Sonder Battery Park Apartments Financial District Introduce
For New Yorkers and visitors looking for a more independent, home-like experience in the heart of Lower Manhattan, Sonder Battery Park Apartments offers a compelling alternative to traditional hotels. Located at 2 Washington Street in the bustling Financial District, Sonder provides fully furnished apartments designed for comfort, convenience, and extended stays. It's a particularly appealing option for those who appreciate the flexibility of a kitchen and more living space, especially when balancing the excitement of New York City with the desire for a comfortable retreat. As one guest noted, it's a "cheaper option in New York" compared to some large Times Square hotels, and the "kitchen area to also lower eating out costs" is a significant advantage for budget-conscious travelers.
Sonder operates on a unique model that blends the amenities of a hotel with the privacy and space of a residential apartment. This means you won't find a traditional hotel lobby teeming with activity, but rather a streamlined, digital-first approach to guest services, complemented by on-site support when needed. Guests appreciate the ability to "use your phone to schedule housekeeping, update your check-in and check-out times, or request extra items," offering a modern, efficient way to manage your stay. While it may not be a traditional hotel experience, many find the "layout is chopped up" in some units, but the overall impression is that rooms "felt large and plenty of storage."
The property is a notable choice for those who value practicality and location. Its position in the Financial District means easy access to key attractions, public transit, and a vibrant local scene, catering to both leisure and business travelers. The apartments are equipped with essential comforts, ensuring a seamless stay, from "hot water and room was clean on arrival" to "plenty of storage" space. While some aspects, such as "thin walls so heard some ‘weird’ noises" or "pillows slightly uncomfortable and air was very dry," might be part of the urban experience, the overall sentiment is one of value and convenience. Sonder Battery Park Apartments strives to provide a comfortable base from which to explore the dynamic energy of New York City, particularly for those who desire a more authentic and self-sufficient lodging experience.
Sonder Battery Park Apartments Financial District is strategically situated at 2 Washington Street, New York, NY 10004, placing guests in the heart of Lower Manhattan's historic and vibrant Financial District. This prime location offers an excellent balance of accessibility to major attractions, business hubs, and a robust public transportation network.
Getting around the city from Sonder Battery Park Apartments is exceptionally convenient, primarily due to its proximity to numerous subway lines and other transit options:
- Subway: The property is very close to several subway stations, providing easy access to virtually all parts of Manhattan and connecting boroughs:
- Bowling Green (4, 5 trains): A short walk east, offering express service uptown.
- Whitehall Street – South Ferry (R, W trains): Also a quick walk, connecting to Midtown and Brooklyn.
- South Ferry (1 train): Directly adjacent, serving the West Side of Manhattan. As one reviewer noted, the "number 1 subway served us well."
- Rector Street (N, R, W trains): Another nearby option for various connections.
- NYC Ferries: Given its location near Battery Park, guests have easy access to several ferry services, including the Staten Island Ferry (free, iconic views of the Statue of Liberty), NYC Ferry routes (South Brooklyn, Rockaway), and ferries to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. This offers a scenic and efficient way to explore the harbor and beyond.
- Bus: Numerous MTA bus routes operate within the Financial District, providing additional options for local travel and connecting to areas not directly served by subway.
- Walking and Cycling: The immediate area is highly walkable, with pedestrian-friendly streets. The Battery Park City Esplanade is just steps away, perfect for scenic strolls or runs along the waterfront. Citi Bike docking stations are also readily available in the neighborhood.
The central location in the Financial District means guests are "easy to get back to" after a day of exploring. While the area can be busy, the convenience for commuting and sightseeing is a significant advantage. However, as noted in a review, "lot of road noise" can be a factor, which is common for central New York City locations.
Sonder Battery Park Apartments operates on a modern, tech-enabled hospitality model, offering a blend of apartment-style living with key hotel services. The emphasis is on convenience and independence, managed primarily through their digital platform, supplemented by on-site assistance.
- Fully Equipped Kitchens: A major highlight for guests, each apartment comes with a "kitchen area" (including a full-size fridge, microwave, oven, stovetop, dishwasher, and cookware/dishes), allowing for self-catering and "lower eating out costs."
