Motel 6 Elizabeth, NJ - Newark Liberty Intl Airport Introduce
For those of us in New Jersey looking for a quick and budget-friendly place to stay near Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), options like Motel 6 Elizabeth, NJ - Newark Liberty Intl Airport often come into consideration. Motels are typically known for offering no-frills, economical accommodations, often chosen for their convenience to major transportation hubs or as a last-minute solution. This particular Motel 6 aims to serve travelers needing a basic overnight stay close to EWR.
It's important for local users to approach such accommodations with realistic expectations, especially when budget is a primary concern. Based on recent customer experiences, as with any value-oriented lodging, there can be a range of feedback regarding cleanliness, comfort, and the overall guest experience. This article aims to provide a factual and objective overview of Motel 6 Elizabeth, NJ - Newark Liberty Intl Airport, drawing directly from available public information and customer reviews. Our goal is to help you understand what this motel offers and what to consider when deciding if it's the right choice for your specific travel needs in New Jersey, particularly when factoring in proximity to the airport and pricing.
Motel 6 Elizabeth, NJ - Newark Liberty Intl Airport is located at 819 Spring St, Elizabeth, NJ 07201, USA. This address places it squarely in the vicinity of Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), which is its primary selling point and reason for consideration by many travelers. Its proximity to the airport makes it a seemingly convenient option for those with early morning flights, late arrivals, or during unexpected flight delays.
Accessibility to the hotel from EWR is typically facilitated by an airport shuttle service, a common amenity for airport-area motels. Reviews indicate that the "airport shuttle was on time and helpful," suggesting that transportation between the motel and the airport terminals is a functional aspect of its service. This allows guests to avoid the hassle of taxis or rideshares for direct airport transfers.
However, it is crucial for locals to understand the broader context of its location on Spring Street. This area is generally industrial and heavily trafficked due to its proximity to the airport and major roadways. This means that immediate walkable access to diverse dining, shopping, or entertainment options is severely limited, if not non-existent. Guests would need to rely on transportation to access any amenities outside the motel. Furthermore, customer reviews have raised concerns about the general safety and noise levels of the surrounding area, with mentions of "gunshots" and constant "shouting and sirens" during the night, suggesting that the immediate neighborhood might not feel secure or quiet.
For those traveling by car, the motel likely offers on-site parking, typical for a Motel 6. However, no specific details about the size or security of the parking lot are provided in the given reviews. The focus on airport proximity is clear, but guests should be prepared for an environment that is primarily functional for airport access rather than conducive to leisurely exploration or a sense of tranquil security.
Motel 6 Elizabeth, NJ - Newark Liberty Intl Airport operates as a budget-friendly motel, meaning its services are typically streamlined to provide essential accommodations without extensive frills. Based on customer reviews, the primary services offered are focused on convenience for airport travelers. It's important for guests to manage their expectations regarding the scope and quality of these services.
- Accommodation: The core service is providing guest rooms for overnight stays. Reviews indicate issues with room cleanliness, such as "dirty" rooms, "holes in the linens," and what "looked like feces on the wall." Mattress comfort was also criticized as feeling like "marbles" with "no support" for pillows.
- Airport Shuttle Service: A notable service is the complimentary airport shuttle to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). Guests have found this service to be "on time and helpful," providing direct transportation to and from the terminals.
- Front Desk Assistance: The motel has a front desk for check-in and basic inquiries. However, customer reviews mention that the "hotel clerk was beyond rude and completely unwilling to help," and staff were "not super friendly," indicating potential challenges with customer service during check-in or when issues arise.
- Basic Wi-Fi Access: While not explicitly mentioned in the provided reviews, Motel 6 properties typically offer basic Wi-Fi, often for a fee, or sometimes a limited free tier. Guests should verify this upon booking if connectivity is essential.
- Pet-Friendly Policy: Motel 6 is generally known for its pet-friendly policy, allowing pets to stay free of charge at most locations, though specific details for this property should be confirmed.
It is crucial to note that, as per the provided reviews, guests experienced significant issues related to cleanliness, room condition (cracked floors, mold, broken door), noise from adjacent rooms, and a general feeling of unsafety in the area and within the motel itself. There is no mention of on-site dining, fitness facilities, or other common hotel amenities, aligning with a basic motel model. The emphasis appears to be solely on providing a quick overnight stop near the airport.
Motel 6 Elizabeth, NJ - Newark Liberty Intl Airport, as a budget accommodation, focuses on providing basic lodging with a primary highlight being its proximity to the airport. However, based on recent customer reviews, the features and highlights that would typically contribute positively to a stay are significantly overshadowed by negative experiences. It is important to present these as they are reported by customers.
Features (as intended by a budget motel):
- Proximity to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR): This is the main functional highlight. The motel's location is intended to provide quick and easy access for travelers with early flights or late arrivals.
- Airport Shuttle Service: The availability of an airport shuttle, noted as being "on time and helpful" by one reviewer, is a key service feature that adds convenience for airport transfers.
