Hotel Richmond Introduce
For individuals seeking an extremely budget-conscious lodging option in New York City, particularly on Staten Island, the Hotel Richmond on Central Avenue presents itself as an economical choice. In a city known for its often-high accommodation costs, establishments like Hotel Richmond aim to provide very basic shelter for travelers on a tight budget. It’s important for prospective guests to align their expectations with the hotel's price point, as it caters to a specific segment of the market where affordability is the primary consideration.
Located in the St. George neighborhood of Staten Island, Hotel Richmond has long been a fixture in the local landscape. While details regarding its exact founding or extensive historical renovations are not widely publicized, its continued operation indicates its role in providing fundamental lodging services. Such establishments often serve a diverse clientele, including those requiring extended stays, individuals seeking temporary housing, or travelers for whom cost-effectiveness is paramount. The hotel's focus appears to be on offering a place to sleep at a minimal expense, rather than providing extensive amenities or a luxurious experience. For New Yorkers looking for a bare-bones option for themselves or visitors, or for those in need of immediate, low-cost accommodation, Hotel Richmond fills a particular niche in the local lodging market.
Hotel Richmond is situated at 71 Central Ave, Staten Island, NY 10301, USA. This address places it within the St. George neighborhood of Staten Island, a location known for its excellent connectivity to Manhattan and other parts of the borough. St. George is the primary civic and transportation hub of Staten Island, making the hotel's location quite convenient for accessing public transit.
Accessibility to Hotel Richmond is a key factor for guests. The hotel is within reasonable proximity to the St. George Ferry Terminal, which offers free 24/7 ferry service to Manhattan's Whitehall Terminal, providing iconic views of the Statue of Liberty and the city skyline. This makes it a practical option for those who prioritize economical travel to and from Manhattan. The St. George Ferry Terminal also serves as a major hub for numerous MTA bus routes and is the terminus for the Staten Island Railway (SIR), ensuring that guests can easily navigate across Staten Island and to other boroughs. For those arriving by car, street parking in the St. George area can be challenging due to its urban nature and density, and guests should inquire directly with the hotel about any potential on-site parking or nearby public parking options. Its central location in St. George means that local shops, eateries, and public services are generally within walking distance, offering a degree of convenience for daily needs.
Hotel Richmond offers a very basic set of services, primarily focused on providing fundamental accommodation for its guests. Based on common offerings for budget hotels of this type, the services generally include:
- Lodging: Providing individual rooms for overnight or potentially longer-term stays.
- Front Desk: Likely has a reception or front desk for check-in and check-out procedures, though hours may vary.
- Basic Utilities: Includes fundamental services such as electricity, heating (via radiator), and potentially limited television channels.
- Private Rooms (with limitations): Rooms are provided, though the inclusion of private bathrooms may vary, with some rooms potentially only offering a sink.
It's important to note that the scope of "services" at a budget hotel like Hotel Richmond is typically minimal, focusing solely on providing a place to sleep. Guests should not expect extensive amenities such as daily housekeeping, complimentary breakfast, in-room telephones, or dedicated guest services beyond the very basics needed for check-in and access to their room.
Based on customer reviews, the Hotel Richmond possesses characteristics that highlight its nature as an extremely budget-conscious lodging option. Prospective guests should consider these features when making their choice:
- Extremely Low Price Point: The most notable "feature" is its very low nightly rate, reportedly around $75 per night, making it one of the most economical options in the New York City area.
- Basic Functionality: It provides fundamental shelter, fulfilling the most basic need for a place to sleep.
- Radiator Heating: Rooms are equipped with radiators for heating, which can sometimes produce significant warmth.
- Limited In-Room Entertainment: Television channels may be limited, suggesting entertainment options are basic.
- Window Secured: At least some windows may be secured with a 2x4, indicating a very practical, no-frills approach to security.
- Shared/Limited Bathroom Facilities: Some rooms may only include a sink, implying that bathroom facilities (toilets and showers) could be shared or located outside the room.
It is crucial for potential guests to understand that these features align with the hotel's budget pricing and reflect a very simple, no-frills accommodation experience. Expectations for luxury, modern amenities, or pristine conditions should not be associated with this establishment based on available public feedback.
