We understand the importance of finding reliable information for your outdoor excursions, and this guide is designed to provide you with all the essential details to make your visit to Stairway To Heaven seamless and enjoyable.
Stairway To Heaven is conveniently located at 443 Vernon Warwick Rd, Vernon Township, NJ 07462, USA. Its prime location in Vernon Township makes it easily accessible for many residents across Northern and Central New Jersey. Getting there is straightforward, but it's always wise to consult your preferred GPS or mapping application before you head out. One crucial tip for navigating your arrival: enabling Google Street View before you set off can be incredibly helpful for visualizing the parking situation and entrance points, saving you time and potential confusion upon arrival.
When it comes to parking, Stairway To Heaven offers a few options. There are two free parking lots that are particularly convenient. One is situated directly in front of the Pinwheel Vista entrance, offering immediate access to the trail. The second free lot is located just a short distance after the first, on the side of the road. However, be aware that if you pull into the larger parking lot that often features a hot dog stand, there is an all-day parking fee of $8.95. It's important to keep these distinctions in mind to avoid unexpected charges. While the free lots are fantastic, they can fill up quickly, especially on weekends, so arriving earlier in the day is often recommended for the best chance of securing a spot without a fee.
For those utilizing public transportation or carpooling, planning your route in advance is advisable. While directly served by public transport might be limited, ride-sharing services could be an option depending on your starting location. Regardless of your chosen method of arrival, the journey to Stairway To Heaven is part of the adventure, leading you to one of New Jersey's most celebrated hiking destinations.
While Stairway To Heaven is primarily a natural hiking area, there are a few key services and amenities available to enhance your visit:
Restrooms: For the convenience of hikers, restrooms are available across the street at the farm center. It's a short walk from the trail entrance and definitely worth utilizing before or after your hike, especially for longer excursions.
Parking Options: As mentioned, both free and paid parking lots are available. This flexibility allows visitors to choose the option that best suits their budget and preference for proximity to the trailhead.
Food Vendors (Seasonal): On occasion, particularly in the larger paid parking lot, a hot dog stand may be present, offering a convenient snack or meal option after your hike. It's important to note that the presence of such vendors can be seasonal or subject to change.
Dog-Friendly Environment: One of the most appreciated services is the dog-friendly nature of the trail. Leashed dogs are welcome, making it an ideal destination for pet owners looking to share their outdoor adventures with their furry companions.
Stairway To Heaven is renowned for several standout features that make it a must-visit for hikers in New Jersey:
Pinwheel Vista: This is undoubtedly the crown jewel of the Stairway To Heaven hike. The views from Pinwheel Vista are consistently described as absolutely fantastic, offering expansive panoramic scenery that makes the climb entirely worthwhile. It's a perfect spot for photography and soaking in the natural beauty of the region.
Varied Trail Difficulty: The hike to Pinwheel Vista is generally considered to be of medium difficulty, with a 1.3-mile round trip covering about 1000 feet of elevation gain. This makes it challenging enough to feel like a significant workout without being overly strenuous for most regular hikers. The initial ascent is steep, but the reward at the top is immense. For those preferring a more leisurely walk, there's also a flatter path across the street, away from the main hill, offering a gentler experience.
No Scrambling Required: Despite the elevation gain and steep sections, the trail to Pinwheel Vista does not involve any technical scrambling, making it accessible to a wider range of hikers and safer for those who might be new to more challenging trails.
Dog-Friendly Trails: A significant highlight for many visitors is the trail's welcoming policy towards dogs. It’s a joy to see so many happy canine companions enjoying the fresh air and exercise alongside their owners.
Well-Maintained Path: Feedback from hikers consistently praises the trail's condition. While challenging, the path is generally well-maintained, contributing to a safer and more enjoyable hiking experience.
As a natural outdoor attraction, Stairway To Heaven does not typically offer traditional promotions or special offers in the way a commercial business might. The main "special offer" for visitors is the opportunity to enjoy the incredible natural beauty and invigorating physical challenge it provides. The availability of free parking at specific lots can be considered a significant benefit, especially when compared to other hiking destinations that may have mandatory parking fees. Always check for current parking information and any local updates before your visit to ensure you are aware of any changes or events that might impact your trip.

Stairway To Heaven Reviews
Before heading to Pinwheel Vista, I highly recommend enabling Google Street View! This location has two free parking lots: one directly in front of the Pinwheel Vista entrance, and another just after it on the side of the road. Be warned: if you pull into the larger parking lot with the hot dog stand, there's an all-day parking fee of $8.95. For restrooms, head across the street to the farm center – it's definitely worth a visit! The hike itself is of medium difficulty, covering a 1.3-mile round trip to Pinwheel Vista with about 1000 feet of elevation gain. There's no scrambling involved, and the trail is happily dog-friendly. Definitely bring a jacket, as it gets quite chilly at the top, even though the views are absolutely fantastic!
May 25, 2025 · Di WuWe started the trail closer to the base of the hill, and it was moderate to hard hike up. Parking was a small free lot next to a larger parking lot that cost $8 to park. The climb was steep and actually slower coming down than up because we didn't want to have any accidents. If you prefer leisure, then follow the trail away from the hill across the street where the path is flat. Our dog slept very well afterwards 😄 great hike.
Apr 19, 2025 · W NAn entrance to the beautiful pathway to the Appalachian Trail . We parked on the side of the street, however on the other side of the trail near the farm you can pay to park in the lot. There is a cross walk and portapotty. September is the perfect time to visit. It’s about a 45 min walk to the trail on a boardwalk and wooded hike. There are definitely black bear. Earlier in the day when there were more people we didn’t really see anything, but in the afternoon after the trail cleared we saw two black bear come out of their den and stare at us. Most of the trail along the boardwalk the brush is cleared, so it’s not buggy. You will encounter lots of sun and shade, I wore long pants and a hat. A beautiful path and enjoyable hike.
Sep 17, 2024 · M TavaExcellent trail, a little challenging but plenty of fun. 70% of this trail is on an incline going up and down, some spot is pretty narrow especially for two way traffic. It's best to start early to avoid the crowd on this busy trail. The incline is mostly rocks, take your time and have proper shoes and hiking stick would definitely help on the way down. Little buggy around the rainy season. Anyhow it's a great trail. There's also an addition to the trail, it's a nature walk around the plains. It's just across the road and start from crossing a farm land. The farmer's market is also nice to check out
May 05, 2025 · David ZhouAn iconic hiking trail that everyone wants to attempt at least once in their life. The trail is not too difficult, slightly higher than moderate. On average, it will take about 60 to 90 minutes to climb up. Of course, there's no rush. Take as many rests as you wish along the way. Nonetheless, you may have to stop frequently to let other people pass you from the other direction. It takes roughly 10 minutes from the Stairway To Heaven trailhead to the base of the mountain. Then roughly an hour to the top of the mountain. Obviously, you'll be climbing a winding stairs of rocks. There are some flat area, but it is mainly rocks. Coming down the mountain is easier than going up, but is much more dangerous. I recommend climbing to the top to Pinwheel Vista. The view from above is worth the climb. As for parking, there are three parking lots next to the trailhead. Come early as there are limited parking spots and is first-come-first-serve. Parking is only $7.50, much cheaper than the $250 towing fee if you think $7.50 is too expensive. Sadly, there is no bathroom. There is a farm/market across the street where you can use the restroom though. All in all, try this hike. Bring your dog or pet the dogs along the way up/down the mountain. Hopefully, you can see the beautiful view from above too!
