Went tent camping here in August, front office opens at 3pm so plan accordingly. We went to our sites and set up and came back to the front office at 3pm to check in. Be aware, some sites require a hike up which can be tiring and also an inconvenience especially if you have a lot of baggage to transport ( I believe the sites were 75-78) not completely sure. We stayed at sites 46-50 which is a lot on its own, highly recommend this location for large groups. There was some flooding due to heaving rain so it would be safe to set up tents underneath the trees. My only issue with this state park for camping is the bathrooms/showers! What a nightmare! The closet bathrooms to us had a sewer issue and ended up being closed the entire weekend, the ranger notified us that we can use the lake bathroom across the road which only had ice cold water for the showers! The bathrooms and showers are small, filthy and really need an upgrade. Otherwise I would definitely recommend as a great camping experience - Nafeesa Moti

Fahnestock State Park Introduce

Welcome to Fahnestock State Park, a true gem nestled in the heart of New York's beautiful Hudson Valley. For New Yorkers looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and immerse themselves in the tranquility of nature, Fahnestock State Park offers an unparalleled experience. Spanning over 15,000 acres across Putnam and Dutchess counties, this expansive park is a year-round destination, providing a diverse array of outdoor activities for every interest and skill level. It's a place where you can reconnect with the natural world, breathe in fresh air, and create lasting memories with family and friends, all within a convenient distance from your home in the New York region.

The park was established in 1929 through a generous donation of land by Dr. Ernest Fahnestock, as a memorial to his brother Clarence, who tragically passed away during the post-World War I influenza epidemic while caring for patients. This thoughtful act created a natural preserve that has since grown to become a cherished resource for both local communities and visitors from afar. Over the decades, Fahnestock State Park has evolved into a vital hub for outdoor recreation and environmental education, consistently offering a peaceful retreat and a vibrant playground for adventurers. Its history is deeply rooted in a legacy of care and preservation, making it more than just a park, but a testament to the enduring value of natural spaces.

Fahnestock State Park is strategically located at 1498 NY-301, Carmel Hamlet, NY 10512, USA, making it highly accessible for residents throughout the New York metropolitan area.
