Leonard Park

25 Wallace Dr, Mt Kisco, NY 10549, USA

4.0
The playground is really poor. This is the main park in town surrounded by baseball feils a basketball court and tennis courts. The park looks good but no decent bathrooms. The playground was designed by folks that dont have kids. No decent benches just 12 year old things falling apart. No tables. No actual bathrooms. 2 to 5 section is falling apart. New 5+ side is nice but so small and pretty boring. Kids wanted to leave after 15 mins. There is a little path to scoot on. The playground is less than 10 ft from the road. It has so much grass that could be other play features or a splash pad. Overall. Boring, has so much potential. Skip this and go to Kensico dam plaza! - Missy Mist

Leonard Park, as a municipal park, offers a range of services primarily focused on providing recreational facilities and maintaining public green space for the community. While not a nature preserve with extensive interpretive centers, its services cater to active leisure:

  • Athletic Fields & Courts: The park's core offering includes several well-maintained baseball fields, a basketball court, and multiple tennis courts. These facilities are fundamental for organized sports leagues, casual play, and skill development for all ages.
  • Disc Golf Course: A notable and increasingly popular feature is its disc golf course. This 18-hole course provides a unique recreational opportunity, attracting players from the local area and beyond.
  • Children's Playgrounds: The park features a playground area, catering to younger visitors. While feedback suggests improvements are needed (especially for the 2-5 age section), it provides a space for children to play.
  • Walking/Scooting Path: There is a small paved path suitable for walking or scooting, offering a gentle recreational route within the park.
  • Open Green Space: The park provides significant open grassy areas, ideal for picnicking, informal games, or simply relaxing outdoors.
  • Public Access: As a public park, it is freely accessible to all residents and visitors during operating hours, typically from dawn to dusk.

While formal, permanent restroom facilities have been noted as lacking or inadequate, these core services ensure that Leonard Park remains a vital hub for various forms of outdoor recreation and community activity in Mt. Kisco.

Leonard Park, as a central recreational hub in Mt. Kisco, features several highlights that make it a significant local amenity, particularly for sports and active outdoor pursuits:

  • Comprehensive Sports Facilities: The park's major highlight is its collection of athletic fields. With multiple baseball fields, a basketball court, and tennis courts, it serves as the primary venue for youth sports leagues, adult pick-up games, and individual practice sessions in the community. This concentration of facilities makes it a vital resource for sports enthusiasts.
  • Challenging Disc Golf Course: The 18-hole disc golf course is a standout feature, attracting a dedicated following. Players have noted its "long tees" providing a great time and its "elevation was definitely there," offering a challenging and engaging experience with "ropes to help guide you up/down some holes." This makes it a destination for disc golf players in the region.
  • Scenic Views & Elevation: The disc golf review indicates significant elevation changes, suggesting that the park itself might offer some scenic views over the surrounding landscape, providing an aesthetically pleasing backdrop for outdoor activities.
  • Community Focal Point: As "the main park in town," Leonard Park naturally serves as a central gathering place for community events, organized sports, and informal meet-ups, fostering a sense of local connection.
  • Open Green Space: Beyond the structured courts and fields, the presence of "so much grass" provides ample open space for various informal activities, allowing for flexibility in use.

While the playground has received critical feedback, the park's strength lies in its robust offerings for sports and active recreation, particularly the popular disc golf course, cementing its role as a key community asset.

As a public municipal park, Leonard Park does not typically offer commercial "promotions or special offers" in the same way a private business would. Its value is inherent in its free and open access to recreational facilities. However, its operation provides "offers" in terms of community programs and accessibility:

  • Free Access to Sports Facilities: The primary "promotion" is the no-cost access to its baseball fields, basketball court, and tennis courts. While leagues might require registration fees, casual use of these public amenities is generally free, providing invaluable recreational opportunities.
  • Disc Golf Course Access: The challenging 18-hole disc golf course is also freely accessible to the public. Players only need their own discs to enjoy this unique sport, making it a cost-effective outdoor activity.
  • Community Events: While not run by the park itself, local community organizations often host free or low-cost events within the park, such as summer concerts, movie nights, or sports tournaments. Keeping an eye on the Village of Mt. Kisco's community calendar would be the best way to learn about these.
  • Youth Sports Leagues: The park serves as the venue for various youth baseball, basketball, and tennis leagues organized by local sports associations. While these typically involve registration fees, the "offer" is the opportunity for structured athletic development for children.
