Scottish Inn Whippany Introduce
For travelers navigating the landscape of New Jersey, particularly within the Morris County area, finding suitable and affordable lodging can be a key consideration. The Scottish Inn Whippany, located on State Route 10, presents itself as an option for those seeking a motel stay. This article aims to provide a factual and objective overview of the Scottish Inn Whippany, based on publicly available information and customer feedback, to help users in the New Jersey region make informed decisions about their accommodation choices.
Motels traditionally offer a distinct type of lodging experience, often characterized by direct access to rooms from parking areas and a focus on essential amenities for shorter stays. The Scottish Inn Whippany falls within this category, aiming to provide fundamental accommodation for travelers passing through or needing a quick overnight stop in the Whippany area. Understanding the nature of such establishments, including their operational style and what to expect from their facilities, is crucial for potential guests.
Customer reviews provide valuable insights into the real-world experiences at any establishment. In the case of the Scottish Inn Whippany, it's important to approach these reviews with careful consideration. Past customer feedback indicates significant challenges with guest experience, including issues with reservation management, the overall cleanliness and maintenance of the property, and the accessibility of staff. For instance, a reviewer described difficulties with a pre-paid reservation not being recognized upon arrival, leading to the unfortunate situation of being told the motel was full after a long drive. Other comments highlight concerns about the general condition of the premises, including scattered paper, general filth, trash and junk outside the building, and a seemingly absent front desk. One reviewer even noted that a supposed front desk was located in an adjacent "boarded up building," leading them to seek alternative accommodation. These types of experiences suggest that potential guests should manage their expectations carefully and consider all available information before booking.
The Scottish Inn Whippany is situated at 1245 NJ-10, Whippany, NJ 07981, USA. This location on State Route 10 is a key aspect of its accessibility for travelers in New Jersey. Route 10 is a significant thoroughfare in Morris County, connecting various towns and providing direct access to major highways.
For individuals traveling by car, the motel's direct frontage on Route 10 makes it relatively easy to locate and access from the road. Its position on a main artery is convenient for those driving through the area or needing a stop close to this particular route. Given its nature as a motel, it is typically expected to offer on-site parking, often directly outside guest rooms, which is a traditional feature of such establishments.
However, customer reviews suggest potential issues with the immediate surroundings and functional accessibility. One review mentioned finding "folks hanging out smoking in the parking lot," which could impact the perceived safety or comfort for some guests. Another noted difficulty in locating the front desk and described an adjacent building (possibly where the front desk was meant to be) as "boarded up." These details indicate that while the address itself is on a major road, the actual experience of arrival and accessing services might deviate from what a traveler typically expects.
For those relying on public transportation, options directly serving motels on major state routes like NJ-10 can be limited. Generally, personal vehicle use is the most practical way to reach and navigate from this type of lodging in suburban New Jersey. Travelers should consider these accessibility factors and the specific details from recent guest experiences when planning their stay.
Based on the nature of a motel and the customer reviews provided, the Scottish Inn Whippany's "services offered" appear to be primarily focused on providing basic overnight accommodation. It's important to approach this section with the understanding that a motel typically provides fundamental lodging rather than extensive amenities.
- Guest Rooms for Overnight Stays: The core service is the provision of guest rooms for short-term stays. Reviews indicate that guests attempted to book and pay for rooms for overnight lodging.
- Payment Processing: The motel processes online payments for room bookings, as one reviewer mentioned "paid online for a room. I was charged."
- Check-in/Check-out (Attempted): While one reviewer experienced issues with their reservation upon arrival and ultimately did not stay, the intention is for the motel to facilitate check-in and check-out procedures for guests. The review indicates an attempt to interact with staff regarding a reservation.
- Basic Room Facilities (Implied): While no specific amenities within the rooms are detailed, a standard motel room would generally include a bed, private bathroom, and possibly a television and air conditioning. However, the reviews do not provide positive confirmation of the quality or presence of these facilities.
It is crucial to note that the provided customer reviews raise serious concerns about the reliability and quality of these services. Specifically, issues with reservations being honored, the physical condition of the property (cleanliness, scattered paper, trash, junk), and the accessibility and helpfulness of the front desk/staff were highlighted. The experience of a "boarded up building" and a lack of clear staff presence suggests that even basic services may not be consistently available or up to expected standards. Prospective guests should consider these direct accounts when evaluating what services they can reliably expect.