- In-Unit Laundry Facilities: Many units include a washing machine and dryer, a significant convenience for longer stays or families, as noted by a reviewer: "Laundry facilities on our floor were convenient."
- Digital Concierge / Sonder App: Guests manage their stay primarily through the Sonder app, which allows them to "check in. Request amenities. Connect to WiFi. Contact customer support." This offers a seamless and immediate way to get assistance.
- 24/7 Front Desk / On-Site Team: While the traditional lobby experience might be minimal, the property does have a "front desk which is staffed 24/7," and an "on-site team is available" for immediate needs like "ask for more towels and extra amenities available in reception."
- Luggage Storage: The ability to "keep luggage after checkout was helpful" is a valuable service for travelers with early arrivals or late departures.
- Fitness Center: A gym is available for guests to maintain their workout routines.
- Seasonal Outdoor Pool: The property features a "seasonal rooftop pool" with views (open Memorial Day to Labor Day). One reviewer mentioned the "pool closed as off season," so availability depends on the time of year.
- Lounge and Co-working Spaces: Common areas are provided for relaxation, socializing, and productive work, although one reviewer "didn't have time to check out the lounge or media areas."
- Fast, Free WiFi: High-speed internet access is a standard amenity across all apartments.
- Keyless Entry: Streamlined check-in and access via mobile or code.
- Housekeeping (on request): Unlike daily hotel service, housekeeping is typically offered "on request" or less frequently, allowing guests to choose. This means you "could ask for more towels."
- Essential Amenities: Rooms include air conditioning, flat-screen TVs (with Chromecast/HDMI for streaming, no cable), and "complimentary toiletries."
- Golf Simulator: Some properties or specific units might offer unique amenities like a golf simulator.
It's important to note that while "customer service was great" in some regards, the digital-first approach means less face-to-face interaction than a traditional hotel.
- Apartment-Style Living: A key distinguishing feature is the provision of full apartments, often with multiple bedrooms, living areas, and "furnished kitchen," offering more space and flexibility than standard hotel rooms.
- Cost-Effective for Longer Stays: The presence of a kitchen and laundry facilities allows guests to "lower eating out costs" and manage longer visits more economically.
- City Views and Potential Water Views: While not all rooms, some units offer desirable "city view" or even "waterfront from the roof" vistas, especially with an "upsell to pay for the city view."
- Excellent Financial District Location: Situated in a historic and vibrant area, the apartments provide easy access to Wall Street, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, Battery Park, and myriad dining and shopping options.
- Seasonal Rooftop Pool: A significant amenity, the outdoor pool provides a refreshing escape with city views during the warmer months (Memorial Day to Labor Day).
- Modern Amenities: Equipped with essential modern comforts like "fast free WiFi," Chromecast/HDMI for streaming (no cable), air conditioning, and a fitness center.
- Digital Convenience: The Sonder app streamlines check-in, check-out, and amenity requests, putting control directly in the guest's hands.
- On-Site Laundry Facilities: The availability of "laundry facilities on our floor" or in-unit washers/dryers is a major convenience for travelers, especially for extended trips.
- Luggage Storage: The helpful option to "keep luggage after checkout" is a practical benefit for guests.
While some guests noted "thin walls" and "road noise," these are often characteristics of urban living in a dense city like New York. The emphasis remains on the apartment-style living and strategic location.

The primary appeal for locals lies in the apartment-style living. The "furnished kitchen" in every unit provides the invaluable flexibility to cook meals, significantly reducing the cost of dining out in an expensive city and allowing for a more authentic, home-like experience. For families or groups, the "two bedrooms & a separate room for dining & TV" offer much-needed space and privacy, a luxury rarely found in standard hotel rooms. The inclusion of "laundry facilities on our floor" or in-unit washers/dryers is another game-changer, especially for longer stays or those managing active lifestyles.
Its Financial District location is a major plus for locals. With instant access to the "number 1 subway" and numerous other lines, navigating the city for work, entertainment, or family visits is seamless. The proximity to Battery Park, the waterfront, and historic downtown attractions means easy access to leisure activities right outside your door, offering a different pace from the often-overwhelming Midtown.
While the experience is less about traditional hotel services and more about independent living through the Sonder app, the available amenities like a fitness center, lounge, and a "seasonal rooftop pool" add significant value. The ability to "keep luggage after checkout" is also a practical convenience that resonates with busy New Yorkers.
