High Tide Introduce
For New Yorkers seeking a direct and convenient beachside experience without venturing too far from the city, High Tide in Rockaway Beach, NY, offers a practical lodging option. Situated right on Rockaway Beach Boulevard, this hotel positions guests mere steps from the famous Rockaway Boardwalk and its expansive sandy shores. While guest experiences suggest it's a no-frills establishment, High Tide appeals to those prioritizing location and a budget-friendly stay over extensive luxury amenities.
High Tide aims to provide essential accommodations for travelers drawn to the vibrant and evolving atmosphere of Rockaway Beach. The hotel's direct beach proximity is undoubtedly its strongest selling point, offering guests immediate access to swimming, surfing, and boardwalk activities. The neighborhood itself is known for its laid-back beach vibe, surf culture, and burgeoning culinary scene, making High Tide a functional base for exploring all that Rockaway has to offer.
It's important to approach High Tide with realistic expectations, as guest reviews highlight a mixed experience. One customer expressed significant disappointment with a room that did not match its online portrayal, citing stained rugs, peeling wallpaper, non-functional Wi-Fi, and a perception of poor value for money. This review strongly recommended against staying at the establishment. Other feedback, however, offered a more moderate view, describing it as "pretty basic" with a "small fridge" and "no tv," but acknowledging a "good bathroom." Issues like "rubbish blinds" and late music from a downstairs BBQ place were noted, though guests appreciated that earplugs were provided to mitigate noise. A key positive reiterated across reviews is the "Location pretty good, above a very excellent bbq place (voted best in Queens!)."
Despite some critical feedback regarding room conditions and amenities, the consensus leans towards High Tide being an "okay place to stay due to location." This indicates that for many, the unparalleled access to Rockaway Beach, coupled with its basic functionality, outweighs the lack of luxury or certain creature comforts. For New Yorkers eager to soak up the sun, catch some waves, or simply enjoy the unique character of Rockaway Beach without breaking the bank, High Tide positions itself as a pragmatic choice, offering a direct link to the coastal lifestyle of this popular Queens destination.
High Tide is strategically located at 9720 Rockaway Beach Blvd, Rockaway Beach, NY 11693, USA. This address places it directly on Rockaway Beach Boulevard, the main artery of the Rockaway Peninsula, putting guests right in the heart of the action. The hotel's prime location offers immediate and unparalleled access to the expansive Rockaway Beach and its iconic boardwalk, making it an ideal choice for beachgoers and those seeking a coastal experience within New York City.
Rockaway Beach is well-connected to other parts of Queens and Manhattan via New York City's public transportation system. The A train subway line extends directly to the Rockaways, with stations conveniently located along Rockaway Beach Boulevard, often within walking distance or a short bus ride from the hotel. Additionally, numerous MTA bus routes serve the area, providing extensive local connectivity. The express bus services (e.g., QM16, QM17) also offer direct routes to Manhattan, making it feasible for city residents to visit for a day trip or a weekend getaway without a car.
For those driving, Rockaway Beach Boulevard offers access, and street parking may be available in the surrounding areas, though finding a spot can be challenging during peak beach season. The hotel's position above a popular BBQ restaurant (voted best in Queens) further highlights its integration into the vibrant local scene, providing immediate dining and entertainment options right at its doorstep. Its proximity to both the beach and local amenities underscores its convenience for visitors looking to immerse themselves in the Rockaway experience.
Based on guest reviews and the typical nature of a budget-friendly hotel in a beach area, High Tide generally provides a foundational set of services for an overnight stay. While it may not feature extensive luxury amenities, its offerings are geared towards functionality and convenience for beach-focused travelers. Expected services include:
- Guest Rooms: Individual rooms for overnight accommodation.
- Private Bathrooms: Each room is expected to include a private bathroom with a toilet, sink, and shower/tub.
- Bedding & Linens: Basic bed linens and towels are provided for guest use.
- Mini-Fridge: Rooms are typically equipped with a small refrigerator, as noted by a reviewer.
- Wi-Fi Access: While one review mentioned issues with functionality, Wi-Fi is generally listed as an available service for guests.
