ENVIRONMENT:The environment of the Jane Watson Irwin Perennial Garden is meticulously curated to provide a dynamic and visually rich experience. Originally conceived by modernist landscape architect Daniel Urban Kiley in the 1970s, the garden has been transformed and refined under the artistic vision of Lynden B. Miller since 1987. The garden is structured into four distinct themed "rooms," each presenting a unique horticultural palette and aesthetic. This geometric layout, framed by neat yew hedges, provides a strong structural foundation while allowing for an incredible array of creative planting combinations. The diverse plant palette includes a vast assortment of perennials, bulbs, shrubs, and annuals. This careful selection ensures a continuous display of interest throughout the year, with new blooms and foliage emerging with each changing season. From the vibrant hues of summer to the subtle textures of winter, the garden offers something new to admire with every visit. One notable feature is the "Hot Room," characterized by its central armillary and grapevine, showcasing a bold use of reds, oranges, and yellows. Mar 08, 2025 · Krishna SudarshanI was pleasantly surprised by how beautiful the plants are arranged here. When I was here in August it was filled with all kinds of blooming flowers and shrubs, all formally arranged. A rainbow of colors, shapes and textures. This is right next to the conservatory which is a must stop.