Hotel Richmond, as a very budget-oriented lodging establishment, typically does not publicize traditional "promotions" or "special offers" in the same vein as mid-range or luxury hotels. Its inherent "special offer" is its consistently low price point, which serves as its primary appeal to guests seeking the most economical accommodation possible in the New York City area. The affordability itself is the main draw.
However, like many hotels, its rates may fluctuate based on demand, season, and length of stay. Guests looking for the absolute lowest possible price should always compare rates across different booking platforms if available, or inquire directly with the hotel. Sometimes, direct booking might offer a slightly better rate or more flexibility. Given its operational model, there are unlikely to be loyalty programs, seasonal discounts, or package deals as might be found at other establishments. The best "promotion" for Hotel Richmond is simply its accessible, very low nightly rate.
For inquiries or to make a reservation at Hotel Richmond, you can use the following contact details:
Address: 71 Central Ave, Staten Island, NY 10301, USA
Phone: (718) 447-8445
Mobile Phone: +1 718-447-8445
It is recommended to call directly to inquire about room availability, specific room features (e.g., private bathroom access), current rates, and any other questions you may have before booking, especially given the nature of the accommodations as described in public reviews.
Hotel Richmond, while not for every traveler, serves a very specific and essential niche within the New York City lodging market, making it suitable for certain local needs. For New Yorkers or those with family visiting on an extremely tight budget, this hotel offers perhaps one of the most economical options for a place to sleep in the entire city. In a metropolitan area where even basic accommodation can be prohibitively expensive, the Hotel Richmond provides a bare-bones alternative for those whose absolute priority is cost savings above all else.
Its suitability for locals often comes into play when there's an immediate, urgent need for shelter, or when a very low-cost, no-frills base is required for a temporary period. For instance, individuals needing temporary housing, those on a very limited fixed income, or local social service agencies seeking emergency accommodation might find Hotel Richmond a practical choice. Its location in St. George, with excellent access to the free Staten Island Ferry and comprehensive public transport network, means that despite its modest offerings, guests can still access Manhattan and other parts of Staten Island easily and affordably.
It is critical for locals considering this option, or recommending it to others, to have a clear understanding of what a $75-a-night room in NYC entails. This is not a hotel for a comfortable vacation or a relaxing getaway; it is strictly functional lodging for those for whom minimum cost is the overriding factor. For those specific circumstances, where a basic, inexpensive place to sleep is the sole requirement, Hotel Richmond serves a practical purpose within the diverse lodging landscape of New York City.

Hotel Richmond Reviews
Very nasty, dirty, low class. Has dirty rooms. Old fashioned, bed spreads, torn blinds. Floor is dirty and stinks. The rooms should be $15 a night. Bums hang out here, and its disgusting. Please try at your own risk . Its fility .
May 12, 2025 · Kmya RispersHotel or homeless shelter? Could have fooled me. If you pay for the $75 option don't expect much. The radiator puts out way to much heat. Paint is peeling and cracked badly. I ask for a room with a bathroom and all it has is a sink. And do not bank on the TV for entertainment as they have only limited channels. The window is also held shut by a 2x4.
Mar 12, 2025 · Frank FontaineHad some fun times at this hotel 🏨 great memories
Mar 07, 2025 · Christopher VazquezThis place is trash. I only gave it 1 star cuz Google made me so I can write a review. There's a new owner, Manny but he's no better than Paul. Dirty nasty not every room has a bathroom so there's bathrooms n the hallway that are always dirty and nasty. That's where the stud addicts go to get high. If you have children with you definitely DO NOT BRING THEM HERE
Sep 05, 2022 · Leilei CollinsThis is good if you're looking for a 1 night stay it's $80 for 2 people one bed and one bathroom. However I do not recommend staying more than 1 night because of the cleaness and the bugs. It's not infested but you'll see one or two bugs. The water is cold doesn't have hot water. So I suggest showering before you get there unless you absolutely have to shower at the hotel. Cozy bed but don't forget to check the sheets!!
