Eshel Hospitality Center

272 Kingston Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11213, USA

4.0
We went to NYC from central PA for Shabbos. My friend stayed with Shul friends and I stayed at Eshel. It was $165 for the one night which was more than we wanted to spend. The room, however, was large, had two beds and a couch, a desk, small table for eating, the cleanest bathroom I've ever seen in a hotel (I belong to several hotel clubs) and it even had a balcony to walk out over the street. For Shabbos, they set out two large trays of candles and served excellent chicken and baked salmon. At lunch the next day, they provided fresh gefilte fish and there was always coffee and cookies. A policeman was stationed about twenty feet from the door. The receptionist was friendly and aware of candle lighting times. Excellent buy. - Wendy Share

Eshel Hospitality Center Introduce

Introduction / Overview

For those of us in New York City, particularly in Brooklyn's vibrant and diverse Crown Heights neighborhood, finding accommodation that caters to specific needs and offers a truly unique experience can be invaluable. Eshel Hospitality Center, located at 272 Kingston Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11213, USA, stands out as a distinctive lodging option that goes beyond a typical hotel stay. While it might present a mixed bag of reviews, its primary strength lies in its specialized services and strong connection to the local Jewish community, particularly for those observing Shabbos.

Eshel Hospitality Center is not just a place to sleep; it often functions as a community hub, providing a welcoming and supportive environment that caters to religious observances and familial gatherings. One glowing review highlights its exceptional cleanliness, spacious rooms, and thoughtful amenities designed for a comfortable stay, including a "balcony to walk out over the street." Critically, it excels in its provision for Shabbos, offering "two large trays of candles," "excellent chicken and baked salmon" for dinner, and "fresh gefilte fish" for lunch. These specialized services make it an "excellent buy" for guests seeking an accommodating and culturally sensitive lodging experience. While another review mentions challenges with beds and window coverings, the positive aspects, especially for those looking for a specific type of hospitality, are significant and make it a notable establishment in the Brooklyn lodging scene.

Location and Accessibility

Eshel Hospitality Center is centrally located at 272 Kingston Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11213, USA. This address places it directly in the heart of Crown Heights, a neighborhood renowned for its rich cultural tapestry, historic brownstones, and as a significant center for the Chabad-Lubavitch Hasidic Jewish community. This location is particularly convenient for visitors who are connected to or wish to explore this vibrant cultural and religious hub.

Accessibility to Eshel Hospitality Center is quite good, making it easy to reach from various parts of Brooklyn and Manhattan via public transportation. The closest subway stations are on the 3 train line (Kingston Av station), which is just a short walk away. The 2, 4, and 5 train lines are also accessible via connections or a slightly longer walk to nearby stations like Franklin Avenue or Nostrand Avenue. These subway lines provide direct routes to major Manhattan destinations, as well as connections throughout Brooklyn.

For those driving, the location on Kingston Avenue offers relatively straightforward access, though street parking in Crown Heights can be challenging, as is common in many dense New York City neighborhoods. One reviewer noted "no parking on site," which suggests guests should plan for street parking. However, the presence of a "policeman stationed about twenty feet from the door" adds an extra layer of perceived security and comfort for guests, which is a significant highlight in an urban environment. The area is also highly walkable, with local shops, synagogues, and eateries easily accessible on foot, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the neighborhood's unique atmosphere.

Services Offered

Eshel Hospitality Center focuses on providing a comfortable and accommodating stay, with a particular emphasis on services that cater to its clientele, especially those observing Jewish traditions.

  • Spacious and Clean Rooms: Guests consistently highlight the generous size of the rooms, often featuring "two beds and a couch, a desk, small table for eating." The cleanliness is also frequently praised, with one reviewer stating it had "the cleanest bathroom I've ever seen in a hotel."

  • Shabbos Accommodations: A major and distinctive service is the comprehensive provision for Shabbos. This includes setting out "two large trays of candles" for candle lighting times (which the receptionist is "aware of"), and providing full Shabbos meals, such as "excellent chicken and baked salmon" for dinner and "fresh gefilte fish" for lunch the next day.

  • Complimentary Food & Beverages: Beyond the Shabbos meals, the center offers continuous refreshments, with "always coffee and cookies" available, adding to the hospitable atmosphere.

  • Friendly and Knowledgeable Staff: The receptionist is noted for being "friendly and aware of candle lighting times," demonstrating a commitment to personalized service and understanding guest needs.

  • Balcony Access: Some rooms come with the added benefit of a "balcony to walk out over the street," offering a pleasant outdoor space for guests.

  • Enhanced Security Presence: The mention of a "policeman stationed about twenty feet from the door" indicates an elevated level of security, contributing to guest comfort and peace of mind.

