NYS&W Railway Bicycle and Pedestrian Path Access

41 Jackson Ave, Pompton Plains, NJ 07444, USA

5.0
A dangerous crossing to access what is a great multi use rail trail. Originally the New York and Greenwood Lake RR, later the Erie RR, and finally the New York Susquehanna and Western RR, this multi use path opened in 2024 following the old railroad right of way. Very little remains of the original railroad along the trail but some stations, signal towers, and a bridge have been preserved. The trail is wide, level, and paved so it’s great for walking, jogging, biking, kids, strollers, walkers, and wheelchairs. No motorized vehicles, no horses, and all dogs must be on a leash. This is one of many trail access points where one has free on street parking to access the trail. There are no playgrounds or bathrooms at any point along the trail. Be careful this is a busy crossing and despite the well marked crosswalk with flashing lights some motorists don’t like to stop. - cdk007

### Promotions or Special Offers

Its primary value proposition is its free and open access to the community. The "offers" associated with this type of public infrastructure are intrinsic to its design and availability:

  • Free Public Access: The most significant "promotion" is that the trail is entirely free to use. There are no entrance fees, tickets, or passes required to walk, jog, or bike along its entire length. This makes it a highly economical option for outdoor recreation for all New Jersey residents.
  • Free On-Street Parking: At many access points, including the one on Jackson Ave in Pompton Plains, "free on street parking" is available. This removes a common barrier to accessing recreational areas and adds significant value for visitors arriving by car.
  • Accessible Design: The trail's "wide, level, and paved" surface effectively "promotes" inclusivity, offering a safe and easy experience for diverse user groups, including those with strollers, walkers, or wheelchairs. This inherent accessibility is a major benefit.
  • Newly Opened (2024): Being a newly opened trail, users benefit from fresh pavement and well-maintained infrastructure, offering a superior and modern trail experience compared to older, unmaintained paths.

While there won't be discount coupons or seasonal sales, the continuous provision of a high-quality, free, and accessible recreational resource serves as the ongoing "special offer" of the NYS&W Railway Bicycle and Pedestrian Path to the communities it serves. Any specific events or organized activities on the trail would typically be advertised by local recreation departments or community groups, not by the trail itself.

### Contact Information

As the NYS&W Railway Bicycle and Pedestrian Path is a public recreational amenity, there isn't a direct "contact person" or specific phone number assigned to the trail itself. Management and maintenance typically fall under the jurisdiction of local municipal or county park and recreation departments, or potentially a dedicated trail conservancy, depending on the specific segment. For information regarding this specific access point in Pompton Plains, inquiries would generally be directed to the municipal authorities.

  • Address: 41 Jackson Ave, Pompton Plains, NJ 07444, USA (This is a specific access point, not an administrative office.)

For general questions about the trail, its maintenance, or any community events that might be held on it, it is recommended to contact the local municipal offices or the recreation department of the municipality in which the trail segment lies. In this case, for the Pompton Plains access point, this would likely be the Pequannock Township Recreation Department or Municipal Clerk's office.
