Herman Dolgon Playground Introduce
Herman Dolgon Playground, located on Avenue V in Brooklyn, NY 11229, USA, serves as a significant recreational space for local residents. Named in honor of Herman Dolgon, a World War II veteran and community activist known for his efforts in advocating for veteran housing, this park holds a place in the heart of the Sheepshead Bay area. It is a neighborhood park spanning approximately 1.89 acres, offering a range of amenities designed to cater to various age groups and interests.
As a Scenic Spot, Herman Dolgon Playground aims to provide a welcoming and engaging outdoor experience. The park's environment is characterized by its recreational facilities, which include multiple play areas. For sports enthusiasts, the park features basketball courts and handball courts, providing ample space for active play and community sports. These courts are popular among teens and adults, offering opportunities for competitive and casual games.
For younger visitors, Herman Dolgon Playground boasts various playground amenities. These areas are equipped with structures designed for children to climb, slide, and explore. The presence of spray showers is a notable feature, especially during warmer months, offering a refreshing way for children to cool down and enjoy water play. These features contribute to the park's appeal as a family-friendly destination where children can expend energy and engage in imaginative play.
The park also includes public restrooms, which are an essential service for visitors spending extended periods at the playground. While the availability of restrooms is a convenience, some user feedback indicates that their cleanliness can be inconsistent, and water fountains may not always be operational. These are areas where the park maintenance could enhance the overall visitor experience.
In terms of accessibility, Herman Dolgon Playground strives to be inclusive. While specific details on ramps for all play features may vary, the park does incorporate accessible play elements such as ground-level play features and water-based play features. It also includes mobility transfer systems, suggesting an effort to accommodate children with diverse abilities. Tactile multi-sensory play experiences are also available, catering to children with sensory impairments, and sensory-friendly spaces are designed for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders. These features highlight the park's commitment to providing a welcoming environment for all members of the community.
Beyond the recreational facilities, the park's atmosphere is generally that of a local community gathering place. It's a space where families bring their children, friends meet for sports, and individuals can enjoy the outdoors. The surrounding area, Sheepshead Bay, contributes to a neighborhood feel. However, some user reviews mention concerns about cleanliness, particularly in the smaller playground area, which has been noted as a "damping site" where garbage accumulates, leading to unpleasant smells. There have also been reports of child abduction concerns in and around the area mentioned in user feedback, which is a serious point for prospective visitors to consider. While it's important to rely on official crime statistics for a comprehensive understanding of safety, anecdotal reports from users should be acknowledged.
Herman Dolgon Playground is maintained by NYC Parks, the agency responsible for the city's park system. Their official contact phone number is (212) 639-9675 or +1 212-639-9675. For specific inquiries about park services, conditions, or to report issues, contacting the NYC Parks department directly would be the most effective approach.
For those looking to visit, the park is easily accessible within the Brooklyn neighborhood of Sheepshead Bay. Its location on Avenue V makes it a convenient spot for local residents to reach on foot or via public transportation. While the park does not explicitly list goods or services for sale within its premises, its classification as a Scenic Spot within the platform category implies that it offers an experience for enjoyment and recreation, which is its primary "service" to the community. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own refreshments and supplies for their recreational activities.
Promotional information for Herman Dolgon Playground often highlights its role as a key community resource. It's presented as a place for children's play, active recreation, and community gathering. The dedication of the park to Herman Dolgon also serves as a point of historical and civic interest, honoring a local hero who contributed significantly to the community. The park's amenities, such as the basketball and handball courts and the spray showers, are often emphasized to attract families and individuals seeking active outdoor pursuits.
In summary, Herman Dolgon Playground is a multifaceted community park in Brooklyn. It offers a variety of recreational facilities, including playgrounds, basketball courts, handball courts, and spray showers, designed to cater to different age groups and abilities. While it provides essential services like public restrooms, some user feedback points to areas for improvement in maintenance and cleanliness. Visitors should be mindful of the reported concerns regarding cleanliness and, as with any public space, exercise caution and awareness of their surroundings. Despite these concerns, it remains a vital green space and a hub for community activity in the Sheepshead Bay neighborhood, providing valuable opportunities for recreation and relaxation.

Herman Dolgon Playground Reviews
Whoever is in charge of cleaning it needs to work harder to maintain it sometimes you see staff cleaning but the bathrooms and playground area is still always dirty and the water fountains work once in a while
Oct 19, 2024 · Shy-Shy Purple RastaI gave a 3 star rating because although it's spacious with many playground amenities for young children as well as teens and adults, the park only have one toilet, the small playground is a damping site, where people just throw their garbage and the smell, not to mention more than one accusations, they are report of child abduction in and around the area, I definitely will not be taking my children there again.

Feb 22, 2022 · Miguel ReayPlayground itself is okay. But the people smoking right next to baby swings and speaking loudly about rolling a joint does not make it for a place where someone would want to bring their kids.
