God's Acre Introduce
For residents across Connecticut, few places embody the spirit of a community quite like a cherished town green. In New Canaan, that quintessential role is beautifully fulfilled by God's Acre. More than just a park, God's Acre is a historic and emotional centerpiece of the town, renowned for its serene beauty and its pivotal role in some of New Canaan's most beloved traditions. It stands as a testament to communal values and a shared sense of heritage, drawing locals and visitors alike into its peaceful embrace.
Located prominently at 23 Park Street, God's Acre is widely regarded as "perhaps the most beautiful property in town." Its elevated position offers picturesque views, creating an ideal setting for quiet reflection and meditation. While it may not be a conventional recreational park with playgrounds or sports fields, its value lies in its role as a spiritual and communal gathering space. It is notably home to The Congregational Church of New Canaan, which significantly contributes to its tranquil and reverent atmosphere.
God's Acre truly comes alive during the holiday season, transforming into "New Canaan's favorite place to celebrate Christmas." This is where the town gathers for its iconic annual Christmas Caroling event, a cherished tradition that evokes "best childhood memories singing Christmas carols on Christmas Eve with the entire town every year." The sight of the large Christmas Tree adorned with multicolored lights, the sounds of the New Canaan Marching Band, and the warmth of shared hot chocolate in the crisp winter air create an unforgettable experience that defines the festive season for many. Beyond the holidays, its comfortable wooden benches invite relaxation, and its gorgeous setting has even served as a backdrop for weddings, making God's Acre a truly versatile and deeply loved local landmark that perfectly captures the charm and spirit of New Canaan.
God's Acre is centrally and prominently located at 23 Park Street, New Canaan, CT 06840, USA. Its position "on the top of a hill" provides a commanding view of the surrounding downtown area, making it a highly visible and easily identifiable landmark within the town.
Accessibility to God's Acre is exceptionally convenient for both local residents and visitors. Being just a few blocks from the heart of downtown New Canaan, it is easily reachable on foot from numerous shops, restaurants, and other community points of interest. This makes it an ideal destination for those utilizing Metro-North train service from Stamford, other parts of Connecticut, or even New York City, allowing for convenient access without the need for a car once in New Canaan. The elevation of God's Acre, while contributing to its scenic appeal, does mean a slight incline to reach it, but generally, the pathways and surrounding areas are well-maintained for pedestrian access. Its prime location seamlessly integrates it into the fabric of downtown New Canaan, ensuring that this cherished community space is readily available to all.

God's Acre Reviews
God’s Acre is perhaps the most beautiful property in town, the place for a peaceful walk or meditation. It’s the location of my family’s church, The Congregational Church of New Canaan and New Canaan’s favorite place to celebrate Christmas. We enjoy 😉 the large Christmas Tree, the only tree in town to be decorated with multicolored lights. It’s also the location of our annual Christmas song fest where we gather in the cold weather to sing Christmas Carols in the snow ⛄️ while we listen to the sounds of the New Canaan Marching band. We enjoy 😉 each other’s company with a cup of hot chocolate after our caroling. Other times of year we love 💕 relaxing 😎 on the comfortable wooden benches lining the walkways. Perfect place for a wedding, my sister and my parents were married on this gorgeous piece of property. God’s Acre is a fabulous place on the top of a hill next to The New Canaan Train Station and a few blocks from Starbucks. Note: God’s Acre is owned by the Town of New Canaan and is open to all accepting donations to keep the holiday tradition alive.
