Nestled in the picturesque town of Fairfield, Connecticut, Lake Mohegan is far more than just a body of water; it's a vibrant recreational hub offering a diverse range of activities for residents and visitors alike. While perhaps most famously known for its refreshing Splash Pad, especially during the warmer months, the broader Lake Mohegan Park encompasses sprawling natural beauty, including extensive hiking trails, a serene lake with a designated swimming area, and plenty of open space for various outdoor pursuits. It's a place where families can bring their children for a fun-filled day, dog owners can let their canine companions explore off-leash on specific trails, and nature lovers can immerse themselves in the tranquility of the Connecticut landscape.
Lake Mohegan Park is managed by the Town of Fairfield's Parks and Recreation Department, ensuring it is well-maintained and provides a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone. The unique combination of a freshwater swimming lake, a dedicated splash pad for children, and expansive dog-friendly trails makes it a truly versatile destination. As one enthusiastic visitor shared, "Always a relaxing though a bit of a challenge walk through the woods experience for us. Please watch out for exposed roots you might stumble into and break an ankle. There are portable toilets near the entrance, and for a lot of dog lovers this is where they go and let the dogs run free and swim. Always a pleasant experience for us to for 45 minute walks around the lake/beach/river outlet." Another local highlighted its appeal for pets, stating, "Great place to walk dogs, especially as they allow you to have the dogs off leash on the trails, as long as you are far away from the parking lot. Beautiful any season and far enough from houses." While some might primarily associate it with the Splash Pad, it's clear Lake Mohegan offers a comprehensive outdoor experience that caters to a wide array of interests.
Lake Mohegan Splash Pad and the wider Lake Mohegan Park are conveniently situated at 960 Morehouse Hwy, Fairfield, CT 06825, USA. This central Fairfield location makes it readily accessible for residents across the town and neighboring communities in Connecticut. The park's proximity to major roadways, such as the Merritt Parkway, offers straightforward driving access, with ample parking available on-site, though fees for beach/swimming area entry may apply during peak season for non-residents or those without a season pass.
The park boasts a wheelchair-accessible entrance and parking lot, demonstrating a commitment to inclusivity. While the extensive hiking trails vary in terrain and some areas might be challenging, the main areas around the lake and splash pad are generally accessible. Portable toilets are located near the entrance, enhancing visitor convenience. Lake Mohegan Park stands out among Connecticut's recreational areas due to several key features:
Multi-Activity Destination: Unlike parks focused solely on one type of recreation, Lake Mohegan seamlessly combines aquatic fun (swimming, splash pad), extensive hiking, and dog recreation, appealing to a broad audience.
Dedicated Splash Pad: The Splash Pad is a significant draw for families with young children, providing a safe and exciting water play experience that offers a welcome respite during hot summer days.
Off-Leash Dog Opportunities: The allowance for off-leash dog walking on designated trails is a major highlight for dog owners, offering their pets a chance to truly run free and socialize in a natural environment.
Natural Beauty: The park's setting around a freshwater lake, complete with cascades along the trails, provides a picturesque backdrop for all activities, making it an aesthetically pleasing place to spend time outdoors.
Well-Maintained Facilities: Visitors consistently praise the park's cleanliness and the upkeep of its amenities, from the restrooms to the picnic areas, contributing to a pleasant experience.
Seasonal Activities: The park adapts to the seasons, offering swimming and splash pad access in summer, and beautiful hiking opportunities year-round, with the landscape changing dramatically and beautifully from spring through fall.
As a public park managed by the Town of Fairfield, Lake Mohegan Park and its Splash Pad operate with a standard fee structure rather than frequent promotions. However, there are significant benefits for Fairfield residents:
Resident vs. Non-Resident Fees: During the summer season (Memorial Day Saturday to Labor Day), access to the swimming area and Splash Pad often requires a fee. Fairfield residents typically pay a lower daily rate ($10.00) or can purchase a season pass for unlimited use, while non-residents incur a higher daily fee ($20.00). Children 2 and under, as well as residents aged 62 and above, often receive free admission.
Free Access to Open Space and Trails: Access to the vast open space areas and hiking trails of Lake Mohegan Park is generally free for everyone, year-round, regardless of residency. This means visitors can enjoy the natural beauty and dog-friendly trails without an entry fee.
Bonfire Pit Reservations: While not a "promotion," the ability to reserve bonfire pits at Lake Mohegan is a special offering. These must be reserved and paid for in advance through the Fairfield Parks & Recreation Department, providing a unique group activity.
For the most current information on fees, passes, and any special programs or events, it is always recommended to check the official Town of Fairfield Parks & Recreation website or contact them directly.

Jan 09, 2018 · KareenWell kept trail of moderate difficulty. Popular with dog owners.Feb 2023 update. The trail has been updated and well maintained over the years. It remains very popular for pet owners.
Feb 20, 2023 · Chris LeeAny amazing place to take your kids BUT the splash pad is completely exposed to the sun and there is literally no shade at all. It could really use some shade especially for the little ones playing there.
Jun 27, 2024 · Alessa LlanesThe trail is pretty easy to navigate, despite inconsistent trail markers. There's also a lot of tree cover, so it doesn't get too hot. Dogs everywhere, it was great! Lots of great spots to sit and have lunch with a beautiful view. Not buggy and not a lot of brush on the trail. Overall a great time!
