The Enchanted Boardwalk is located at 10 Walnut Hill Road, Bethel, CT 06801, USA. This address places it in a residential area of Bethel, making it a convenient and relatively hidden spot for locals seeking a quiet nature experience. Walnut Hill Road is a local thoroughfare, generally easy to navigate by car within Bethel.
One key aspect of its accessibility is its somewhat "hidden" entrance, as noted by visitors. To find it, one typically pulls into a turnaround area near the address and parks. From there, you head away from the main intersection along the road, where a small sign and pathway will guide you to the start of the boardwalk. This discreet entrance contributes to its charm as a secluded local spot.
Parking is generally on the roadside or in the turnaround area, so visitors should be mindful of local parking regulations and respect private property. The boardwalk itself, while sometimes described as somewhat narrow, is generally believed to accommodate wheelchairs, offering a more accessible natural experience than many traditional hiking trails. There are also designated places along the boardwalk where individuals can pass each other or turn around if needed. The overall ease of the walk makes it suitable for visitors of varying mobility levels, from young children to seniors, providing a gentle outdoor experience.
- Boardwalk Trail: The primary feature is a wooden boardwalk that guides visitors through a marshland, offering a unique elevated perspective of the wetland ecosystem. This structure keeps visitors dry and protects the delicate environment below.
- Gravel Path: Following the boardwalk section, the trail transitions into a gravel path, extending the walk through a more open area characterized by wildflowers.
- Benches for Rest: A few benches are thoughtfully placed along the boardwalk, providing convenient spots for visitors to pause, rest, and enjoy the tranquil surroundings and observe the wildflowers.
- Nature Observation: The boardwalk and gravel path offer opportunities for observing local flora, particularly various wildflowers, and potentially some marshland wildlife like birds or insects. It's a great spot for appreciating the natural beauty of the area.
- Accessibility for Strollers/Wheelchairs: While narrow in parts, the boardwalk is generally considered to be accommodating for strollers and potentially wheelchairs, making it an inclusive option for families and individuals with mobility considerations.
- Quiet Walk/Escape: The main "service" it offers is a short, peaceful, and uncrowded environment for a quick nature walk, providing a serene escape from daily routines.
- Unique Marshland Experience: The boardwalk's passage through a marsh provides a distinctive natural experience, allowing visitors to safely observe and appreciate a wetland ecosystem up close, which is less common in many public parks.
- Abundant Wildflowers: A key highlight for many visitors is the proliferation of wildflowers found both along the boardwalk and the gravel path. This adds vibrant color and beauty to the walk, especially during blooming seasons.
- "Endearing Charm": The overall atmosphere of the Enchanted Boardwalk is consistently described as quaint and charming, offering a unique and pleasant aesthetic that sets it apart from more conventional hiking trails.
- Short and Accessible: Its relatively short length makes it perfect for a quick outing, or for those with limited time or mobility. It's an ideal choice for families with young children or individuals seeking a gentle, easy walk.
- Peaceful and Secluded: Despite its residential location, the boardwalk offers a peaceful and somewhat secluded environment, providing a quiet respite from everyday noise and distractions.
- Informal and Uncrowded: Unlike larger, more popular hiking destinations, the Enchanted Boardwalk tends to be less crowded, allowing for a more personal and undisturbed connection with nature.
- Interesting Destination: The path ends at an electrical substation, providing an unconventional and somewhat intriguing destination point for the walk.
As a public nature trail managed by the town of Bethel, the Enchanted Boardwalk does not offer commercial "promotions" or "special offers." Its primary "offer" is its free and open access to a unique and peaceful natural experience for all residents of Connecticut.
However, visitors can find value through the inherent benefits of a public, accessible outdoor space:
- Free Access: The most significant "special offer" is that access to the Enchanted Boardwalk is completely free of charge, making it an affordable and accessible recreational option for everyone.
- Year-Round Enjoyment: The boardwalk can be enjoyed throughout the year, offering different natural beauty with each season – from vibrant spring growth and summer wildflowers to autumnal colors and a quiet winter landscape.
- Educational Opportunity: For families or individuals interested in local ecology, the marshland environment provides a natural classroom for observing wetland flora and fauna.

Enchanted Boardwalk Reviews
This “hike/walk” was NOT what I was expecting. It was such a hazard to even try to navigate. I feel like Bethel should close this until it’s safer and reflecting the beauty that Bethel has.
Oct 06, 2024 · Samantha G.Cute, short walk with an endearing charm! We stopped by after I found it on Google Maps looking for hikes and it was very quaint. A short boardwalk through a marsh then leads to a gravel path ending at an electrical substation. There are a few benches on the boardwalk and lots of wildflowers all over the gravel path, some along the boardwalk as well. The boardwalk portion was somewhat narrow, though I believe it would accommodate a wheelchair and there are places to pass people and turn around if needed. The entrance is somewhat hidden, you pull in the turnaround and park and head away from the intersection along the road, then you will see a small sign and pathway
Jul 25, 2024 · Colin IkenUnfortunately as shown in the pictures, what used to be a breath taking walk through a grasslands with beautiful flowers has been replaced with a 7 foot wide gravel roadway. The short trail with the boardwalk still exists but most of the actual trail has been cut down for a road to the power station near where the end of the trail would be.
