Whether you’re a long-time resident or new to the area, discovering Memorial Park is like finding a new favorite spot right in your backyard.
Memorial Park is ideally situated at 2 Darwin Ave, Rutherford, NJ 07070, USA. Its central location in Rutherford makes it incredibly accessible for residents across the borough and surrounding communities in Bergen County. Getting to the park is straightforward, whether you're driving or utilizing public transportation.
For those arriving by car, there is a large paved parking lot available, complemented by street parking, ensuring that you can usually find a convenient spot, though it's always wise to anticipate some congestion during major events like fireworks displays or baseball games. One recent visitor noted how well-organized street closures were during a fireworks event, making for a very peaceful walk to the park, highlighting the thoughtful planning by the local authorities for community gatherings. The park is easily reachable from major routes in the area, with clear directions provided from Route 3 East and West, as well as Route 17 North and South.
Public transportation is also a viable option. Rutherford Station, part of the Main/Bergen/Port Jervis Line of NJ Transit, is conveniently located on East Erie Avenue in Downtown Rutherford. From the station, the park is a manageable distance, and for even easier access on weekdays, the Rutherford Downtowner Bus and Rutherford Commuter Shuttle also serve the community. These options make Memorial Park a readily accessible destination for everyone, even those without personal vehicles. The commitment to accessibility is evident, with ongoing renovation projects at Memorial Field specifically prioritizing improvements to ensure pathways accommodate individuals with mobility issues, making the park inclusive for all community members.
- Picnic and Pavilion Areas: Memorial Park boasts well-maintained picnic areas, including two pavilions behind Tryon Field. The Borough of Rutherford continually invests in the park through capital improvement projects, such as the multi-phase renovation currently underway. These projects aim to upgrade recreational facilities, ensuring the park remains a modern, safe, and enjoyable space for all. For example, recent grants have secured $3 million for Memorial Field renovations, prioritizing enhanced accessibility, new turf fields for various sports, and upgraded lighting. These investments mean that the park consistently offers top-notch facilities and experiences for free or at very low cost to the public. Residents can stay informed about specific events, programs, and potential seasonal offerings by checking the Rutherford Borough Recreation Department's official website or local community calendars. These often feature free or low-cost activities like summer camps, sports clinics, or community festivals that take place within the park.

Memorial Park Reviews
Tonight were the fireworks at Memorial Park. I attended for the first time. The streets were closed at 5 pm, and I must say it was very well thought out. The streets approx. a block up were all closed, which made it very peaceful walking to the park. It really helped maintain a sound event. The fireworks were GREAT!!!! They blasted off earlier than expected, and the timing was perfect. As soon as they ended, the sky opened up, and it poured lolI'm looking forward to next year!
