Residence Inn Jersey City Introduce
For those of us in New Jersey, especially here in Jersey City, finding the right accommodation for out-of-town guests, a weekend getaway, or even a temporary stay for business can be a crucial decision. Allow us to introduce you to the Residence Inn Jersey City, a well-known name in our vibrant downtown landscape. As a Marriott property, it often comes with certain expectations of comfort and reliability. While it may not be a lavish "destination resort," as some reviews suggest, it serves a very important purpose for many travelers and even locals seeking a convenient base for their adventures. This article aims to provide a clear, factual, and engaging overview of the Residence Inn Jersey City, helping you understand if it’s the right fit for your needs or for your visiting friends and family.
The Residence Inn Jersey City positions itself as a practical and accessible option for those looking to explore not only Jersey City but also the iconic attractions of New York City. Its key strength lies in its strategic location, offering unparalleled access to major transportation hubs and tourist destinations. While customer experiences with service can vary, the core offering of clean rooms and a prime spot remains consistent. Let's delve into the specifics of what this hotel provides for our local community and its visitors.
The Residence Inn Jersey City boasts an undeniably prime location at 80 Christopher Columbus Dr, Jersey City, NJ 07302, USA. This address places it right in the bustling heart of Downtown Jersey City, a mere stone's throw from some of the area's most significant landmarks and transportation arteries. For anyone looking to explore the region, this location is a major draw, as highlighted by multiple customer insights.
One of its most significant advantages is its exceptional proximity to public transportation. The hotel is "super close to the PATH station," which is a critical link for commuters and tourists alike. The PATH (Port Authority Trans-Hudson) train offers quick and direct service to various points in Manhattan, including the World Trade Center and Midtown, making day trips to New York City incredibly convenient. This eliminates the hassle of navigating vehicular traffic or finding expensive parking in NYC.
Furthermore, the Residence Inn Jersey City is ideally situated for those planning a visit to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. It's "super close to the Statue of Liberty ferry," meaning guests can easily walk to the departure point, saving time and simplifying their itinerary. This makes it an excellent choice for families and tourists whose primary goal is to see these historical landmarks.
The surrounding area is also highly walkable, providing easy access to numerous downtown Jersey City attractions, including waterfront promenades, diverse dining options, retail shops, and other local businesses. While an urban setting naturally means there can be ambient city noise, such as "cars constantly honking," as one reviewer noted, this is often an expected trade-off for such a central and convenient location. Overall, the hotel's location is a significant asset, offering tremendous accessibility for exploring both Jersey City and New York City.
As an extended-stay hotel under the Marriott brand, Residence Inn Jersey City is designed to offer a range of services that cater to guests staying for longer durations, though it also accommodates shorter visits. While specific amenities can sometimes be subject to change or availability, typical services at a Residence Inn generally include:
- Suite-Style Accommodations: The hotel primarily offers spacious suites, often featuring separate living and sleeping areas, and fully equipped kitchens or kitchenettes. This is a key offering, allowing guests to prepare their own meals and offering a more home-like experience.
- Complimentary Breakfast: Most Residence Inn properties provide a complimentary hot breakfast buffet, a valuable amenity that can save guests time and money during their stay.
- Fitness Center: A well-equipped fitness center is typically available, allowing guests to maintain their workout routines while traveling.
- Complimentary Wi-Fi: High-speed internet access is usually provided free of charge throughout the hotel, essential for both business and leisure travelers.
- Pet-Friendly Policy: Many Residence Inn locations are pet-friendly, accommodating guests traveling with their furry companions (though fees and restrictions may apply).
- On-Site Laundry Facilities: For extended stays, self-service laundry facilities are often available, adding to the convenience.
- Grocery Delivery Service: Some Residence Inn locations offer a grocery delivery service, where guests can provide a shopping list and have groceries delivered to their suite.
- Business Services: Access to a business center, including printing and faxing capabilities, is generally provided for corporate travelers.
- Meeting Room Space: Limited meeting facilities might be available for small gatherings or business meetings.
