Cortlandt Waterfront Park in Verplanck Introduce
For those of us living in the vibrant landscape of New York, finding a local spot that perfectly blends natural beauty with rich history and community amenities is a true gem. Look no further than Cortlandt Waterfront Park in Verplanck, NY. Nestled along the majestic Hudson River, this expansive park, located at Veteran's Park, 77 Riverview Ave, Verplanck, NY 10596, USA, offers far more than just green space; it's a testament to local preservation efforts and a beloved destination for relaxation, recreation, and a deep connection to the region's past.
The park's story is one of dedicated community effort. What started as the approximately one-acre Steamboat Dock, once threatened by development, has blossomed into nearly 30 acres of public parkland, thanks to the vision and hard work of the Verplanck Waterfront Preservation Committee (VWPC) and the Town of Cortlandt. This foresight has secured unparalleled public access to the Hudson River, a rare commodity between New York City and Albany, where railway lines often impede waterfront enjoyment. This commitment ensures that residents have a beautiful, accessible space to enjoy the river's splendor.
Locals consistently rave about Cortlandt Waterfront Park. One visitor enthusiastically described their discovery of this "out of the way quaint town just below the decommissioned Indian Point nuclear power plant," highlighting the peaceful atmosphere that draws people in. Another reviewer celebrated the park's new features, mentioning a "brand new fully fenced playground installed July 2024. It's very bright and colorful and right on the Hudson River with stunning views. Very peaceful. Kids enjoyed the features." While acknowledging a minor inconvenience regarding nearby restrooms, the overwhelmingly positive sentiment about the park's tranquility and engaging amenities shines through. This park is not just a place; it's an experience, offering a unique blend of historical significance, natural beauty, and modern recreational facilities that truly cater to the local community.

Cortlandt Waterfront Park in Verplanck Reviews
I was exploring new places on the Hudson River for good places to fish when I came up on this out of the way quaint town just below the decommissioned Indian Point nuclear power plant. General George Washington and his troops camped here twice before ferrying his army across the Hudson in pursuit of the main body of British troops under Cornwallis and chasing them south to Yorktown, Virginia, where he surrendered to Washington.
