SoBe Hotel Introduce
This introduction provides information about an entity referred to as "SoBe Hotel," located at 1388 1st Ave, New York, NY 10021, USA. It is important to preface this introduction by stating that publicly available customer reviews for this entity, particularly concerning the address provided, consistently highlight severe issues related to booking management, refund processing, and communication. This objective overview aims to present the available information, including these critical customer experiences, within the context of a "Scenic Spot" platform category, while providing a clear advisory to potential users.
The address 1388 1st Ave is situated in a desirable part of New York City's Upper East Side. This neighborhood is known for its residential character, sophisticated ambiance, and excellent access to various city amenities. Located between E 73rd and E 74th Streets, the immediate environment is typically vibrant, featuring a mix of residential buildings, local businesses, supermarkets, and diverse dining options. First Avenue is a major thoroughfare, providing access to bus lines and within reasonable walking distance of subway stations (such as the Q, 4, 5, and 6 lines on Second and Lexington Avenues, respectively), offering convenient transportation throughout Manhattan and beyond.
The Upper East Side itself is considered a "Scenic Spot" due to its proximity to cultural landmarks, upscale shopping, and iconic green spaces. Central Park is a significant draw, located just a few avenues west, providing expansive recreational opportunities. Museum Mile, home to world-renowned institutions like The Met and the Guggenheim, is also within easy reach. The environment is generally safe and well-maintained, appealing to those seeking a classic New York City experience. However, it is crucial to understand that while the physical location is desirable, the operational aspects of "SoBe Hotel" at this address, as described in customer reviews, appear to contradict the quality typically associated with this prestigious neighborhood.
Based on the provided customer reviews, the services offered by "SoBe Hotel" are subject to extremely concerning and negative reports. While a hotel or bed and breakfast typically provides accommodation, booking services, and guest support, the reviews paint a picture of severe operational failures. Customers report unexpected cancellations by "SoBe Hotel" itself, often without prior adequate notice. For instance, one reviewer stated, "I arrived in Boston the day of my stay only to receive a text message from SoBe that they are cancelling on me." This indicates a fundamental breakdown in basic hotel service provision.
The most critical and consistently reported issue pertains to refunds. Multiple reviews detail prolonged, agonizing struggles to receive refunds for cancelled bookings, even when cancellations were initiated by "SoBe Hotel" or made within the stipulated refund window by the customer. Phrases like "I STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED MY REFUND," "Took 9 months to receive his money back," and "still haven’t received a single penny of the full refund that we were supposed to receive within 30 days" are pervasive. This indicates a severe and systemic failure in financial transparency and customer service. Communication with the entity is also described as highly problematic, with customers reporting "calling with no answer" and getting only vague responses like "their refunds team is 'working on it'" after "hours sending texts, emails etc." These reported service failures are contrary to the expected standards of any legitimate hospitality business and are a major red flag for potential guests.
Given the nature of the reviews, the specific features of the accommodation offered by "SoBe Hotel" at 1388 1st Ave are largely overshadowed by the reported operational issues. The reviews mention a "nice apartment I reserved for my graduation from Harvard" and "booked a property with them in NYC," suggesting that "SoBe Hotel" might operate as a short-term rental provider, potentially offering apartments or units within residential buildings rather than a traditional, standalone hotel structure with a lobby and typical hotel rooms. However, the precise type of accommodation or its amenities are not detailed in the provided information.
The dominant "features" of "SoBe Hotel," as described by customers, are unfortunately negative. These include:
- Unilateral Cancellations: The entity has a reported practice of cancelling reservations at short notice, leaving guests stranded.
- Failure to Refund: A pervasive and long-standing issue of withholding or severely delaying legitimate refunds, amounting to what customers describe as "pure robbery" and "criminal."
- Lack of Communication: Extreme difficulty in contacting customer service or receiving substantive responses regarding financial matters.
- Operational Inconsistency: The discrepancy between booking a "nice apartment" and the outcome of the reservation points to significant inconsistencies in their service delivery and possibly their inventory management.
