facility.
May 02, 2025 · Burt ShoobsYou can't really call this a park. It's a small field with a parking lot with soccer fields that are just about functional
Oct 01, 2018 · Neil HumeNice small park hidden next to 124 in Vauxhall. Minimal parking space.
