When planning a trip, especially to a bustling area like Elizabeth, understanding your accommodation options is key. The In Town Motor Lodge caters to a specific type of traveler – one who prioritizes a convenient location and essential amenities over luxury or extensive services. Our aim is to give you a clear and factual picture of what to expect, drawing from publicly available information to help you make an informed decision for your lodging needs in New Jersey. We’ll cover its location, available features, and what past guests have experienced, all designed to assist our local New Jersey audience in navigating their accommodation choices.
The In Town Motor Lodge is strategically located at 405 Morris Ave, Elizabeth, NJ 07208, USA. This address places it in a key part of Elizabeth, offering relatively easy access to various local points of interest and regional transportation networks. Morris Avenue itself is a well-known thoroughfare in Elizabeth, indicating that the motel is situated within an established commercial and residential area.
One of the primary advantages of its location is the proximity to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). For travelers flying into or out of EWR, the In Town Motor Lodge could be a consideration for an overnight stay before or after a flight, potentially avoiding the higher costs often associated with airport hotels. The short driving distance to the airport makes it a practical choice for those with early morning departures or late-night arrivals.
Beyond the airport, the motel's Elizabeth location provides access to major roadways, including routes that connect to other parts of New Jersey and New York City. This is beneficial for individuals who are driving and need convenient access to the region's expansive road network for business or leisure travel. Public transportation options in Elizabeth, such as local bus routes, may also be available near the motel, offering alternatives for getting around the city and to nearby train stations for broader regional access.
Being in Elizabeth, guests are also within reach of local dining establishments, shops, and other services. While the immediate vicinity might vary in terms of pedestrian amenities, the general area of Elizabeth offers diverse options for everyday needs. The central location on Morris Avenue implies that guests can easily navigate to different parts of the city for their activities or errands during their stay. Understanding these aspects of its location and accessibility can help travelers determine if the In Town Motor Lodge aligns with their specific itinerary and transportation preferences.
Based on the provided information and common motel offerings, the In Town Motor Lodge focuses on providing fundamental services for a basic stay. It’s important to manage expectations, as this is a motel designed for practical, often short-term, lodging rather than a full-service hotel experience.
- Room Accommodation: The primary service is providing a private room for overnight or short-term stays. These rooms are equipped with basic furnishings for sleeping and personal use.
- Mini-Fridge in Rooms: A significant amenity highlighted by a past guest is the presence of a mini-fridge in the rooms. This allows guests to store beverages or small food items, which can be particularly convenient for travelers on a budget or those preferring to have snacks on hand.
- Microwave in Rooms: Another useful in-room feature mentioned is a microwave. This provides the capability to heat up meals or prepare simple snacks, adding a layer of convenience for guests who wish to dine in their room.
- Air Conditioning: Rooms are equipped with air conditioning units. While the effectiveness may vary as noted in a review, the provision of air conditioning is a standard feature to ensure comfort, especially during warmer months in New Jersey.
- Refundable Card/Remote Fee: Upon check-in, the motel requires a $10 refundable fee for the room card and remote. This is a common practice at some establishments to ensure the return of these items.
- Parking: While not explicitly stated, motor lodges typically offer on-site parking for guests, aligning with their design for travelers arriving by car. This is an essential "service" for a motel in this location.
It is important for potential guests to understand that services beyond these basic provisions, such as daily housekeeping to a hotel standard, extensive dining options, or concierge services, are not typically part of a motel's offering, especially at this price point. The focus is on providing a functional place to sleep and store personal belongings.
The In Town Motor Lodge, while a no-frills option, does offer specific features that can be considered highlights for guests seeking economical and functional accommodation. Based on common motel characteristics and customer feedback, these include:
- Budget-Friendly Pricing: One of the primary advantages of this type of accommodation is its affordability. For travelers on a tight budget, the In Town Motor Lodge offers a lower-cost alternative compared to larger hotels in the area, which can be a significant highlight for those prioritizing economy.
- In-Room Mini-Fridge and Microwave: As noted by a customer, the presence of a mini-fridge and a microwave in the rooms is a definite plus. These amenities allow guests to store cold drinks and snacks, and to heat up food, offering a level of self-sufficiency that can be very convenient and cost-saving, especially for extended stays or for those wishing to avoid eating out for every meal.
- Convenient Location: Its address on Morris Avenue in Elizabeth provides straightforward access to local points of interest and proximity to Newark Liberty International Airport. For travelers flying in or out of EWR, or those needing to access major roadways, the location is a practical highlight.
- Place to Sleep: As explicitly stated in a review, it serves its fundamental purpose as "a place to sleep but that's it." For travelers whose main requirement is a bed for the night after a long day of travel or activities, this functional aspect is a key feature.
- Air Conditioning: While performance may vary, the inclusion of air conditioning units in the rooms is a necessary feature for comfort, especially during New Jersey's warmer months, allowing guests to control their room temperature.
It is important to acknowledge that feedback regarding cleanliness and general condition has been significantly negative. This indicates that while the basic amenities are present, the execution and maintenance of these features and the overall environment might not meet all travelers' expectations. The "highlights" here are truly in the context of a very budget-conscious stay where basic functionality is the primary goal.
As a motel, the In Town Motor Lodge does not typically publicize traditional "promotions" or "special offers" in the same way larger hotel chains might. Its business model usually revolves around providing consistently low rates for basic, short-term accommodation. Therefore, specific promotional deals are unlikely to be a recurring feature.