Based on the provided customer reviews, identifying positive "features" or "highlights" of the Scottish Inn Whippany is challenging, as the feedback predominantly details significant negative experiences. However, we can objectively state features that are implied or mentioned, even if in a negative context, to provide a factual overview.
- Location on NJ-10: Its address on a major state route, 1245 NJ-10, Whippany, NJ 07981, provides direct road access for travelers passing through the area. This is a purely geographical feature.
- Motel Structure: The property appears to be designed as a traditional motel, allowing for external access to rooms and likely on-site parking, although the quality and safety of this parking are questioned by reviews.
- Price Point (Implied): One reviewer mentioned "for the price," suggesting that the motel aims to offer a budget-friendly option, which could be considered a feature for those prioritizing low cost, though the value proposition is severely undermined by the negative experiences.
- Online Booking Capability (Troubled): The motel does have an online booking system, as a reviewer stated they "paid online for a room." However, this feature is highlighted as problematic due to the reservation not being recognized upon arrival.
- Presence of Staff (Though Problematic): There are staff members at the property, as indicated by the reviewer who called the number and spoke to "the guy" about the front desk. However, the effectiveness and helpfulness of this interaction were severely lacking.
It is important to acknowledge that the overwhelming sentiment from the provided reviews focuses on significant drawbacks, such as:
- Lack of recognized reservations despite online payment.
- Absence or inaccessibility of a functional front desk.
- Concerns about cleanliness, "general filth," "paper scattered on the floor," "trash, junk, bicycles" along the outside.
- Perceived safety issues, with "folks hanging out smoking in the parking lot."
- The presence of a "boarded up building" purported to be the front desk.
- Negative interactions with staff when attempting to resolve issues.
Given these detailed accounts, prospective guests should exercise extreme caution and consider these "features" in light of the severe negative experiences reported.
As a budget motel, the Scottish Inn Whippany is unlikely to offer the kind of structured "promotions" or "special offers" that larger hotel chains might advertise, such as loyalty programs, seasonal packages, or bundled deals. Its primary "offer" is typically implied to be its price point – aiming to provide basic accommodation at a lower cost compared to full-service hotels.
However, based on the provided customer reviews, there are no mentions of any specific promotions or discounts. The reviews focus on fundamental issues with booking and property conditions, rather than any value-added offers.
It is common for budget motels to operate on a "best available rate" model, where the price fluctuates based on demand and availability, rather than through publicized specials. Any "special offers" would likely be in the form of a lower nightly rate itself, which might be advertised on third-party booking websites where the motel lists its availability.
Given the significant negative feedback regarding issues like unrecognized reservations and poor property conditions, any perceived "promotional value" through a lower price is severely undermined if the basic service delivery is compromised. Potential guests would need to weigh the stated price against the reported customer experiences to determine actual value. There is no public data provided to suggest any ongoing or past promotions for this specific establishment beyond a base rate.
For inquiries or to attempt to make a reservation at the Scottish Inn Whippany, the following contact details are provided:
- Address: 1245 NJ-10, Whippany, NJ 07981, USA
- Phone: (973) 539-8383
- Mobile Phone: +1 973-539-8383 (This is the same as the main phone number, provided for clarity and international dialing ease.)
It is important to note that while phone numbers are provided, one customer review specifically mentioned calling "the number for the Scottish in" and being told "the front desk was in the boarded up building." This indicates potential challenges in reaching or receiving effective assistance from staff, even when using the provided contact numbers. Given the strong negative sentiment in the reviews regarding communication and service, prospective guests should be prepared for potential difficulties when attempting to contact the motel or resolve issues. It is advisable to exercise caution and perhaps verify any reservations directly.
Based on the provided customer reviews and publicly available information, the Scottish Inn Whippany, located at 1245 NJ-10, Whippany, NJ 07981, USA, presents significant challenges that make it generally unsuitable for locals and other travelers in New Jersey. The primary reason a local might consider a motel is for a very basic, budget-friendly overnight stay, often due to convenience of location on a main road. However, the experiences reported by real customers severely undermine any potential suitability.
