What a GREAT beach. It is so clean and so quiet. Went on a Sunday and it was not crowded at all. The beach is clean and the water was calm, not deep and great for people who enjoy swimming. The bathrooms were easily accessible. They smell terrible but they weren't too disgusting, as beach bathrooms can get, and there was never a line for the women's while I was there. The boardwalk does offer a little concessions shop with some food options. But there are lawns next to the boardwalk where you can bring your own grill and cook up some meats! People set up their own tents and tables and it is such a fantastic place to have big group or family gatherings.I just wish that this place was easier to get to from the city. It is such a little gem. - Jessica Yang

The environment of Sunken Meadow State Park is exceptionally diverse and well-maintained. Its most celebrated feature is its expansive and "clean" beach, with "calm" and "not deep" water, making it "great for people who enjoy swimming." Beyond the pristine shoreline, the park boasts a scenic boardwalk that stretches for approximately three-quarters of a mile, offering breathtaking views of the Long Island Sound. This boardwalk serves as a central artery for pedestrian activity, leisure, and access to various park amenities. Inland from the beach and boardwalk, the environment transitions into vast grassy lawns and wooded areas. These open spaces are meticulously kept and provide ample room for relaxation and group activities. Reviewers highlight these lawns as "fantastic place to have big group or family gatherings," where people "set up their own tents and tables." The presence of natural trails, both paved and unpaved, adds to the park's environmental diversity, allowing visitors to explore different ecosystems, from the coastal dunes to inland woodlands. The overall atmosphere is described as "quiet" and "not crowded at all" even on a Sunday, contributing to a serene and enjoyable experience. Essential amenities include "easily accessible" bathrooms, which, while sometimes having a "terrible smell," are noted as "not too disgusting, as beach bathrooms can get," and importantly, there was "never a line for the women's while I was there." This indicates a well-managed facility despite typical challenges. A significant service, particularly for those spending a day at the beach, is the "little concessions shop with some food options" available on the boardwalk. This provides convenient access to refreshments and snacks, acting as a direct "good for sale" within the park. Beyond these, the park provides access to numerous recreational activities such as swimming, sunbathing, hiking, and biking on its designated trails. A unique service that sets it apart is the provision of areas where visitors "can bring your own grill and cook up some meats!" This facility for picnicking and grilling is a huge draw for families and groups, allowing for personalized outdoor dining experiences. Parking facilities are extensive, accommodating the large number of visitors, though like all popular state parks, there is a fee for parking.
