Great green area to take a rest with the family. Places for kids to run. Playground was just renovated. I believe the splash pad should have been part of the renovation project. There is a lake, great for walking around. By the lake you have Playa Bowls for a sweet refreshing treat and Rumbas cafe if you’re more of the cafecito type. By the playground, especially during the warmer months there is always an ice cream stationed there. On Bergenline around 85th st, on the border of the park you’ll see a hot dog truck around. There is dog park, a track you can run around, or walk.. a couple of work out sections one by the track and one on 79th street border before getting to Blvd East. There is also a community garden by the track and a tree sanctuary. Lots too see, people playing soccer, resting areas, benches, basketball, volleyball, tennis, pickleball… am I missing something? I don’t know get creative… there is also an area where you can bar b q… but if you plan on that get there early so you can “get a table” Enjoy the park… I love going in every season but my favorite time is Fall and Winter. In the winter there is a section right below the big James Braddock statue, where families go sledding in the cold winter snow falls. ENJOY - Zoraida Espinosa

These plots allow individuals or families to engage in gardening even if they don't have private yard space. Specific details on how to acquire a plot (e.g., application process, waiting list, annual fees) would typically be managed by the North Bergen or Hudson County Parks Department.
  • Access to Green Space for Cultivation: It offers a dedicated, maintained green area for horticultural activities, promoting outdoor engagement and connection with nature.
  • Community Building and Interaction: The garden fosters a sense of community by bringing together individuals with a shared interest in gardening. This promotes social connections, knowledge sharing, and camaraderie among local residents.

Promotions or Special Offers

As a public community garden operated within a county park, the James J. Braddock Community Garden typically does not offer commercial "promotions" or "special offers" in the traditional retail sense. The primary "offer" is the provision of accessible gardening space for local residents.

However, the value to the community comes in other forms:

  • Affordable Access to Gardening: If there are fees for garden plots, they are typically nominal compared to the cost of maintaining private land for gardening, making it an affordable way to engage in horticulture.
  • Educational Workshops: While not regularly advertised as "promotions," local garden clubs, the Hudson County Extension Office (Rutgers Cooperative Extension), or the North Bergen Parks Department might occasionally offer free or low-cost workshops on gardening techniques, composting, or sustainable practices at or near the community garden. These opportunities add significant value to plot holders and interested community members.
  • Community Events: The garden might host or participate in free community events, such as harvest festivals, plant swaps, or open garden days, fostering community spirit and shared learning. These would be announced through local borough channels or park calendars.
  • Health and Wellness Benefits: The garden continually "promotes" physical activity, stress reduction, and access to fresh produce, contributing to the overall health and well-being of its participants—a priceless benefit.