- Earplugs Provided: A thoughtful amenity specifically mentioned by a reviewer, likely to help mitigate noise from the downstairs establishment.
- Check-in/Check-out Services: Standard front desk operations for guest arrivals and departures.
- Cleaning Service: Basic room cleaning between guest stays, though quality can vary.
- Proximity to Dining: Being located above a popular BBQ restaurant (voted best in Queens) offers convenient dining right on the premises.
It's important for guests to note that services such as in-room televisions, extensive storage (like wardrobes or chests), or luxurious furnishings may not be standard, as suggested by customer feedback. The emphasis is on providing a basic, functional space.
Drawing from customer reviews and the typical characteristics of its location, the key features and highlights of High Tide in Rockaway Beach include:
- Prime Beachfront Proximity: Its most significant highlight is its direct location on Rockaway Beach Boulevard, offering unparalleled, immediate access to the beach and boardwalk.
- Convenient Dining On-Site: Located directly above a highly-rated BBQ restaurant (voted best in Queens), providing immediate and excellent dining options.
- Affordable Price Point: While one review noted it as expensive, others generally imply its pricing is competitive for the area, catering to budget-conscious travelers seeking a beach stay.
- Basic Yet Functional Accommodations: Provides fundamental lodging necessities for those prioritizing location over luxury, including a small fridge and a good bathroom.
- Thoughtful Amenities for Noise: The provision of earplugs is a small but notable highlight, addressing potential noise from the vibrant downstairs venue.
- Lively Neighborhood Atmosphere: Guests are immersed in the unique, laid-back, and energetic surf culture of Rockaway Beach.
It is important to acknowledge that reviews also indicate areas needing improvement, such as room decor (stained rugs, peeling wallpaper), lack of storage, and unreliable Wi-Fi. However, the strong emphasis on location and convenience suggests these are the primary draws for its clientele.
As a hotel described as "basic" and appealing to those seeking "great prices," High Tide may not regularly run complex "promotions" or "special offers" typical of larger hotel chains. Its core appeal often lies in offering competitive rates directly. However, guests seeking value might find opportunities through:
- Competitive Standard Rates: The "great prices" mentioned in reviews indicate that the hotel likely maintains a generally affordable rate structure compared to other lodging options in the popular Rockaway Beach area.
- Online Travel Agency (OTA) Deals: Guests often find varied pricing or occasional exclusive deals when booking through major online travel platforms (e.g., Airbnb, Expedia, Booking.com). It is important to note that one reviewer mentioned a discrepancy between Airbnb portrayal and actual room condition, so guests should exercise caution and review recent photos/feedback.
- Seasonal Pricing Fluctuations: Like most beach-area accommodations, rates will likely vary significantly between peak summer season (when demand is highest) and the off-season. Visiting during the spring, fall, or winter might yield lower prices.
- Direct Booking: While not always a "promotion," contacting the hotel directly by phone might sometimes offer the best available rate or more flexible booking conditions than third-party sites.
Prospective guests are strongly advised to thoroughly compare prices and room details across various booking channels, and to directly inquire with the hotel (via the provided phone number) about the most accurate and current rates for their desired dates. Given past feedback, it's also prudent to clarify room specifics if booking through a third-party platform.

For New Yorkers, especially those from the city looking for a quick and authentic beach escape, High Tide in Rockaway Beach presents a highly suitable, albeit no-frills, lodging option. Its primary allure for locals lies in its unparalleled location and the direct access it provides to Rockaway Beach's vibrant coastal culture. For many New Yorkers, a beach getaway means easy access and a relaxed vibe, both of which High Tide delivers.
The hotel's position directly on Rockaway Beach Boulevard means guests are mere steps from the sand, the boardwalk, and the invigorating ocean waves. This immediate proximity is a huge advantage for those who want to maximize their beach time, whether for swimming, surfing, or simply soaking up the sun. You can roll out of bed and onto the beach, which is a significant draw for city dwellers seeking a convenient seaside retreat without the long travel times often associated with other coastal destinations.