  • Basic Room Amenities: While not exhaustively detailed, rooms typically include standard hotel amenities such as beds, a desk, and a private bathroom with necessary toiletries.

Features / Highlights

Eshel Hospitality Center stands out for several key features and highlights that define its unique appeal, particularly for those seeking specific accommodations in Brooklyn:

  • Exceptional Cleanliness: One of the most frequently praised attributes is the hotel's cleanliness. A reviewer emphatically stated it had "the cleanest bathroom I've ever seen in a hotel," which is a significant testament to their hygiene standards.

  • Generous Room Sizes: Unlike many New York City accommodations, rooms at Eshel are described as "large," featuring "two beds and a couch, a desk, small table for eating." This ample space is a major advantage for families or those on extended stays.

  • Specialized Shabbos Services: This is arguably the most distinct highlight. The provision of Shabbos candles, delicious and plentiful Shabbos meals (chicken, baked salmon, gefilte fish), and staff awareness of religious observances make it an ideal choice for observant Jewish travelers. This level of catering is rare and highly valued.

  • Warm and Friendly Staff: The "friendly and kind receptionist" who is "aware of candle lighting times" exemplifies the personalized and attentive service guests can expect, contributing to a welcoming atmosphere.

  • Added Security: The presence of a "policeman stationed about twenty feet from the door" offers a reassuring level of security, enhancing guest peace of mind in an urban setting.

  • Complimentary Food & Beverage: The continuous availability of "coffee and cookies" provides a convenient and welcoming touch throughout the day.

  • Balcony Access (in some rooms): The unexpected bonus of a "balcony to walk out over the street" in certain rooms offers a private outdoor space, a luxury in New York City.

  • Community Integration: Located in the heart of Crown Heights, the center is deeply integrated into the local Jewish community, providing an authentic and convenient base for those visiting the area for religious or communal purposes.

Promotions or Special Offers

As a specialized hospitality center, Eshel Hospitality Center may not engage in widespread commercial promotions or discount codes in the same way a large chain hotel might. Its value proposition often lies in its unique, tailored services, particularly its robust provisions for Shabbos observers.

However, the "promotions" are inherently built into its service model, providing significant value, especially for its target clientele:

  • Included Shabbos Meals: The provision of "excellent chicken and baked salmon" for Shabbos dinner and "fresh gefilte fish" for lunch, along with candles, represents a substantial value-add that would typically incur extra costs at other establishments or require guests to seek out specific kosher eateries. This integrated service is a major "offer."

  • Complimentary Coffee and Cookies: The "always coffee and cookies" amenity, though seemingly small, adds continuous value and convenience throughout the stay without additional charges.

For specific pricing and availability, direct contact with Eshel Hospitality Center is the most reliable method. They may offer varying rates based on the length of stay, room type, or specific dates (e.g., higher rates for Shabbos or Jewish holidays due to included services). While one review noted "It was $165 for the one night which was more than we wanted to spend," the reviewer ultimately deemed it an "Excellent buy" due to the comprehensive services and quality provided. In essence, the special offers are intrinsic to the inclusive experience, particularly for those requiring kosher and Shabbos-friendly accommodations. It is advisable to call them directly to inquire about rates for your specific needs.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals

For us New Yorkers, particularly those in Brooklyn and especially within the Jewish community, Eshel Hospitality Center is a uniquely suitable and highly valuable lodging option. Its suitability for locals, whether for personal use or for hosting out-of-town guests, stems from its specific strengths and integrated community focus.

Foremost, for observant Jewish individuals and families, the center's dedicated Shabbos accommodations, including pre-set candles and kosher meals, are an unparalleled convenience. This eliminates the stress of sourcing and preparing food or finding suitable facilities, making it an ideal choice for visitors attending events in the community or for locals needing a comfortable and supportive environment for Shabbos. The positive feedback on the food ("excellent chicken and baked salmon," "fresh gefilte fish") further underscores its appeal in this regard.

Beyond religious amenities, the general comforts of the center make it appealing. The "large" and "clean" rooms, a rarity in parts of NYC, provide ample space for families or those seeking extra comfort. The friendly and knowledgeable staff, particularly their awareness of local customs like candle lighting times, creates a welcoming and understanding atmosphere that resonates with community members. The added sense of security, highlighted by the presence of a "policeman stationed about twenty feet from the door," also contributes significantly to peace of mind. Its prime location in Crown Heights provides easy access to local synagogues, shops, and cultural sites, deeply integrating guests into the neighborhood. While individual experiences may vary (as with any accommodation), for those seeking a welcoming, clean, and specifically accommodating place, especially for religious observance, Eshel Hospitality Center is an "excellent buy" and a truly suitable choice for locals and their visitors in Brooklyn.