The recurring themes in the reviews—such as reservations not being honored despite online payment, a dysfunctional or absent front desk, and a general lack of cleanliness and upkeep of the property—point to fundamental issues in service delivery and property management. One reviewer described "general filth," "trash, junk, bicycles" along the outside, and "kids playing, paper scattered on the floor" inside, creating an unwelcoming and potentially unsafe environment. The mention of "folks hanging out smoking in the parking lot" further detracts from a sense of security and comfort.
While its location on NJ-10 might offer road visibility, the core function of providing reliable accommodation seems compromised. The inability to check in smoothly or resolve issues, as evidenced by a reviewer being told the motel was full despite having a confirmed reservation, is a critical failure that would cause significant stress and inconvenience, particularly after a long drive. The suggestion that the front desk was in a "boarded up building" speaks volumes about the property's operational status and appearance.
In conclusion, for New Jersey residents seeking a comfortable, reliable, and safe place to stay, the Scottish Inn Whippany, based on the provided customer feedback, appears to fall significantly short of even basic expectations for lodging. While the concept of a budget motel offers a certain type of value, the reported experiences indicate that the risks associated with booking here, including potentially losing money on a reservation and encountering highly unsatisfactory conditions, outweigh any potential cost savings. Therefore, it is strongly advised that locals in New Jersey explore alternative lodging options to ensure a more positive and stress-free travel experience.

Scottish Inn Whippany Reviews
I paid online for a room. I was charged. Got here after a 3hr drive and was told I never reserved a room and that they were full.Don't trust these guys. Absolute con artists.
May 03, 2025 · L. C.I wish I could have scored lower. This was one of the worst places I ever booked. Unfortunately I didn't look at the reviews because I was in a hurry to book and for the price and just one short overnight I mistakenly thought how bad could it be! Well that was a big mistake. I got there and there was no front desk. I walked down the hall and found kids playing, paper scattered on the floor, and general filth. I walked out the other end of the hall and along the outside of the building where I saw trash, junk, bicycles, etc. all along the outside, and folks hanging out smoking in the parking lot. I went to the building up front, a red roof inn, and found it boarded up. I called the number for the Scottish in and the guy told me the front desk was in the boarded up building at which point I said forget it and found another hotel! Unfortunately I am stuck with the bill.Stay far away
Oct 02, 2024 · Mark AndrewsWorst place I’ve ever been to. Super rude. Absolutely disgusting. I’d rather sleep in the trunk of my car.Never ever will I go back.
Apr 26, 2025 · Sean HarrisMain manager has his hands tied because of a boss who is cheap. It doesn't help almost all the people here are making this place worse. Smoking in non smoking rooms. Leaving trash everywhere. If you expect a clean room think again. If you wanna sleep with the lights off think again. Just wanna note that as I'm writing this I had killed a roach just crawling along the floor. Mind everyone I've done the most to fill random holes everywhere. It's infested no doubt. Isn't gonna change don't waste your energy here if you don't have to sleep in your car atleast you don't have to guard your belongings from bringing roach with you. No fridge I had to make shift a little bin with ice. No microwave. I'm on night guard duty to protect my toddler. Thank Jesus I brought my pillows blanket and got set of brand new sheets. It's bad here run far away. It's extreme stress when your used being able to walking across a floor that's not ROACH INFESTED!!!DONT COME HERE YOUR HEART WILL LOSE FAITH IN HUMANITY... I've been here 8 hours this is pain.
Sep 17, 2023 · Nathan GrismerThis was the filthiest hotel room I've ever been in. I always check Google reviews before I secure a hotel room, but this time I was in a hurry and didn't. What a mistake. As soon as I walked in the office to check in, I noticed how dated and dirty things were. After checking in, I went to my room hopeful that it was cleaner than the rest of the building. It was not. The bed looked like it had already been slept in and the sheets were dingy. The carpet was horrifying, not a clean spot to be found. It also smelled like a locker room. I went straight back to the front desk and said I wanted a refund. The manager offered me another room, which I declined, so he said the hotel next door was nicer and sent me over there. Their review will be worse. Avoid this place at all costs!!