- Affordable Price Point: As a Motel 6, its typical feature is offering a lower price point compared to full-service hotels, appealing to budget-conscious travelers. (Note: One review mentioned paying $256 for two hours of sleep, which the reviewer found to be uncomfortable and not reflective of good value.)
Challenges / Negative Highlights (as reported by customers):
- Room Cleanliness Issues: Guests reported the "dirtiest hotel room I have ever experienced," with "holes in the linens" and "what looked like feces on the wall." The bathroom walls were described as having "mold covering," and the smell was "unbearable."
- Unsafe and Unpleasant Environment: Customers felt "very unsafe." The area was described as "straight out of a crime drama," with "gunshots" and "shouting and sirens constantly" heard during the night. A broken room door also contributed to feeling unsafe.
- Poor Room Condition: Beyond cleanliness, the physical condition of the rooms was noted as severely poor, with "cracked and uneven floors, with jagged edges."
- Uncomfortable Beds: Mattresses were described as feeling like they had "marbles" in them, and pillows offered "no support."
- Noise Levels: Rooms were reported to be "loud in adjacent rooms," contributing to a lack of sleep.
- Unfriendly/Unhelpful Staff: Reviews highlighted staff being "beyond rude," "completely unwilling to help," and "not super friendly" during check-in and when addressing issues.
Given the significant negative feedback on cleanliness, safety, and room condition, prospective guests should carefully weigh these reported features against the primary convenience of its airport proximity.
As a budget-oriented motel chain, Motel 6 Elizabeth, NJ - Newark Liberty Intl Airport typically focuses on offering consistently low rates rather than extensive "promotions" or "special offers" in the traditional sense, such as discount codes or complex loyalty programs. Their primary "offer" is affordability for a basic stay. However, there are general approaches to securing their best available pricing that locals might consider.
Common "promotions" or ways to get a good rate at a Motel 6 include:
- Consistently Low Rates: Motel 6's brand promise is generally "the lowest price of any national chain," which in itself is their ongoing "promotion." This means they aim to offer competitive pricing year-round, particularly for basic, no-frills accommodation.
- Advanced Booking: While not always a guaranteed discount, booking a room further in advance can sometimes secure a slightly better rate, especially during peak travel periods or when demand is high near the airport.
- Motel 6 Perks Program: Motel 6 has a free loyalty program called "My6®" (formerly "Motel 6 Perks"). While it doesn't typically offer points for free nights, it can provide members with exclusive deals, discounts on certain attractions or services, and streamlined booking. Enrolling in this program is the best way to access any member-specific "offers."
- Extended Stay Rates: For guests needing to stay for several nights or weeks, Motel 6 locations sometimes offer discounted weekly or extended-stay rates. Inquire directly with the front desk if you require a longer booking.
- AAA/AARP Discounts: Many hotel chains, including Motel 6, offer discounts for AAA members or AARP members. Always ask if you qualify for these rates when booking.
- Government/Military Rates: Specific discounts may be available for government employees or military personnel.
It's important to note that the provided customer reviews indicate that even when booking last minute or seeking a budget option, the perceived value for money at this specific location was extremely low due to significant issues with cleanliness, safety, and comfort. One reviewer explicitly stated paying "$256 for two hours sleep... so uncomfortable." This suggests that even if a "promotion" lowers the numerical price, the actual value received might be questionable based on these experiences.

Motel 6 Elizabeth, NJ - Newark Liberty Intl Airport, while offering a budget-friendly option, presents significant challenges that temper its suitability for locals in New Jersey. Based on recent customer reviews, its primary, and perhaps only, suitable function is as an absolute last-minute, very short-term crash pad for travelers facing extreme circumstances near EWR, where no other options are available or affordable.
The key suitability factor is its undeniable proximity to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). For New Jersey residents caught in severe flight delays, cancellations, or needing an immediate overnight stay before an exceptionally early morning flight, the motel's location and "on time and helpful" airport shuttle can provide a bare minimum solution. This allows for direct airport access without needing a taxi or rideshare, which could be a primary consideration when time is of the essence and budget is severely restricted.
However, it is crucial for locals to be fully aware of the significant drawbacks highlighted by customer experiences. The pervasive reports of "dirtiest hotel room," "mold covering the bathroom walls," "cracked and uneven floors," and "holes in the linens" suggest a profound lack of basic cleanliness and maintenance that would deter most travelers seeking a comfortable or hygienic stay. Furthermore, the concerns about safety in the area, with mentions of "gunshots" and "shouting and sirens," coupled with a broken room door, create an environment that reviewers felt was "very unsafe" and contributed to a complete lack of sleep.
The unfriendliness of the staff and the unsupportive mattress and pillows further detract from any potential suitability for a restful experience. While the low price point is typically a draw for Motel 6, one reviewer's sentiment of paying "$256 for two hours sleep between flights and we were so uncomfortable" suggests that even the financial "value" is questionable when basic comfort and safety are compromised.
In summary, for New Jersey locals, Motel 6 Elizabeth, NJ - Newark Liberty Intl Airport's suitability is extremely limited. It might only be considered in emergency airport-related situations where immediate proximity is the only factor of importance and all other options are exhausted, and even then, with a clear understanding of the significant compromises in cleanliness, safety, and comfort that have been widely reported.

