DoubleTree by Hilton Newark Penn Station Reviews
When booking a room 2 weeks before my stay, I called the hotel directly. I requested an early check-in, as I was attending a wedding in Manhattan at 3:00, and was assured that that would not be a problem. After my 2.5 hour drive, I was hoping to check in at 1:00 in order to quickly freshen up, change clothes, and catch a train into the city. That didn't happen. I had to wash up and change clothes in the restaurant bathroom while lugging my luggage around on a hot day in May. The staff was quite rude, and it took them a while to simply get me a wash cloth and a towel. When I returned at 10:30, it was apparent that the front desk staff were still having issues. I did eventually get into a room but was not given a room key, and the clerk escorted me to the room. After all that, the least the hotel could have done was discount the cost in some way, or cover the parking fee or breakfast. I doubt I'll stay at a Hilton again. The bed was comfortable.
May 18, 2025 · Kevin OldhamA pretty descent place to stay. The front desk was nice, she even let me check in early without extra charge. The breakfast buffet is really good with waiter serves you coffee and drinks. The room on the other hand, doesn't feel like a 4 start hotel. Some 3 start hotel have better room & bathroom than this one. But consider the location, this hotel is worth the price.
Apr 27, 2025 · SHUMAN WI had a two night business trip to NYC and our offices are near the WTC complex. Hotels in the city were all $400 and up, so I decided to stay here for half the price. The PATH train from Newark Penn across the bridge gets you into the Financial District in just under 30 minutes.Having read the Google reviews prior to my trip, I was expecting the hotel to be pretty disappointing. I have to say, I found it to be just fine. The rooms are nothing special and some parts of the hotel could certainly use a refresh. But my stay was comfortable and the people working at the hotel were friendly.I routinely travel with earplugs and an eyeshade and I would recommend having these here if you want to get a solid night of sleep since the area around the hotel is a little noisy as others have commented. Otherwise, if you have reasonable expectations coming in, you ought to be just fine.
May 29, 2025 · Brian HSecurity, Housekeeping, Bistro, Front Desk staff were very attentive and accommodating. The rooms were tidy, modern and what you’d expect. But the paper thin walls make this place not worth it at all. You can hear literally everything in the hallway including the neighbors. It was so bad I even heard my neighbors intrusive thoughts. Ended up leaving, eating the cost and staying at an AirBNB. If you value your sleep and noise control then do not book here
Apr 22, 2025 · RussBooked through Expedia for a long layover at Newark. When arrived, their systems were not working so we could not check-in. We waited 6 hours at the lobby for the system to come back but it never did so we had to cancel the Expedia reservation. This cancellation was not refunded because the property does not answer Expedia's calls - or any calls - so we had to request a charge-back.The front desk agent was rude and brushed us aside after simply telling us that there was nothing they can do for us because the system is down. They did not offer any alternative solutions, they just said that there is nothing they can do and they proceeded with ignoring us and checking other people in.They also do not have an airport shuttle. They want you to call them in advance to request a shuttle but they never pick up the phone so we ended up taking public transit after waiting over an hour.Overall very terrible experience. Lots of red flags. Avoid or you will risk having a bad experience.
