The BCMA Remote Control Flying Field, while a specialized recreational facility, offers several crucial "services" that cater specifically to the needs of remote control aircraft enthusiasts. These services go beyond simple open space, providing a structured and supportive environment for the hobby.
Paved Runway: The field boasts a good-sized paved runway. This is a fundamental "service" for RC pilots, providing a smooth and consistent surface for takeoffs and landings, essential for the safe and successful operation of many types of remote control aircraft.
Dedicated Flying Area: The core offering is a specific and designated area for flying RC aircraft. This space is maintained to allow for various maneuvers, even with natural challenges like surrounding trees, which experienced pilots often appreciate as a "good challenge."
Membership Access: Access to the field is a key "service" provided to members. This includes a locked gate and a code for entry, ensuring a secure environment exclusively for the club's registered pilots. This managed access contributes to safety and prevents unauthorized use.
Community and Mentorship: A significant, albeit informal, service is the community itself. Members are described as "very friendly and helpful," offering a supportive environment where experienced flyers can provide guidance and mentorship to new or struggling pilots. This peer-to-peer assistance is invaluable for learning and improving flying skills.
Pilot Certification and Testing Support: The club actively facilitates the necessary steps for legal RC flying. This includes guidance on obtaining the FAA TRUST certification and registering aircraft. Senior members are available to "test you," indicating a structured approach to ensuring pilots meet required safety and proficiency standards before flying unsupervised.
Compliance Guidance (FAA, AMA, NOTAMs): The club provides essential information and support for adhering to aviation regulations. This includes ensuring members have their AMA (Academy of Model Aeronautics) membership and FAA registration, and advising on checking NOTAMs (Notices to Airmen) to avoid grounding due to proximity to Teterboro Airport. This regulatory compliance support is a critical service for safe and legal operation.
Diverse Aircraft Accommodation: While not explicitly listed as a service, the fact that the field can accommodate various types of RC aircraft (planes, helis, multi-rotors, electric, fuel) speaks to its versatility and broad appeal within the RC community.
The BCMA Remote Control Flying Field offers several distinct features and highlights that make it a compelling destination for RC aviation enthusiasts in New Jersey. These attributes, often noted by those who fly there, define its character and appeal.
Paved Runway: A significant highlight is the "good sized paved runway." This provides a smooth, durable, and reliable surface for both takeoffs and landings, which is crucial for the longevity of aircraft and the confidence of pilots. It differentiates it from grass-only fields.
Challenging Flying Environment: As described by a seasoned pilot, the field presents a "good challenge" with trees behind the flying area, bushes and trees on the ends of the runway, and a specific approach from the north requiring a "long left turn." While potentially daunting for beginners, this aspect is a highlight for experienced flyers seeking to refine their skills and navigate more complex flight paths.
Vibrant and Friendly Community: A standout feature is the "very friendly and helpful" community of members. This fosters a supportive atmosphere where newcomers can easily get advice, and experienced pilots can share their passion. The social aspect is a major draw for hobbyists, moving beyond just flying to building connections.
Emphasis on Safety and Compliance: The club's rigorous requirements for FAA TRUST certification and aircraft registration, along with senior member testing, highlight a strong commitment to safety and adherence to aviation regulations. This structured approach provides peace of mind for members and ensures responsible flying practices.
Managed Access for Security: The locked main gate requiring a code ensures that only authorized members can access the field. This security measure helps protect equipment, maintain order, and create a controlled environment free from unauthorized interference, which is crucial for the safety of flying operations.
Strategic Location within Controlled Airspace: Being "under Teterboro" airspace adds a unique dimension. While it means pilots must check for NOTAMs that can ground RC flights, it also places the field within a regulated environment, highlighting the club's integration into the broader aviation landscape and its commitment to safe operation within designated air corridors.
Natural Hazards Adding to Skill Development: The proximity of "bullrushes and water" close to the runway, while a potential hazard for beginners, adds to the challenge for intermediate and advanced pilots, encouraging precision and control in their flying.
As a private, membership-based club for a specialized hobby, the BCMA Remote Control Flying Field does not typically engage in conventional commercial "promotions" or "special offers" in the retail sense. Its value proposition is primarily centered on providing a dedicated, safe, and regulated space for remote control aircraft enthusiasts, along with a supportive community.
However, the club does have a clear membership structure, which could be considered its fundamental "offer." The reviews indicate that joining the club is a prerequisite to fly, and there are specific steps involved. While not a "discount," the benefits of membership itself are the core offering. These include:
Access to the Flying Field: Exclusive use of the paved runway and designated flying area.
Community Support: Being part of a friendly and helpful group of experienced pilots.
Instructional Opportunities: The ability to fly with the assistance of a BCMA Instructor, even if not yet a full member, and guidance from senior members for pilot certification tests.
Safety and Regulatory Compliance Assistance: Help with navigating FAA TRUST certification and aircraft registration requirements.
Prospective members are advised to visit the field during active flying times, particularly on weekends when it is "busy," to inquire about membership directly. This informal "promotion" through direct interaction allows interested individuals to experience the club's atmosphere and speak with officers about the joining process. Details regarding membership dues (e.g., adult dues, initiation fees, youth membership) would be discussed during this inquiry. Any specific recruitment drives or introductory sessions would typically be communicated directly through the club's internal channels or local hobby shops, rather than broad public promotions. The primary "special offer" is the unique opportunity to be part of a dedicated and regulated RC flying community in Teaneck.
For individuals interested in learning more about the BCMA Remote Control Flying Field, its membership requirements, or to inquire about visiting, the primary method of contact is through the club itself. While a direct public phone number to the field may not always be available, communication is typically facilitated through club officials.

BCMA Remote Control Flying field Reviews
Going to update review: Great place to fly RC. As mentioned, there's trees behind the flying area, bushes and trees on the ends of the runway and the approach from the north is a long left turn or you'll snag the trees (ask me how I know). Good challenge, and the sun is against your eyes prior to noon so bring your sunglasses. You MUST be a member to fly at the club. Its busy on weekends and people are very friendly and helpful so just ask around for anyone interested. You are also required to do your FAA TRUST certification and register your aircraft with its number. Speak to a senior member to test you and that's all there is to it. Its under Teterboro and sometimes NOTAMs will ground all RC so its worth checking before going otherwise the gate's closed.
Apr 08, 2025 · John MarchanNot a huge airfield, but has a good sized paved runway. Bullrushes and water are very close, so of your a beginner, I would fly close to the runway area . Dont want to crash out beyond that. Main gate is locked, so you need a code to access the field.
Jul 24, 2024 · Jeffrey RuckIgnore the 5 star rating, even though it might be my opinion when I go there, but am I allowed to bring my rc edf jet without like a license or anything? New to the hobby, just curious if I can just come and fly for fun and leave without license or anything.
Apr 22, 2024 · Christopher HurGood paved runway, but cross winds can be very serious at times. Also, the orientation is towards the southeast. So morning flying is always with the sun in your face.
Jul 25, 2023 · CPMFirst time today, really wonderful experience. I feel lucky to have some place close by to fly. Met really nice club members willing to teach and show me the ropes.