Motel 6 Elizabeth, NJ - Newark Liberty Intl Airport Reviews
We booked this hotel last minute to make an early flight out of Newark after being stuck in JFK for three days. It was the dirtiest hotel room I have ever experienced. We slept there for two hours before having to catch our flight. It felt very unsafe, it was loud in adjacent rooms and the staff wasn’t super friendly. Holes in the linens and what looked like feces on the wall. The beds felt like they had marbles in the mattress and the pillows had no support. The airport shuttle was on time and helpful but I still would not recommend this motel. We paid $256 for two hours sleep between flights and we were so uncomfortable.
May 20, 2025 · Diana GonsalvesAbsolutely Horrendous Stay at Motel 6 ElizabethIf I could give this place zero stars, I would. Staying at Motel 6 Elizabeth was like stepping into a nightmare. From the moment we arrived, the experience was a disaster. The hotel clerk was beyond rude and completely unwilling to help us book a room, acting like we were inconveniencing them by trying to stay there. When we finally got a room, it was like walking into a condemned building. The floors were cracked and uneven, with jagged edges that seemed like a lawsuit waiting to happen. There was mold covering the bathroom walls, and the smell was unbearable like something had been rotting in there for weeks. To top it off, the door was broken, leaving us feeling completely unsafe.Speaking of safety, the area around this motel is straight out of a crime drama. Gunshots rang out during the night, and we genuinely feared for our lives. We could hear shouting and sirens constantly. We didn’t sleep at all because we were too busy wondering if we’d make it through the night. This place isn’t just a bad motel; it’s a health and safety hazard. I wouldn’t recommend this location to anyone ever. Save yourself the stress and avoid Motel 6 Elizabeth at all costs. This is the wordy motel I have ever stayed at. This place should get an inspector to clean up the place or send it out of business it was that bad. If I took more pictures of this terrible place I would show it. But here’s a door with a hole in it.
Jan 07, 2025 · Zach IafanoI found this Motel adequate for my needs. My flight got in too late for me to take an Amtrak train to my ultimate destination so I booked a room here in advance. My goal was to have the most inexpensive stay possible in a basic but decent room. I read a lot of the bad reviews after making a non-refundable booking, which made me nervous but I didn’t experience any serious problems and was satisfied with my stay.Check-in was a breeze. The room was clean although there was some wear and tear. All lights and outlets worked. I didn’t use the TV, microwave, or fridge, nor did I try to use wifi so I can’t comment on those. The sheets smelled freshly laundered although the fitted sheet had some stains on it, they were grey dots, so probably nothing gross. Mattress looked brand new.Towels and washcloths were provided. The room included soap, but not shampoo, which would have been nice. One other drawback is the heater was pretty loud but I was able to sleep through it.I saved easily $30-50 staying in this room as opposed to other nearby hotels. Given it was just for one night I’d say the savings were more than worth it.
Dec 18, 2024 · Patrick WileyMy stay at this motel 6 was absolutely terrible. When we arrived at 2 PM to check in, they told us there were no rooms available, even though their website clearly stated that check-in starts at 1 PM. The receptionist ignored us by pretending to talk to someone nearby and answering phone calls instead of helping us. We ended up waiting on the side for over 10 minutes before they even acknowledged us.For two people, they only provided one pillow, which was completely unacceptable. There were no towels in the bathroom, and the faucet was broken, making it unusable. To make things worse, the bedside lamp didn’t work, so I couldn’t even read at night. On top of that, the air conditioner was extremely noisy, waking me up multiple times during the night. However, turning it off wasn’t an option because the room was freezing cold, almost as if I was staying outside. It makes me wonder if the walls were made of paper. The room was also filthy. The floor was covered with mysterious stains, and the desk and chairs had all sorts of strange, colorful marks. This place was an absolute disappointment, and I would never recommend it to anyone.
Dec 08, 2024 · Ella XWhile the outside might be extremely off putting and seem very shady, the rooms are clean and there are absolutely no bed bugs anywhere as the mattress is well wrapped. Also, the towels and the bed sheets smell like they were freshly washed with bleach and they felt extremely clean.I wouldn’t by any means call my stay there “nice” but it was decent and the bed was comfortable. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the obvious hard drug user that hung around the lobby but she wasn’t dangerous or anything (she was actually kinda sweet) so it’s fine. If you have never lived in a metropolitan city or area, this might be a bit noisy for you as the walls are THIN and the planes fly right over the rooms but if you don’t need complete silence to sleep you will be fine.I initially wanted to give this place two stars but I think it earned its third star for how clean the bathroom and beds were (i am saying this as a clean freak, lol). If your plane was delayed to the next day like mine was and you just need a place to stay that is close to the airport, I would recommend this place.Plus, the motel offers free shuttle rides 24/7 so that you don’t need to worry about taxis or buses. The doors double lock btw so you do feel mostly safe. Also the people at the front desk are nice so that’s good!