However, guests might find that their rates naturally fluctuate based on demand, seasonality, or booking platforms. For example:
- Variable Pricing: Like most lodging establishments, prices can vary. Booking further in advance or during off-peak times might result in slightly lower rates. Similarly, last-minute bookings if the motel has availability might also be competitive.
- Online Travel Agencies (OTAs): While the motel itself may not advertise specific deals, third-party online travel agencies (like Booking.com, Expedia, etc.) sometimes offer their own promotions or package deals that could include stays at properties like the In Town Motor Lodge. It is always advisable to check multiple booking sites when searching for the best available rate.
- Direct Booking Benefits: Some independent motels might offer a slightly better rate or more flexibility if you book directly by phone, as it saves them commission fees. While not a "promotion," it can sometimes lead to a better deal than through an OTA. It is worth calling the motel directly to inquire about their best available rate.
Given the nature of the establishment, potential guests should focus on finding the best available rate for their desired dates rather than expecting ongoing promotional campaigns. The most significant "offer" is often the competitive price point it maintains relative to more amenity-rich hotels in the Elizabeth area.
For direct inquiries regarding availability, rates, or any specific concerns about your stay at the In Town Motor Lodge, you can reach them using the following contact details:
- Address: 405 Morris Ave, Elizabeth, NJ 07208, USA
- Phone: (908) 289-8585
- Mobile Phone: +1 908-289-8585
It is always recommended to contact the motel directly for the most accurate and up-to-date information, especially when making reservations or discussing specific needs for your stay.
For locals in New Jersey, particularly those in or around Elizabeth, the In Town Motor Lodge might be considered suitable under very specific circumstances, primarily revolving around its affordability and functional purpose. It is essential to approach this lodging option with realistic expectations, understanding its position as a highly budget-conscious choice.
The primary suitability for locals, or those traveling through the area, lies in its capacity to serve as a quick, no-frills stopover. If you find yourself in Elizabeth needing a place to sleep for just one night, perhaps due to an unexpected travel delay, a very early morning flight out of Newark Liberty International Airport, or a late arrival, and your budget is extremely tight, the In Town Motor Lodge offers a bed. The presence of a mini-fridge and microwave in the rooms can be a small convenience, allowing for simple self-catering and avoiding additional dining expenses, which aligns with a budget-first approach.
Furthermore, its location on Morris Avenue provides straightforward access to major local roads and is relatively close to the airport. This can be beneficial for those who prioritize convenience of location above all else for a very short stay. For instance, if you are a local facing a very early flight and live a distance from the airport, an overnight stay here could reduce travel stress, provided you are prepared for the basic nature of the accommodations.
However, it is critical to acknowledge the significant negative feedback regarding cleanliness and maintenance. Reviews explicitly mention issues such as dirty rooms, un-swept floors, unclean bathtubs, and the presence of insects. These are serious concerns that prospective guests, particularly locals who might have other options, must weigh heavily. One reviewer's experience of choosing to sleep in their car rather than the room underscores the severity of these issues.
Therefore, while the In Town Motor Lodge offers an extremely budget-friendly option and a place to sleep, its suitability is strictly limited to individuals who absolutely prioritize cost above comfort, cleanliness, and overall guest experience. It is not recommended for family stays, leisure trips where comfort is expected, or for anyone sensitive to the issues highlighted in customer reviews. For a local, it might be a last-resort option for a very brief, functional stopover, rather than a recommended stay.

In Town Motor Lodge Reviews
If I could give this place a negative 10 I would. I had no choice but to stay in this hotel. First when checking in they hold a $10 refundable fee for the room card and remote. Then you get into the room and it is absolutely disgusting. The room is just dusty and dirty. The floor was never swept or mopped because my socks were black. The bathtub was never cleaned because i had to clorox wipe it. Multiple roaches just in there chilling with you in the bathroom and the sleeping area. I killed 5 in the 26 minutes I was there. They wouldn't give me a refund. Winded up sleeping in my car. They should really shut this place down.
Oct 08, 2023 · Nicole BrantIt's a place to sleep but that's it. For the money you pay, you are lucky if the air conditioner works and if it does, it takes forever to cool the room. The only plus, in my opinion, are the mini fridge and the microwave. Never saw bugs but the bed isn't the best. It's okay.
Jul 01, 2021 · Mimi XoMy husband and I stayed for 3 weeks. This place is beyond disgusting and the people who run this place are completely ignorant. Starting with how they didn't have our room available after reserving one far in advance. We decided to pay by night ($76) until the room was ready. Never happened so we continued paying the nightly rate. Come to find from asking around out that they charge DIFFERENT PRICES FOR DIFFERENT PEOPLE!! Asked for a weekly rate and told us $540. The man downstairs with the same room was paying $350 a week. What kind of business is that? The room is disgusting. I found roaches, semen stains on the chairs, furniture that is falling apart, a hole in our sheet. Can't forget this -- you have a large piece of paper as a bath mat.Phone is disconnected and you have to pay a fee for it to work. There is NO WiFiI would not recommend that anybody stay in such a poorly managed motel.
Sep 06, 2014 · Dakotah QuainterDisgusting. Had no choice because was too tired to keep driving. This place is a sh**hole dive. Roaches, dirty floor, dirty comforter, no wifi, and it kinda gave me and my daughter the creeps at nighttime. The man at the desk was just plain rude. I wouldn't recommend it not even to my worst enemies.
Jul 24, 2016 · Bibi anabel sotoWe booked 3 night for our friends, it cost more than other in the area, so we thought it should be better than other, but nope! Heat not working at this cold weather, room is dirty, no one clean and make beds, complain don’t make any change. Don’t waste your money!!!!
