Butterfly Gardens

18th St. &, 7th Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11215, USA

4.0
Not much to the park or garden, a locked garden area that separates the rest of the space and bench areas. Quiet and sunny spot. Seems to be taken care of by the schools near by. I come here to read and drink coffee and catch some sun. Not a lot of people around so it's nice and 95% clean. There is also a Little Free Library by LittleFreeLibrary.org stand if you need a book to read. The garden area is pretty when in bloom and simply kept and designed. Benches are ample and mostly clean and friendly people reading or care takers with babies or small groups of school kids and teachers are the occupants of the garden. - P. B

Butterfly Gardens Introduce

For New Yorkers, finding a peaceful corner amidst the city's ceaseless energy is a true luxury. Butterfly Gardens, located at the intersection of 18th St. & 7th Ave in Brooklyn's 11215 zip code, offers just such a sanctuary. This isn't a grand, sprawling park, but rather a charming, intimate neighborhood green space that holds a special place for local residents. It's a testament to how even smaller urban plots can be transformed into vibrant havens for both people and wildlife.

This unique park, born from "scraps of land" left over after the construction of the Prospect Expressway, showcases ingenious adaptive reuse. Despite its compact size, it has been thoughtfully designed and meticulously cared for, largely through the dedication of local volunteers. The park is characterized by its quiet atmosphere, ample shaded seating, and of course, its beautiful garden areas specifically cultivated to attract butterflies and other pollinators. It's a place where you can genuinely slow down, take a breath, and reconnect with nature without leaving the borough.

Butterfly Gardens serves as a cherished local asset, offering a tranquil spot for reading, a safe space for school children, and a welcoming environment for those who wish to contribute to its ongoing beauty through volunteering.