Ultimately, Sonder Battery Park Apartments is a smart choice for locals who prioritize space, convenience, and a more self-sufficient travel style. It offers a "more budget option but still good" quality stay, enabling residents to host guests comfortably, manage temporary living needs, or simply enjoy a unique local getaway that blends the comforts of home with the excitement of New York City life.

Sonder Battery Park Apartments Financial District Reviews
One of the cheaper options in New York (not cheapest but compared to a big Times Square hotel), glad we had the kitchen area to also lower eating out costs. Also glad we paid extra for the city view. Upsell to pay for housekeeping but could ask for more towels and extra amenities available in reception. Easy to get back to and number 1 subway served us well. Pillows slightly uncomfortable and air was very dry. Lot of road noise but that’s just NY. Room felt large and plenty of storage. Able to keep luggage after checkout which was helpful. Water was hot and room was clean on arrival. No lobby area and didn’t have time to check out the lounge or media areas or roof and pool closed as off season. Hotel seemed busy especially with office workers. Thin walls so heard some ‘weird’ noises. Would generally recommend if you’re looking for a more budget option but still good.
Apr 13, 2025 · Gemma WardleMeh! Battery Park: We appreciated the two bedrooms & a separate room for dining & TV. Laundry facilities on our floor were convenient. Customer service was great.Annoyances: No closet in the Master bedroom but one (missing a hanging rod) in the second room. No counter space in bathrooms. Cluttered surfaces everywhere. We asked for a table lamp on a nightstand to be removed so we’d have a place to put things on.We have stayed in a Sonder in NYC before and it was great. I wouldn’t recommend this one. The layout is chopped up. A smart designer could easily make it better!
May 07, 2025 · Franke JamesStayed Sonder in battery park city, near World Trade Center! The unit was modern and everything was new. I wouldnt call it luxury by any means but its still a nice place! Good location close to everything, front lobby was helpful and provided great service! Amenities included gym, roof top pool, etc! I enjoyed my stay here and will come back to Sonder when I return to NYC
May 29, 2025 · Philip KaiReally great location, across the way is a ferry to Jersey, subway stations to explore all of the hidden gems of New York and a bunch of cool speakeasy/bars around the area. I actually love this place and have never had a problem with Sonder so I continuously book with them. I love that I can use their mobile app to easily check in, check out and find some good spots around for essentials, coffee, etc.… However, my only two complaints are that the TV was not hooked up properly, so if you want to relax in your room after a long day, it might not work. We were also greeted by some friendly cockroaches in the bathroom. These aren’t crazy things, but wanted to put it out there for anyone who might stay in the future.
Mar 10, 2025 · AnnaOne of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had. Do not stay here.1. Keypad did not work. After maintenance supposedly changed the batteries, it still did not work. Every time we wanted to enter our room, we needed to wait by the front desk and ask someone to escort us.2. Air conditioning made an absolutely horrible sound, waking us up in the middle of the night. We asked to change rooms but was told it was not an option unless I was willing to accept a downgrade. If I accepted the downgrade, I would not be compensated in any way nor refunded any difference for the downgrade.3. Prior to the entire trip, I wanted to extend the reservation with a different form of payment. I was told I had to make a separate reservation but was guaranteed I would be able to stay in the same room. The day before the start of the 2nd reservation, I received an email that there was an issue with the form of payment. Within a few hours, I updated the payment on both my Sonder profile and Marriott profile. It still showed an issue with payment AND that I was no longer in the same room. I called customer service telling them if there is an issue with the payment, to just cancel the reservation. I was told they were not able to do so. The next morning (the 1st day of the "extension reservation) I went down to the lobby, expecting to just confirm that the payment went through. Instead I was told I needed to vacate the room and that I would be able to check back into a different room after 5pm.4. Throughout each of the above listed issues I would chat and/or call the Customer Service number. Both forms of communication were horrendous. They involved long wait times with ultimately no solutions. Chats went unanswered; phone holding times were up to 30 minutes. The only form of "solution" that was offered was a $100 credit, which was ridiculous given each of the above issues ultimately made the trip a series of unfortunate events and has made me incredibly apprehensive to ever stay at a Sonder location again.
