Southern Fields Introduce
Southern Fields, located at North Conduit Avenue & 115th Street in the vibrant community of South Ozone Park, Queens, stands as a significant recreational resource for local residents and sports enthusiasts alike. This well-utilized park is a testament to New York City's commitment to providing accessible green spaces and athletic facilities within its diverse neighborhoods. As a prime 'Scenic Spot' in the platform's category, Southern Fields not only offers a pleasant environment for casual visits but also provides robust infrastructure for various sporting activities, making it a central point for community engagement and active lifestyles.
The park's strategic location is notable, nestled between the Aqueduct Racetrack and the Belt Parkway. This positioning, while adjacent to a major highway, has been thoughtfully managed to ensure a relatively safe and functional environment for park-goers. Reviews highlight the presence of a traffic light, which facilitates safe crossing for pedestrians, a crucial detail for families and individuals accessing the park. The address, North Conduit Ave. &, 115th St, South Ozone Park, NY 11420, USA, pinpoints its accessibility within the bustling urban landscape of Queens. For inquiries, the park can be reached at (212) 639-9675 or via mobile at +1 212-639-9675.
The environment of Southern Fields is characterized by its dedication to sports and active recreation. The park spans 5.59 acres, primarily consisting of well-maintained recreational fields. It features a synthetic turf soccer field, a significant asset for the local soccer community, including serving as a home field for the Woodhaven Soccer Club. This artificial surface ensures consistent playability regardless of weather conditions, extending the usability of the field throughout the year. In addition to the soccer pitch, Southern Fields also boasts a grass baseball field and a designated cricket field area. This multi-sport capability makes the park a versatile venue, catering to a wide range of athletic interests prevalent in the diverse South Ozone Park community. The open, expansive nature of the fields allows for ample space for various sports to be played simultaneously or for large group activities.
While the immediate surroundings of the park are defined by urban infrastructure, the focus within Southern Fields is on providing functional and safe sporting grounds. The general environment is one of utility and community activity, with the sounds of children playing and games in progress being a common feature. Despite its proximity to the highway, the park is generally regarded as "pretty safe" by users, indicating a managed environment where recreational pursuits can be enjoyed with peace of mind. The open layout, while lacking extensive natural landscaping or elaborate garden features often found in more passive parks, is precisely what makes it ideal for its primary purpose: athletic endeavors.
In terms of services and features, Southern Fields prioritizes its athletic offerings. The core service provided is access to its high-quality sports fields. The synthetic turf soccer pitch is a standout feature, designed for durability and consistent performance. This is a valuable service for organized sports leagues, casual games, and individual practice sessions. The grass baseball field and cricket field further expand the park's utility, supporting a broader spectrum of local sports traditions. These fields are not merely open spaces but are maintained to a standard that supports competitive and recreational play. The park is officially managed by NYC Parks, ensuring a level of public oversight and maintenance.
However, it is important to note certain aspects of the park's amenities based on user feedback. One recurring comment from real customers is the absence of bathrooms. This is a significant piece of information for visitors, particularly families and those spending extended periods at the park. Users should plan accordingly, as this impacts the overall convenience and comfort of a visit. Despite this, the presence of sufficient space for activities like volleyball practice and the overall feeling of safety, even with the highway nearby, are positives frequently highlighted.
The features of Southern Fields are intrinsically linked to its function as a sports complex. The well-maintained playing surfaces are its primary draw. The synthetic turf is a modern amenity, offering a more resilient and consistent playing experience compared to natural grass fields that can be prone to wear and tear. This makes it a preferred location for regular training and matches. The designation as a "little soccer pitch" by one reviewer, while perhaps underselling its capacity, underscores its dedicated nature for the sport. The ability to accommodate multiple sports, including baseball and cricket, speaks to its versatile design, catering to the diverse sporting preferences within South Ozone Park.
Promotional information for Southern Fields, as a 'Scenic Spot' categorized for services or goods for sale, would center on its utility as a sports venue and a community gathering place for athletic activities. For local users, the primary "service" is the provision of high-quality, accessible public athletic fields. While the park itself does not directly sell goods, its existence supports local sports clubs and potentially creates demand for related services like sports equipment rentals, coaching, or concessions if future development allows. The promotional message would emphasize the opportunity for individuals and groups to engage in active recreation. For example, a promotional tagline might be: "Southern Fields: Your Home for Sports in South Ozone Park – Play, Practice, and Connect!"
Information for potential users would include details about field availability, perhaps encouraging local leagues or teams to book time slots if such a system is in place through NYC Parks. Highlighting the synthetic turf as a benefit for year-round play would also be a key promotional point. For families, emphasizing the safe environment and the ability for children to practice sports like volleyball or soccer would be beneficial. The park's role as a vibrant community hub for physical activity could be central to any promotional campaign, encouraging healthier lifestyles and fostering local connections through shared sporting interests. Given its location, it could also be promoted as a convenient spot for those residing in South Ozone Park and surrounding areas, easily accessible via the Belt Parkway and other local thoroughfares.
While there is no direct commercial aspect of "goods for sale" at Southern Fields itself, the park serves as an indirect driver for local economic activity. Its popularity as a sporting venue may lead to increased patronage of nearby businesses, such as sporting goods stores, casual eateries, or cafes where teams might gather after games. Promotion could subtly hint at this broader benefit to the community, framing the park as an essential part of the local lifestyle. The fact that it's a "decent space" and "amazing little soccer pitch" as per customer reviews provides genuine testimonials that can be incorporated into promotional efforts, building trust and encouraging visits from new users. Ultimately, Southern Fields represents a vital public amenity, dedicated to fostering active recreation and community sports within South Ozone Park.

Southern Fields Reviews
Kids practiced volleyball here. Decent space. No bathrooms. Pretty safe considering it's by the highway. There's a light where you can cross properly.
May 18, 2025 · April Eva BetilaAmazing little soccer pitch. Nestled between the horse track and the belt parkway.
May 29, 2025 · Mo HussainI've been coming here since I was a teenager. it always will be a great place to play.
Jul 22, 2018 · Jonathan RomeroWe urgent need a bathroom 🚻 here.
Apr 07, 2025 · Veronica MacasSoccer and baseball field with lots of room to run around. The soccer field is usually crowded, wood haven soccer club seems to have permits here, the other half of the park seems to usually be free. Great park, but it's never quiet and I wouldn't say it's a good place to relax.