While some reviews indicate that the rooms are "pretty basic" and "could use some updating," the consensus often leans towards it being an "okay place to stay due to location." For budget-conscious New Yorkers, this trade-off is often acceptable. The "great prices" mentioned by guests make it a more accessible option for frequent beach trips or spontaneous weekend getaways compared to more luxurious, and often pricier, Hamptons hotels. The presence of a "very excellent bbq place (voted best in Queens!)" directly below the hotel also adds significant value, providing convenient and delicious dining options right at your doorstep, immersing you in the local culinary scene.
Furthermore, Rockaway Beach itself offers a unique blend of surf culture, diverse dining, and a relaxed atmosphere that is distinctly different from Manhattan or other parts of Queens. High Tide serves as a practical base from which to explore this authentic New York beach town. For locals who understand and appreciate the functional aspect of city living and prioritize prime location and affordability for a beach experience, High Tide remains a suitable and practical choice for enjoying all that Rockaway has to offer, earplugs and all.

High Tide Reviews
Room is not at all what is portrayed on Airbnb. It was also $400 per night which is insane considering what the place looks like. Rug was all stained.. wallpaper coming off the walls. The WiFi didn’t work and we had two kids so that was a big deal. Definitely not worth the 800 I paid for two nights. Shady company.
Nov 16, 2024 · Tiffany SiedermanOkay place to stay.. room had no storage i.e wardrobe or chest..Pretty basic, small fridge, no tv, good bathroom, blinds are rubbish but an eye mask will sort that out.Location pretty good, above a very excellent bbq place ( voted best in queens!). Yes they play music later but nothing a pair of earplugs can’t fix (these were provided!) :)Overall an okay place due to location. But nothing special
Sep 30, 2024 · ShivaniThere area rats around the property and it is adjacent to a low-security mental health facility that has some questionable characters hanging out around the property. The door was manually locked when I arrived and I had to wait almost 2 hours in the rain for someone that lived over 25 miles away to open the door. When I went to take a shower, there was no hot water and there was no hot water for the rest of the stay. When I turned on the heater, some disgusting black stuff was released and flew all over the room and my belongings. The place has some serious drug-den vibes and is located on top of a restaurant that plays live music until late.I asked the management company for a token refund amount to recognize these inconveniences and downright negligence and the property management company refused. Seriously- $25 would have been enough. There is no staff on premises and no one lives with 20 miles of the property to help you.Does this sound like a place you want to stay at?
May 02, 2024 · J FUNGI stayed here at the end of September 2023 for 10 days. The only reason I can even give this 1 star is because the bathroom was in excellent condition (recently updated & clean) and it’s close proximity to the beach. Beyond those two things I would NOT recommend staying here. The first night it took over an hour to get into my room (after the 30 minutes spent lost on the street trying to find the entrance since the signage was small & poorly illuminated & the description never mentioned that they are located above a bbq restaurant). When I finally found the room, the code didn’t work. The concierge gave me a new code which still didn’t work & various directions on how to jiggle the handle & pull the door. Finally they had to send the area manager to unlock it & she had to provide a key because she realized that both codes provided were no good. The window was stuck open without a screen & I had to email for 2 days before she came back out to fix it. The 2nd night I noticed a few roaches near the mini-fridge. After that I saw more in the room on at least 3 other occasions including crawling under the bed on my last night. Finally, beyond the loud music from the bbq restaurant under the room on some nights (the room has several sets of disposable earplugs) their smoker had a huge impact on my room. My clothes and even my face mask smelled like bbq smoke & nearly everyday the room was filled with a smoky haze. This left my eyes dry & burning & seriously aggravated my allergies. Everything I brought including a travel blanket wreaked of the smoky bbq smell when I returned home. I emailed the management agency about these concerns so they could adequately address them, but have yet to receive a response beyond, “we’ll look into it.”
Nov 10, 2023 · Alexandra CorkRoom OK; management terrible. Small but adequate rooms with fun quirky decor; great beach location. Room lock code didn't work, and I spent an hour trying to get the remote property manager to get me in; without access to email, I had no choice but to call the "emergency" number - 4 times - each time assured they'd pass the message on, but nobody got back to me. Absolutely infuriating start to my vacation. The room isn't cheap...for that price you have to take better care with customer service.