- Guest Services: Standard hotel services such as front desk assistance, concierge services (for local information and bookings), and daily housekeeping (though for extended stays, cleaning schedules might be less frequent than daily).
It's worth noting that while core services are consistent, the quality of "service" from staff, as mentioned by a review about "Layla and Yasmin" and management, can be an area where individual guest experiences vary, despite Marriott's brand standards.
The Residence Inn Jersey City, while not a "destination resort," offers several key features and highlights that make it a practical and appealing choice, especially for those prioritizing location and functional amenities:
- Exceptional Location: This is arguably the hotel's strongest feature. As noted by a customer, "The location is great," being "super close to the Statue of Liberty ferry, PATH station, and New York City." This unparalleled access to major transportation hubs and tourist attractions is a significant draw, making it an ideal "jump point for NYC and Statue of Liberty."
- Suite-Style Accommodations: The hotel's focus on extended-stay suites provides more space and amenities than typical hotel rooms. Guests benefit from separate living areas and fully equipped kitchens, offering comfort and convenience, especially for longer visits or families.
- Marriott Brand Affiliation: Being a Marriott property, the Residence Inn Jersey City benefits from the brand's established standards for cleanliness and comfort. As one Titanium member noted, while individual service issues can occur, the overall brand loyalty suggests a general level of quality that guests expect from Marriott. "The rooms are clean," which is a fundamental expectation for any hotel.
- Convenient for Sightseeing: For travelers whose primary purpose is sightseeing in New York City or visiting the Statue of Liberty, the hotel's strategic placement means less time spent commuting and more time enjoying attractions. It's perfectly suited "if it’s just a place to park yourself in at night in between sightseeing."
- Proximity to Downtown Jersey City Amenities: Beyond NYC, guests have easy access to Jersey City's vibrant downtown scene, including a diverse range of restaurants, shops, and waterfront parks, all within walking distance.
- Value for Extended Stays: The extended-stay model, with amenities like full kitchens and complimentary breakfast, can offer significant value for guests planning longer visits, potentially reducing dining expenses.
While a reviewer mentioned that the hotel is "not bad, but nothing inherently outstanding either" and "not a luxury destination," its core strengths in location and practical accommodations are precisely what make it attractive for its intended purpose.
Like most major hotel chains, Residence Inn Jersey City, being part of the Marriott brand, frequently offers various promotions and special packages. These can change seasonally or based on demand, so it's always recommended for locals and visitors to check the official Marriott website directly for the most current offers. However, typical promotions you might find include:
- Advance Purchase Rates: Discounts for booking rooms a certain number of days in advance.
- Marriott Bonvoy Member Rates: Exclusive savings for members of Marriott's loyalty program, Marriott Bonvoy. Members often get additional perks like free Wi-Fi and mobile check-in.
- Extended Stay Deals: Special pricing for guests staying for a certain number of nights (e.g., 5+ nights, 7+ nights), aligning with the Residence Inn's extended-stay model.
- Package Deals: Bundled offers that might include parking, breakfast upgrades, or local attraction tickets, though these are less common for a hotel focused on self-sufficient stays.
- Seasonal Promotions: Discounts tied to specific holidays, seasons, or local events.
- AAA/AARP Discounts: Special rates for members of AAA or AARP.
- Government/Military Rates: Discounted rates for eligible government or military personnel.
To ensure you receive the best available rate or take advantage of current promotions, it's highly advisable to visit the official Marriott website for the Residence Inn Jersey City or call the hotel directly. While the hotel itself might not always advertise general "promotions" in public reviews, their online presence and direct booking channels are where these offers are typically made available. For locals in New Jersey, particularly those in Jersey City, the Residence Inn Jersey City serves a distinct and valuable purpose, making it a highly suitable option for various needs, despite not being a "luxury destination." Its primary suitability stems from its pragmatic offerings and, most critically, its unparalleled location.
