Jared's Dog Park is conveniently located at 700 Peters Ln, Stratford, CT 06614, USA. This address places it squarely within Roosevelt Forest, a significant natural preserve in Stratford, Connecticut. The park's setting within a "wooded dog park in the town forest" creates a picturesque and natural environment that is both aesthetically pleasing and stimulating for dogs.
Accessibility to Jared's Dog Park is primarily for Stratford residents. As stated in reviews, "Technically the forest is limited to residents only," and other sources confirm, "Jared's Dog Park is an off-leash park located within Roosevelt Forest which is accessible to Stratford, CT residents only." While the general public can access Roosevelt Forest for some activities, the dog park itself is specifically designated for Stratford residents. Non-residents may be able to obtain a permit to use Town of Stratford facilities for an annual fee, provided their dog is licensed and vaccinated, making it accessible to a broader audience who are willing to adhere to town regulations. Parking is generally available, as the park is situated within a forest that typically has designated parking areas, allowing for convenient access to the dog park gates. Its location near walking trails further enhances its appeal, allowing dog owners to combine a visit to the off-leash area with a leashed stroll through the forest. This strategic placement within a natural setting, combined with its controlled access, ensures a dedicated and secure environment for local dog owners and their pets.
Jared's Dog Park offers a comprehensive range of services and amenities specifically designed to enhance the experience for dogs and their owners.
Off-Leash Play Areas: The park's core service is providing a secure, fully fenced environment where dogs can safely run and play off-leash. This large play area allows for natural canine behavior and socialization, which is crucial for a dog's well-being and energy release.
Separate Sections for Large and Small Dogs: A thoughtful and much-appreciated service is the provision of "separate sections for large and small dogs." This ensures that smaller, more timid dogs can play safely without being overwhelmed by larger, more boisterous companions, fostering a more comfortable environment for all.
Agility Pieces/Play Structures: The park goes beyond just open space by offering "a few agility pieces," including "ramps, and jumps, and rocks to climb." These structures provide mental and physical stimulation for dogs, allowing them to engage in more structured play and practice agility skills, adding an extra layer of fun to their visit.
Water Drinking Area: For hydration, the park includes a "water drinking area," ensuring that dogs have access to fresh water, especially important during warmer weather. Reviews mention "water (once it gets above freezing)" indicating it's seasonal, but a vital amenity when available.
Doggie Bags and Disposal Areas: Responsible pet ownership is encouraged through the provision of "doggie bags and disposal area." This service helps maintain the cleanliness and hygiene of the park, ensuring a pleasant experience for all visitors and minimizing environmental impact.
Shaded Seating Areas: For human companions, the park features "comfortable benches for humans" and shaded seating areas. These provide a comfortable spot for owners to relax, observe their dogs, and socialize with other dog enthusiasts.
Wooded and Natural Terrain: The park's "wooded" setting with "mulch and dirt ground" provides a natural and stimulating environment for dogs to explore and sniff, mimicking a more natural habitat than open grass fields. This natural landscape encourages inquisitive behavior and sensory exploration for dogs.
Jared's Dog Park stands out with several key features and highlights that make it a premier destination for dog owners in Stratford, CT.
Beautiful Woodland Setting: One of its most distinctive highlights is its location within Roosevelt Forest. Descriptions like "Nice, wooded dog park" and "Beautiful dog park that I’ve seen" emphasize its natural beauty. The park leverages its forest environment, offering a serene, shaded, and stimulating backdrop for dog play, distinguishing it from more open, manicured dog parks.
Fully Fenced and Secure: A crucial feature for dog owners is the park being "completely fenced in." This provides peace of mind, allowing dogs to safely run off-leash without concerns about them wandering off or encountering unexpected hazards. The "double gated entry/exit area for safety" further enhances this security.
Dedicated Areas for All Sizes: The thoughtful inclusion of "separate sections for large and small dogs" is a significant highlight. This design element directly addresses a common concern at dog parks, ensuring that dogs of all sizes and temperaments can enjoy the space safely and comfortably, promoting positive interactions among canines.
Engaging Agility Equipment: The presence of "ramps, and jumps, and rocks to climb" for dogs adds an interactive and stimulating dimension to the park. These agility pieces encourage physical activity and mental engagement, providing more than just an open space for running.
Essential Amenities for Comfort and Convenience: The provision of a "water drinking area and doggie bags and disposal area" demonstrates a commitment to both dog welfare and park cleanliness. These practical amenities ensure that owners can responsibly care for their pets during their visit, making the experience more enjoyable for everyone. Reviews also mention "comfortable benches for humans" and often a supply of "tennis balls and frisbees," adding to the comfort and fun.
Community-Driven Development: The park project "has been underway for years," with efforts from "The Friends of Jared's Dog Park" to "create our forever home." This community involvement and dedication speak to the quality and care put into the park, highlighting it as a truly community-built asset for Stratford residents.
As a public municipal dog park within Roosevelt Forest, Jared's Dog Park typically doesn't offer commercial promotions or discounts in the traditional sense. Its primary "promotion" is its existence as a free, well-maintained amenity for the residents of Stratford, Connecticut.
However, potential "offers" or benefits for locals might come in the form of:
Resident-Only Access: While not a promotion, the fact that access to Roosevelt Forest, and thus the dog park, is generally "limited to residents only" (though non-residents can obtain a permit for a fee) can be seen as an exclusive benefit for Stratford locals. This helps manage crowding and maintains a more local community feel within the park.
Community Events: Keep an eye on announcements from the Town of Stratford's Parks and Recreation Department or "The Friends of Jared's Dog Park" (if they have an active online presence). These groups may organize special events, clean-up days, or informal gatherings at the park, which, while not discounts, offer unique community engagement opportunities for dog owners.
Seasonal Amenities: The availability of water fountains "once it gets above freezing" is a seasonal amenity that enhances the experience. While not a promotion, it's a valuable feature that makes the park more comfortable during warmer months.

Jared's Dog Park Reviews
Nice, wooded dog park in the town forest. Technically the forest is limited to residents only.Mulch and dirt ground. Trash, bags, and water (once it gets above freezing). Separate sections for large and small dogs. The park also has a few agility pieces.Strangely, the park was mostly empty on a Sunday afternoon with nice (albeit chilly) weather
Mar 25, 2025 · Kindred WindBeautiful dog park that I’ve seen. Large play area completely fenced in with ramps, and jumps, and rocks to climb for our best friends. A water drinking area and doggie bags and disposal area. Very nice setup. I’m impressed and glad Stratford has this near the walking trails of Roosevelt Forest.
Aug 22, 2022 · Tango Papa JulietHad a great time hiking with the family at Roosevelt forest. The dog park looked very clean and had Alot of room for the dogs to run around. So far always seen nice well behaved dogs. And there was no garbage on the ground or dog fecesWe ate our lunch at the picnic benches on the pavilion.

Apr 30, 2024 · Orlando ArrayThis is a great (and big) dog park! It's double-gated for off-leash dogs. There are two sections for large (30+lbs) and small dogs, both of which have plenty of benches, bags for waste, tennis balls, a water fountain/bowl and agility structures. It is very well-maintained, and the people/dogs we met were friendly and courteous.Hours are dawn - dusk, and there is a parking lot available for those with town stickers (take Peters Lane). It's also available via hiking the blue Roosevelt Forest trail, if you park elsewhere.
