Moon Valley Campground is conveniently located at 442 NJ-94, Vernon Township, NJ 07462, USA. This address places it directly on a major state highway, Route 94, ensuring excellent accessibility for visitors arriving by car from various parts of New Jersey and beyond. Vernon Township, nestled in Sussex County, is known for its beautiful natural landscapes, mountains, and extensive outdoor recreational opportunities, making Moon Valley Campground's location highly desirable for outdoor enthusiasts.
The campground's location offers a significant advantage due to its proximity to numerous popular attractions. It provides easy walking access to impressive trails, with direct connections to the Appalachian Trail, specifically situated between the famous "Stairway to Heaven" and "Pochuck Boardwalk" sections. This is a huge draw for hikers and nature lovers. Additionally, it’s just a short drive to Mountain Creek Ski Resort and Waterpark, Minerals Sports Club, and Great Gorge Golf Course, providing a variety of activities for all seasons. Accessibility to the individual campsites is also well-considered. Guests can typically drive their cars directly to their campsite, even for glamping tents nestled in the woods, providing convenient loading and unloading. While the property does feature some uphill gravel roads, a standard car should be sufficient for access. As a private campground, public transportation options are limited, so personal vehicle travel is the recommended method of arrival. Free on-site parking is available.
Moon Valley Campground focuses on providing a comfortable and well-supported camping experience, particularly through its glamping offerings. The services aim to enhance convenience and enjoyment in a natural setting:
- Glamping Tent Accommodations: The primary service is providing upscale outdoor stays in pre-set, comfortable glamping tents (such as canvas tents, geodesic domes) that include amenities like comfortable beds with bedding, pillows, and sometimes even limited solar electricity and indoor seating.
- Primitive Campsites: In addition to glamping, Moon Valley also offers primitive tent sites for those seeking a more traditional camping experience, often featuring a flat gravel area for pitching tents.
- Provided Camp Essentials: Each campsite, whether glamping or primitive, typically includes a fire pit with a grill grate, a picnic table, and an animal-proof garbage container, simplifying the camping setup for guests.
- On-site Firewood Purchase: Guests can conveniently purchase firewood directly at the camp through a self-serve option, eliminating the need to bring their own or search elsewhere.
- Communal Water Access: A communal water access area is available for rinsing off and filling buckets/containers for washing. Guests are advised to bring their own drinking water, as this well water is not tested for potability.
- Clean Outhouse Facilities: While showers are not currently available, a clean porta-potty outhouse is located a short walk from the sites, kept well-stocked for guest convenience.
- Pet-Friendly Options: Specific sites at Moon Valley Campground are pet-friendly, allowing guests to bring their furry companions for an additional fee, enhancing the family-friendly appeal.

Moon Valley Campground Reviews
What an awesome experience. We stayed here on Memorial Day Weekend and it was a perfect reprieve from the hectic weekend. The tent was pristine, the bed and pillows were comfortable. We grilled using the provided fire pit that has a grate over it. We also had a great time doing the recommended activities at Treescape (ropes course and zip lining). There’s walking access to impressive trails and the property in general was well taken care of. The site has perfect cell service allowing you to maintain communications with your host. Looking forward to returning here at our soonest opportunity.
May 26, 2025 · Omar AkelWhat a magical place! We had an amazing time at Hilltop Hideaway as a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 young kids). The bed was very comfortable and the views stunning. Dominic was very helpful and super responsive. The location is perfect with great hiking accessible on the property. We look forward to coming again and trying the other campsites.
Apr 18, 2025 · Amanda NoodellA Hidden Gem in the Hills!Moon Valley Campground in Vernon, NJ completely exceeded my expectations. The property is absolutely stunning—perched on a hillside with panoramic views of the valley and working farm below. Just a short walk from our site, we were indulging in fresh apple cider donuts and ice cream from the farmstand, or setting off to hike the famous Angels Landing section of the Appalachian Trail. We stayed at “The Lookout,” which came fully furnished with a super comfy bed, a table, heater, lights, and all the basics you’d need for a cozy, restful night—and best of all, that million-dollar view! The campsites are thoughtfully spaced so you feel completely secluded, and each one includes a picnic table, fire pit, and secure bear-safe trash containers.Being tucked between Vernon and Warwick meant we were just a quick drive from some incredible farm-to-table dining, too. Whether you’re a seasoned glamper or someone who wants the outdoor experience without roughing it too much, I highly recommend this campground. We can’t wait to come back!
Apr 07, 2025 · Mat JohnsonBeautiful wooded area. Clean tent and plenty of space. Host replies to texts or questions promptly. The inside zipper on tent broke just before I arrived. This was a small incident. Everything else was perfect.
May 02, 2025 · Sandy CelauroWhat a beautiful campsite! Quiet, serene and peaceful. It’s close to lots of fun activities however the first day we found ourselves relaxing at the site because it is just so incredibly peaceful. We stayed at campsite 1 the ground is level, the gravel is nice and even and kept our tent and other things much cleaner. Perfect trees for hanging a hammock on your site. The bathroom was very clean and well stocked. Grounds easy to navigate and fun to explore. Loved being walking distance to Appalachian Trail. Will absolutely be back again.