Firstly, its strategic placement at 80 Christopher Columbus Drive makes it an ideal choice for hosting out-of-town guests. If friends or family are visiting from afar and wish to explore both Jersey City and New York City, the hotel's "super close" proximity to the PATH station and the Statue of Liberty ferry is an absolute game-changer. This convenience allows visitors to maximize their sightseeing time and minimize travel stress, making their stay with you, the local host, much more enjoyable. It means your guests can easily venture into Manhattan without you needing to play chauffeur, providing everyone with greater flexibility.
Secondly, for locals who might require temporary accommodation—perhaps during a home renovation, a corporate relocation, or even just a short "staycation" to experience downtown Jersey City from a different perspective—the Residence Inn's suite-style rooms with equipped kitchens offer a practical and comfortable solution. This setup provides more space and the ability to prepare meals, which can be a significant advantage over a standard hotel room, especially for extended periods. The "clean rooms" also assure a comfortable base.
While some customer service experiences might vary, as noted in reviews, the fundamental promise of a Marriott-branded property, coupled with its excellent location and functional amenities, ensures a reliable stay. The convenience of being able to walk to waterfront parks, diverse dining options, and other local attractions directly from the hotel's doorstep further enhances its appeal for anyone seeking to immerse themselves in the vibrant energy of downtown Jersey City.
In essence, the Residence Inn Jersey City is not trying to be a five-star resort, but it excels at being a highly functional, well-located, and reliable lodging option. For New Jersey locals, it's a valuable resource for accommodating visitors who want easy access to the region's best attractions, or for personal situations requiring convenient and self-sufficient temporary housing in the heart of our dynamic city. It’s a "jump point" that efficiently serves the needs of its guests, making it a suitable and often smart choice for locals and their network.

Residence Inn Jersey City Reviews
Kind of a mediocre hotel… not bad, but nothing inherently outstanding either. The location is great, the rooms are clean, but the service is really lacking. There’s also cars constantly honking 10 hours a day, not that the hotel can help that, but it is a consideration to take into account. In the end you’re super close to the Statue of Liberty ferry, PATH station, and New York City so it should be fine if it’s just a place to park yourself in at night in between sightseeing. But as for it being some kind of “destination resort”, you’ll be sorely disappointed. It’s a jump point for NYC and Statue of Liberty, not a luxury destination.
May 15, 2025 · Dave GarciaLayla and Yasmin are extremely unprofessional and better suited for roles that are not customer facing. The management team needs to do better at training these girls to uphold Marriott standards.I am a titanium member and would not continue to be loyal to Marriott if this was a consistent experience which it is thankfully not.
Apr 29, 2025 · Kelly NguyenI love Residence Inn Jersey City. It's half a block away from Grove Street PATH station. The front office staff is very attentive to your needs and very amiable. The King bedroom I reserved was wonderful. Loved the view from the high floor. Well equipped quiet beautiful decor. I wish I could live there!! It was reasonably priced compared to what you would pay in NYC across the river for a comparable room. There are great amenities and breakfast is included. In the floor where breakfast is served there is also an outdoor section. The only drawback is the area for the actual main breakfast area is small and the main dishes run out quickly when standing in line so you have to wait for replenishments. I loved my stay and will definitely be coming back. A great value for great rooms, amenities, and location.
Dec 25, 2024 · ELIZABETH BETTY GERENARooms were nice and clean, well equipped. Staff was very friendly and helpful. They took care of everything. I would definetly come to visit again. The only thing, that was below Mariott standards was the Orange Juice and the Apple juice, that were watered down. I was in a hurry and had no time to notify staff, so perhaps it was a malfunction. However this was only a minor problem, the place is great!
May 05, 2025 · Csaba BihariThe hotel's rooms were clean and the staff were friendly. However, parking posed a significant challenge. The hotel lacks its own parking garage, and guests must rely on the nearest public parking garage, subject to availability. Valet parking is available from 6 am to 10 pm, but comes with certain restrictions. The hotel does not have a business center. While breakfast is complimentary, the options are limited. Nearby Marriott hotels offer more extensive breakfast selections. There are many restaurants around this hotel and the path station is right next to the hotel.
