### Location and Accessibility
Federal Hill Property is conveniently located at 264 Union Ave, Bloomingdale, NJ 07403, USA. For those traveling by car, there is a small gravel lot on the side of Union Avenue, large enough for approximately one vehicle. This modest parking area is where your exploration typically begins, marked by a sign that briefly details the site's Revolutionary War history. While public transportation options directly to the site may be limited, its address in Bloomingdale makes it easily accessible by car from various parts of Passaic County and neighboring regions of New Jersey. The location offers a sense of being "off the beaten path" yet remains within easy driving distance for many local residents, providing a convenient escape into nature without requiring extensive travel.
Upon arrival, visitors will notice the unassuming entrance to what is designated as a park on some mapping services. The presence of a small, discreet parking spot underscores the undeveloped nature of the property, encouraging a more intimate and self-guided interaction with the landscape. While there are no grand entrances or visitor centers, the accessibility by road ensures that curious locals can readily discover this unique natural and historical site. It's a place that feels like a local secret, shared among those who appreciate its distinct character and understated appeal.
### Services Offered
Given its designation as a "property" rather than a fully developed park, Federal Hill Property offers a more informal and self-guided experience. As such, visitors should not expect traditional park services or amenities. The primary "services" available are intrinsic to the natural environment itself:
- Undeveloped Natural Landscape: The property provides a raw and untouched natural setting for those seeking an authentic outdoor experience.
- Historical Marker: A sign at the entrance provides information about a Revolutionary War incident, offering a glimpse into the area's historical significance.
- Informal Paths: While not officially marked or maintained, there are well-worn paths, some created by ATV use, that allow for exploration of the terrain.
- Panoramic Views: From the summit, visitors can enjoy extensive 360-degree views of the surrounding areas, including the New York City skyline, a truly rewarding vista.
- Wildlife Observation: The natural setting offers opportunities to observe local wildlife, including deer and turkey, as noted by local inquiries about hunting.
It's crucial for visitors to understand that the absence of formal services means they should come prepared with their own provisions, including water, appropriate footwear for uneven terrain, and a strong sense of personal responsibility for their safety and navigation. This bare-bones approach allows for a deeper immersion into the natural world, free from the distractions of modern conveniences. For those who embrace self-reliance and appreciate a less structured outdoor environment, Federal Hill Property offers a genuine and rewarding experience.
### Features / Highlights
Federal Hill Property, while unconventional, boasts several distinct features that make it a compelling destination for local New Jersey residents:
- Revolutionary War Historical Site: The most prominent historical feature is the marker near the entrance, commemorating an incident involving mutineers and General Washington during the Revolutionary War. This historical connection provides a unique layer of intrigue to the natural surroundings, inviting visitors to reflect on the past that shaped our nation.
- Undeveloped Hiking/Exploration: Unlike typical parks with clearly delineated trails, Federal Hill Property offers an opportunity for "blazing your own trail." While this requires a sense of adventure and careful navigation, it allows for a more personal and exploratory hiking experience. Some well-worn paths exist, often used by ATVs, which can be followed.
- Striking Summit Views: The pinnacle of a visit to Federal Hill Property is undoubtedly the summit. Reaching this point, often via a wide gravel quarry road (when the quarry is not operational), rewards visitors with an "awesome 360-degree view of the surrounding areas, including the NYC skyline." This expansive vista is a significant draw, offering a unique perspective of the New Jersey landscape and beyond.
- Natural Habitat for Wildlife: The property is known to be home to local wildlife, including deer, turkey, and even bear. This makes it an interesting spot for nature observation and offers a chance to experience the region's biodiversity up close.
- Proximity to Tilcon Quarry: The summit area is located on the edge of the massive Tilcon quarry crater, providing a dramatic and somewhat industrial backdrop to the natural landscape. This unique juxtaposition of nature and human impact offers a distinct visual experience.
- "Off-the-Beaten-Path" Charm: For those who prefer less crowded and more rugged outdoor spaces, Federal Hill Property offers an authentic experience. Its lack of extensive development appeals to individuals seeking a genuine connection with raw nature.
These features combine to create an outdoor destination that, while requiring a degree of self-sufficiency, offers a memorable and distinct experience for locals interested in history, nature, and a bit of adventure. It’s a place where you can truly escape the hustle and bustle and immerse yourself in a different kind of natural beauty, right here in New Jersey.
### Promotions or Special Offers
As Federal Hill Property operates as an undeveloped natural area rather than a commercial establishment or a formally managed park with programmed activities, there are typically no ongoing promotions, special offers, or events. Its appeal lies in its inherent natural beauty and historical significance, which are freely accessible to the public. Visitors should consider the "offer" of Federal Hill Property to be the unhindered access to its unique landscape, historical marker, and panoramic views. There are no entrance fees, membership requirements, or seasonal discounts to consider. The experience is one of pure exploration and appreciation of the natural environment, without any commercial incentives. This straightforward approach allows for an authentic and unadulterated interaction with the site, making it an ever-present and always-available natural resource for local New Jersey residents.

Federal Hill Property Reviews
It states on Google Maps that the Federal Hill Property is a park, but there are no trails or any other features that would lead one to believe it's a park. None of the major hiking or climbing sitesex: AllTrails/Peakery, indicate that there are any trails on Federal Hill Property either. There is a tiny gravel lot, large enough for one car, on the side of Union Avenue in Bloomingdale that contains a sign explaining an incident that occurred there during the Revolutionary War. Apparently two mutineers were executed in the area on orders from General Washington.I decided to park in that tiny lot to see if there actually were any trails to explore. After entering the woods, I immediately discovered a worn trail to my right (south). I followed the trail in a few hundred feet, but then I saw two large NO TRESPASSING/VIOLATORS WILL BE PROSECUTED TO THE FULL EXTENT OF THE LAW signs. I don't know if those signs were posted by the Tilcon Quarry which owns a considerable portion of Federal Hill, or if they were posted by the nearest residence. Either way, I was dissuaded from going any further. As I turned back to go to my car, I noticed a large rock ledge up on my left. Not wanting my trip there to be a total waste of time, I decided to go off trail and head up there. In five minutes, I was up on that ledge which overlooks Union Ave., and the large Avalon apartment complex across the street. Not much of a view. So, if you want to try hiking in Federal Hill Property Park, you'll have to blaze your own trail, and you may have to explain to someone why you're there.UPDATE: On 3/23/25, with the goal of getting to Federal Hill's summit, I hiked into the property, this time going left (north) from that small lot. It appears that the NO TRESPASSING signs found south of the lot pertained to a heavy equipment company located a few hundred feet away. There are no officially marked trails in Federal Hill property, but there are a few well-worn paths created by ATVs that you can follow. I did have to bushwhack a bit before getting to the wide gravel quarry road which leads up to the mountain's summit. That summit area: nothing but compressed gravel, rocks and boulders, is located on the edge of the massive Tilcon quarry crater. Awesome 360-degree view of the surrounding areas, including the NYC skyline. Had this not been a Sunday afternoon when the quarry was closed, I may have been spotted and told to leave.
