Location and Accessibility
Malouf's Mountain Campground is uniquely situated on the Fishkill Ridge, north of Beacon, NY, with its official address being Fishkill, Ridge Trail, Beacon, NY 12508, USA. This location places it squarely within the scenic Hudson Highlands, offering prime access to some of the region's most beloved hiking trails and stunning vistas. What truly sets Malouf's Mountain apart in terms of accessibility for New Yorkers is its innovative approach to transportation.
Due to its mountainous terrain, the campground does not have car access directly to the campsites. Instead, Malouf's Mountain has perfected a system that makes it incredibly convenient for NYC commuters. Visitors can arrive by train via the Metro-North Hudson Line to the Beacon MTA Train Station. From there, the campground offers a dedicated shuttle service that picks up campers at the station and transports them to one of three access points for their hike in. Importantly, this shuttle service also handles the transportation of your gear directly to your campsite, eliminating the need to backpack in with heavy equipment. Shuttles typically run Monday through Sunday on the hour, with the last pick-up at 4 PM daily (and 11 AM on Sundays), making it easy to coordinate with train schedules.
There are three distinct hike-in access points, each offering varying degrees of difficulty and hiking times:
- Access Point 1 (Red Overlook Trailhead): Located about 4.1 miles from the Beacon Train Station, this is the easiest entry, taking approximately 30 minutes to hike to camp.
- Access Point 2: About 2.8 miles from the train station, this trail offers nice views and travels along a stream, with a hiking time of about 2.5 hours.
- Access Point 3 (Old Incline Trail): Starting from the Mt. Beacon Scenic Hudson Parking lot, 2.3 miles from the train station, this is a more challenging hike with beautiful views, taking between 3 to 5 hours. It’s recommended to have a trail map for this one.
For those driving, parking is available at the Beacon Train Station, and campers can then utilize the shuttle service from there. This thoughtful system truly caters to the car-free lifestyle of many New Yorkers, making a mountain escape more accessible than ever before.
Services Offered

- Campsite Options: They offer a variety of campsites to suit different preferences:
- Primitive Sites: These are cleared pads for your tent, equipped with a fire pit and cooking grates. Ideal for hearty campers with their own gear.
- Platform Sites: These elevated sites provide a durable roof for extra shelter, a two-burner propane stove, and a "chow box" with necessary cooking equipment. Campers can bring their own 4-person tent or rent one.
- Gear Rental: For those without camping gear (a common scenario for NYC residents), the campground store offers essential rentals including tents and sleeping bags.
- Meal Options: Campers can choose to bring their own food and cook on-site, or opt for the convenience of ordering ready-to-cook meals from Malouf's Mountain, which can be delivered to your site.
- Well-Equipped Bathhouse: A clean and well-maintained central bathhouse provides modern conveniences with flush toilets, hot showers, and sinks for personal hygiene and dishwashing. There are also dryers available in case gear gets wet.
- Campground Store: A store on-site provides camping essentials such as firewood, maps, bug spray, and a selection of snacks and beverages.
- Drinking Water: All water at the campground is potable and sourced from a well, with water spickets available for easy access.
- Free Wi-Fi: Available at the common picnic area, allowing for some connectivity if needed, though encouraging disconnect in nature.
- Customer Support: The owner and staff are noted for their hospitality, offering assistance and ensuring a welcoming environment from pick-up to drop-off.

Malouf's Mountain Campground Reviews
Such an incredible experience and convenient for NYC commuters with the option to shuttle from the train station. The entire team was more than hospitable and welcoming from pick up to drop off. All three trails have great views and varying degrees of difficulty which is nice. Will continue returning and recommending this site. Can't wait to return this season.
Mar 15, 2025 · Kass GutierrezLovely mountain. Absolutely beautiful with the leaves changing. The owner and staff are super kind. Read the rules on the site. That's exactly what you're getting. We opted out of the long hike because we're out shape. Wish we had arrived earlier so we could take our time to take it and still arrive before dark. The basic campsites are small. My friends squeezed two tents on theirs but I was really happy we only had one on ours. We walked through the elevated sites and they seem worth it. If you have any reservations don't. Just call and ask em. Looking forward to going back.
Nov 05, 2023 · Melissa CharlanaA unique camping experience, if you enjoy hiking and gorgeous views.Note: Google wants me to rate this like a hotel, but it's a campground. As campgrounds go, it's great! Each site has a covered platform to pitch a tent with a gas burner and light. Water and firewood are included in the price. The owner picks you up from the Beacon train station, and brings your camping gear to your site while you hike. Several hiking options are available. We've done the 5 hour and 3 hour options. The views of the Hudson from the mountain top do not disappoint. The terrain can be tricky at times, so make sure to pack your hiking boots!
Jun 18, 2023 · Jim SpalossAn amazing place to find peace and comfort. A hidden gem for locals and a great destination for people who reside in urban areas trying to get in touch with nature.Stayed at the campground with my girlfriend for a few weekends this past Summer. Friendly staff, solid amenities, and clean facilities. Honestly a fun and stress-free camping experience. Made some awesome memories.
Sep 10, 2023 · Kyle Perrucci5 stars because I had an absolute blast, and so did my friends. There's room for improvement though. The website certainly didn't do the place justice. We all expected a slightly less genuine camping experience and thought the hike would be a walk in the park, but both expectations were blown out of the water. The campsite was beautiful and the hike was a legitimate fitness test. Yes, this is more of a pro than a con, but the website could use some sprucing up.The main shortcoming of the campground was the steep slope leading down to the bathhouse and vending area. My knees were doing just fine after our 3 hour hike, but got destroyed by the slope in the campground. It's really not very walkable, yet we had to walk it at least 2-3 times a day. I'd highly recommend either installing steps on the side of the path or relocating the bathhouse to the center of the campground, although I realize these are pretty tall asks.Aside from the above, I only have praises. The platform setup plus food delivery service made for a truly stress-free getaway for my group, who were largely amateur campers and just wanted to get away for a weekend without too much planning. A pure camping experience with no setup at all would've been out of question for us, but Malouf's made it possible to experience the same quality camping excursion. Views from the overlook on hike #2 were spectacular. And the food quality was also shockingly good; the steaks were amazing, after some well-timed BBQing.
