As a publicly-owned and managed park by the Township of Hillside and Union County, Rutgers Avenue Park primarily offers its facilities for free public use, rather than commercial promotions or special discounts. Its primary "promotion" is its inherent value as a revitalized, accessible, and enjoyable green space for the community.
However, the value for locals is often enhanced through the various programs and events organized by the Hillside Recreation Department and the Union County Department of Parks and Recreation, which leverage parks like Rutgers Avenue. While specific, regular "offers" directly at Rutgers Avenue Park aren't advertised in the reviews, residents can anticipate:
Free Community Events: Hillside and Union County frequently host free public events in their parks. For example, Union County previously held "Family Fun & Flix" events at Rutgers Avenue Park, offering free movies and activities. These events provide entertainment and engagement without cost. Residents should check the official Hillside Township website or the Union County Parks and Recreation website for current event calendars.
Youth Sports Programs: Given the presence of a soccer field and playground, Rutgers Avenue Park likely serves as a venue for organized youth sports leagues and recreational programs facilitated by the Hillside Recreation Department. These programs often have a registration fee, but they offer structured activities for children and teens.
Seasonal Activities: Depending on the season, the park might host or be near facilities that offer seasonal activities, such as fitness classes, community picnics, or informal gatherings.

Apr 20, 2025 · Usa Girl34Is beautiful and has a playground for children and soccer field too. You can walk around the park. There is parking space too. There a lot of garbage that is around the river. But you can still enjoy the beauty of the park.
Sep 28, 2022 · Nora LazoThe grass needs some love and playing ground some updates, but overall a great place
Apr 24, 2019 · Leslie C.Very much updated and clean
Apr 13, 2025 · STAR PLAYSI grew up in this park! Plenty of memories from camp there in the summer, to the baseball diamond playing kickball (down the other end of the park going towards mill rd) & running down the hill from chancellor avenue before u reach Rutgers Avenue there's a shortcut down a bunch of stairs that all the kids used to take going to the school there... Not much to do for the older kids unless they're practicing their sports (there is a diamond on the rutgers avenue side as well) but for ages 8 & under they'll b occupied for about 20 minutes.
