Saint Nicholas Inn B&B

885 St Nicholas Ave, New York, NY 10032, USA

3.0
The host was as he should be but the rooms he presented to us were not as they seem as advertised. Don’t be fooled the walls looked like they were painted a dozen times over and the floors and corners were covered in some black ash. The SHARED bathroom was filthy and there is no bteakfast. Just a kitchen with no working stove that you mist share with other tenets. While we stayed the host promised we would be the only ones staying for the first couple of days yet I heard voices and laughter right next door to us. I don’t see why he had to lie. It all felt wrong. Stay someehere else if you’d like to stay in New York. This place is not it. - Amy Le

Saint Nicholas Inn B&B Introduce

For New Yorkers seeking a practical and budget-conscious place to stay, or for those welcoming out-of-town guests who prefer a more authentic and less conventional lodging experience, the Saint Nicholas Inn B&B at 885 St Nicholas Avenue in New York, NY 10032, offers a unique alternative to traditional hotels. Situated in the vibrant and historically rich neighborhood of Harlem, this establishment positions itself as a no-frills, community-integrated option for short-term stays in the city. It’s important to approach Saint Nicholas Inn B&B with an understanding of its style – as some guests have noted, it leans more towards a hostel or guesthouse model rather than a conventional Bed & Breakfast with full breakfast service and private en-suite bathrooms. This distinction is key to setting expectations and appreciating what the Inn truly offers: a safe, clean, and incredibly accessible base for exploring the dynamic city.

The Saint Nicholas Inn B&B provides individual rooms within a shared living environment. This setup often appeals to solo travelers, small groups, or those simply looking for a place to rest after long days of sightseeing or work in the city. While the term "B&B" might evoke images of gourmet breakfasts and antique furnishings, the reality at Saint Nicholas Inn B&B is a more pragmatic approach to temporary housing in a high-demand urban area. It's about providing fundamental necessities – a clean room, access to shared facilities, and a secure environment – at a price point that is often more attractive than typical Manhattan hotel rates. The shared facilities, including a kitchen, toilet, and separate shower, are designed to be functional and maintained for shared use, reflecting a communal living style.

Customer experiences indicate that while there may be some discrepancies between advertising and reality, particularly concerning room aesthetics and the "B&B" designation, the core elements of safety and cleanliness are generally met. The Inn aims to provide a straightforward and practical stay, focusing on being a comfortable place to "unwind after long days in the city." The host, Lawrence, is frequently described as kind, contributing to a welcoming atmosphere, even if some initial communication might require patience. This feedback suggests that with proper expectations, guests can indeed have a pleasant and economical stay, allowing them to allocate more of their budget towards experiencing the myriad attractions and activities that New York City has to offer.

Guests looking for the best rates are encouraged to compare prices across these platforms for their desired dates. Given the direct payment policy upfront, as noted in a review, any special pricing would be reflected at the time of booking. It is advisable to check booking sites frequently for any limited-time availability or discounts that might be offered.