For local users and travelers considering "SoBe Hotel" at 1388 1st Ave, New York, NY 10021, it is imperative to approach with extreme caution. While the physical location in the Upper East Side is undoubtedly a desirable "Scenic Spot," the overwhelming evidence from customer reviews suggests that engaging with this entity carries significant financial and logistical risks. The repeated and severe complaints about non-receipt of refunds and last-minute cancellations are a major deterrent.
The provided reviews explicitly state: "I do not recommend this place," "how can what they do even be LEGAL? It is pure robbery," and "Do yourself a favor and book somewhere else!" These are strong advisories from individuals who claim to have suffered financial loss and significant inconvenience due to the alleged practices of "SoBe Hotel." Prospective guests should prioritize their financial security and travel plans. It is strongly recommended to research alternative accommodation providers with verified positive reputations, especially given the crucial nature of securing a reliable place to stay in New York City. The information available on "SoBe Hotel" at this address does not support a recommendation for booking through them based on reported operational integrity. While its location is appealing, the alleged business practices described by customers overshadow any potential benefits.

SoBe Hotel Reviews
I arrived in Boston the day of my stay only to receive a text message from SoBe that they are cancelling on me. If that wasn't terrible enough - I had to panic book a hotel room for 4 people to share instead of the nice apartment I reserved for my graduation from Harvard. It has now been more than 2 months since my reservation and I STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED MY REFUND. I've been calling with no answer, and I booked through booking.com and been struggling with them as well to get a refund for a stay that was cancelled on ME!This place is truly some kind of scam - the same happened to my husband when he booked a property with then in NYC and cancelled within the refund window. Took 9 months to receive his money back. I do not recommend this place - how can what they do even be LEGAL? It is pure robbery.
Jul 11, 2022 · Alexa YoungOutrageous. We had to cancel a booking over $3,000 we made in October. It’s mid March now and we still haven’t received a single penny of the full refund that we were supposed to receive within 30 days. We have reached out to SoBe NY in various different ways, spent hours sending texts, emails etc. and all we get in response is that their refunds team is “working on it”. Seriously? You’re working on a simple refund for half a year? At this point it’s not just absurdly unprofessional, it’s criminal. Do yourself a favor and book somewhere else!
Mar 17, 2022 · Cecilia SophieBUYER BEWARE!!!! Do not book your stay with this company. I booked a two-bedroom apartment for Thanksgiving weekend and it was less than 24 hrs before check in that I hadn't received any communication from my host so I decided to text them. It was then that they decided to inform me that my reservation had been canceled because they weren't able to validate my information and that a full refund will be issued within 7 business days. Yet, at no point did they ever contact me to inform me that any information was missing or they needed additional information regarding my stay. It's been over a month and I've yet to receive a full refund. I've emailed them every week for a month and they keep telling me that my request has been forwarded to the refunds department. They keep brushing my request to the side and keep avoiding my request to speak to a Manager. This is completely unacceptable and this is not what a reputable business does. BUYER STAY AWAY!
Dec 28, 2021 · mary jasinski77If I could give this absolutely terrible company a 0, I would. I booked my trip to Denver on 05/10/2022. Our check in was on 06/26/2022 at 3 PM. We get to the place at 10 AM, understand I am early, and see if we could check in early and gave them my confirmation info. They said when it got closer to 3 PM, they would send a text with the info on where to park and what apartment we were in. At 3:30, they inform us that they had software troubles and that they could not complete our reservation. They said they would give us a refund. We are sitting in front of where we are supposed to stay. Now we have to find a hotel for 2 nights in downtown Denver at a rate 250-300$ per night. BE AWARE. Booking.com did not inform us that the company was SOBE. I blame both for this absolutely awful experience.
Jun 27, 2022 · Kyle KoelkerDO NOT BOOK WITH THESE!!We cancelled our reservation for May due to COVID in March and we have yet to receive a refund. We have emailed every week since then and called several times and we are no closer to getting our money back. We always get the same email template back saying they are running behind by up to 30 days even though we have been waiting 80 days now.The latest email from them was asking for our bank details as they no longer have our credit card details on file.We 100% believe this place is a scam and has stolen $1500 of our money.I must add that they were not supposed to take a prepayment as when we booked it said we pay at the property.
