More than just an open green space, this park functions as a vital community hub, offering a diverse range of recreational opportunities, facilities, and a tranquil environment for relaxation and outdoor enjoyment. As a designated "Scenic Spot" within its category, it provides valuable public services and contributes to the quality of life in Bergenfield, embodying a place where recreation and natural beauty converge, making it an essential resource for residents seeking active engagement or peaceful respite.
The environment of Ross Applegate Park is consistently described as "nice, quiet and calm," creating a serene atmosphere that sets it apart. It is a "clean and wonderful environment," indicating a well-maintained space that encourages relaxation and enjoyment. The park skillfully blends active play areas with more contemplative spaces. While it offers robust facilities for sports and children's play, there's an overarching sense of peace, allowing visitors to engage in their chosen activity without feeling overwhelmed by noise or crowds. The presence of trees contributes to this calm ambiance, providing natural beauty and welcome shade, though some areas may remain "muddy for a few days due to the trees blocking the sun" after rain, a minor consideration for visitors to be mindful of. This natural element ensures a connection with nature, even within a suburban setting, enhancing the park's appeal as a retreat from daily stresses.
The services provided by Ross Applegate Park are extensive, encompassing a wide array of recreational amenities that cater to various age groups and interests, functioning as "goods for sale" in the form of public recreational opportunities. A key service is its comprehensive playground, which includes a "climbing wall, with small and big slides." This modern equipment caters to different age groups within the younger demographic, ensuring engaging play for both toddlers and older children. The park also provides swings specifically designed "for little kids and older kids," further demonstrating its commitment to inclusive play. For sports enthusiasts, there is a "basketball court," a popular amenity for casual games and organized play. The park also boasts a "huge yard for football," offering ample open space for various field sports and general recreation, including throwing a frisbee or simply running around. Additionally, the park features "sprinklers," a highly valued service during warmer months, providing a refreshing way for children to cool down and enjoy water play. While one review noted disappointment regarding the sprinklers not being on during a hot day in June 2021, this indicates that the service is intended to be available and is a valued feature when operational. The park also offers practical amenities like a "wooden pergola/canopy with wooden chair and tables to eat," providing a comfortable space for picnics and outdoor gatherings. The park is managed by the Borough of Bergenfield, ensuring its upkeep and accessibility for public use.
The features of Ross Applegate Park are designed to maximize utility and enjoyment for its diverse user base. The playground is a standout feature, with its climbing wall and varied slides offering dynamic play experiences. The distinction between swings for younger and older children highlights thoughtful design. The basketball court serves as a focal point for active recreation, while the large open field caters to informal sports and general leisure. The wooden pergola with seating is a practical and aesthetically pleasing addition, perfect for family outings or simply enjoying a snack outdoors. The presence of sprinklers, when active, is a significant draw during hot weather, making the park a desirable destination for children and families. While a customer noted "No bathroom that I can tell," this is an important detail for potential visitors to be aware of when planning longer stays or visits with young children. Despite this, the overall breadth of facilities ensures that the park offers a rich recreational experience for all ages and interests. The commitment to cleanliness, as highlighted by a reviewer, underscores the park's dedication to providing a pleasant environment for its users.
Promotional information for Ross Applegate Park would effectively highlight its strengths as a versatile and serene community resource. It could be promoted as "Bergenfield's ultimate destination for family fun and peaceful outdoor escapes." Emphasizing its "nice, quiet and calm location" would appeal to those seeking a tranquil environment, while simultaneously showcasing its vibrant play areas. The detailed description of the playground, including the climbing wall, various slides, and swings for all ages, would attract families with children. The inclusion of the basketball court and the "huge yard for football" would appeal to sports enthusiasts. Promoting the wooden pergola and picnic tables would encourage outdoor gatherings and family meals. The park's amenities, such as the sprinklers (with an implicit understanding of operational hours, which could be clarified by calling the provided phone number: (201) 387-4055), are key selling points for summer enjoyment. Acknowledging the potential for muddy conditions after rain, as noted in a review, demonstrates transparency and helps manage visitor expectations, allowing them to plan their visits accordingly. Overall, the promotional message would focus on Ross Applegate Park as a clean, well-equipped, and welcoming "Scenic Spot" that provides valuable recreational services and a wonderful environment for the Bergenfield community to connect with nature and enjoy outdoor activities.

Ross Applegate Park Reviews
It’s a nice, quiet and calm location. Clean and a wonderful environment. It has a nice play ground with the climbing wall, with small and big slides. The park has a basketball court and swings for little kids and older kids. It has a wooden pergola/canopy with wooden chair and tables to eat. No bathroom that I can tell. It has a huge yard for football. It has sprinklers. I rated it a 4 star. I’m Disappointed!! It’s June 29, 2021, in a 90 degree weather and the sprinklers aren’t on.
