Dream Downtown, by Hyatt Introduce
For New Yorkers seeking a hotel experience that marries cutting-edge design with a prime location, Dream Downtown, by Hyatt, at 355 W 16th St, New York, NY 10011, USA, certainly aims to make a statement. Nestled between the trendy Meatpacking District and the vibrant Chelsea neighborhood, this hotel is known for its distinctive architecture, featuring a striking stainless steel exterior and iconic porthole windows. It endeavors to offer a stylish and energetic stay, positioned to be a hub for those who appreciate design, nightlife, and easy access to some of Manhattan's most dynamic areas.
While the hotel's aesthetic and location are often lauded, as a local, it's important to approach a stay here with a nuanced perspective, considering various guest experiences. Reviews highlight both the unique charm and potential challenges. Some guests praise the "perfect pick for our young family of four" and the "staff who went beyond our expectations," citing specific instances of exceptional service like a staff member spending hours finding a pack 'n play for a baby. The "lobby was so fun for the kids and the ambiance is super cool," and "views of the skyline from the 9th floor were incredible."
However, other reviews point to significant service inconsistencies, with comments like "the worst service ever" at check-in, issues with staff communication, and amenities not meeting expectations for a hotel at its price point. Aspects like a coffee shop closing "really early," lack of a "on site convenience store," and the rooftop bar not being "associated with the property" (meaning no perks for guests, and high minimum spends or private parties) are recurring themes. Room specific issues, such as "misrepresented" suites, dirty espresso machines, non-functioning TVs and tablets, and broken blinds, suggest a need for more consistent maintenance. Despite these mixed reviews, its location near popular spots like Tao and the High Line remains a strong draw.
Dream Downtown, by Hyatt, is strategically located at 355 W 16th St, New York, NY 10011, USA. This places it in an exceptionally dynamic and desirable part of Manhattan, precisely positioned between the chic Meatpacking District and the culturally rich neighborhood of Chelsea. The immediate vicinity is teeming with "plenty of bars and food options nearby," including world-famous establishments like TAO Downtown and Buddakan, as well as trendy spots like Catch New York and RH Rooftop Restaurant.
Accessibility via public transportation is excellent. The nearest subway station is the 14th Street-Eighth Avenue stop, served by the A, C, E, and L subway lines. This station provides direct connections to major hubs like Times Square, Union Square, and Lower Manhattan, making it easy to navigate the entire city. Numerous bus routes also operate along 8th and 9th Avenues and 14th and 16th Streets, providing convenient surface transit options. For those arriving from outside Manhattan, the proximity to major subway lines ensures a smooth journey. While street parking is difficult, the hotel does offer valet parking for a fee, and there are paid parking garages in the area. Its prime location makes it highly suitable for locals looking for a staycation or for hosting out-of-town guests who want to be in the heart of the action with excellent transit access.

Dream Downtown, by Hyatt Reviews
The worst service ever. There is no on site convenience store, and the coffee shop closes really early. If you’re thirsty for anything besides water, good luck. We had our orders taken at the lobby bar and the bartender never came back. In fact, they just closed up and didn’t even tell us.Check-in day was awful. The first person said I had to wait for a manager. I waited thinking they would find the manager for me, but instead I had to go back to the front desk and wait in line again. The service at the desk has to be the worst people I have ever dealt with at a NY hotel at this price point. Also, I was told late checkout was not available even for globalistsWe checked multiple times for slippers until they finally called to inform us they were “out of slippers”The hotel hosts a rooftop bar but they are not associated with the property. There are no perks for the guests who stay here. The first night wasn’t even busy, but they wanted $300 min spend. The second night it was closed for a private party. Next door is Tao and several other nice establishments. The only nice thing to say about this place is the location is pretty convenient. There are plenty of bars and food options nearby. The suite is misrepresented on the website, as there is only one king bed and one murphy bed. The espresso machine was dirty. The private terrace hot tub made it worth it. But still, I cannot recommend this place in its current state. Also, the TV barely worked. No other amenities. Dollar store soap. The blinds were broken. The tablet doesn’t work. The couch has “stains”
May 26, 2025 · Sean LeePerfect pick for our young family of four! Location and ambiance couldn’t be better. The lobby was so fun for the kids and the ambiance is super cool. The staff went beyond our expectations when Sandra spent hours searching all over Manhattan for a pack n play for our baby to sleep in when we needed a crib at 6 pm! She spent return until she had one (after several Target visits!!) so that we were able to have a pleasant stay with safe sleep for our baby. We were warned about the noise level but it wasn’t an issue at all for any of us to sleep. Views of the skyline from the 9th flop were incredible. 10/10 won’t stay anywhere else in NYC going forward.
Apr 19, 2025 · Andrea MinarikI love this hotel. Dream is definitely a dream. The staff is immaculate. Specifically Shout Out to Sandra, she is awesome. My fiance and I visited Dream in March and she made sure to give us top notch service back then. Now in May she did a phenomenal job. This shows that she is consistent and that is great thing. I also want to shout out Seth, Nick, and Jannett because they did a great job assisting and helping us. Everyone has a great personality. We will continue to stay at Dream Hotel because the service is what you want when you have been traveling for hours. Well done !!!
May 23, 2025 · Mia MyaA MUST VISIT 🌃My husband couldn’t have chosen a better place in the city to celebrate our 4th wedding anniversary! Dream DowntownOur room was phenomenal. The view was breathtaking and so darn romantic. The shape of the windows in our room made us feel like we were looking out the window of a cruise.. So freaking creative. Parking is right across the street from the hotel and we had dinner at Tao which is next door. Can’t forget to mention the club right upstairs!! The outside view and the music variety topped everything off for us!5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️The moment I walked in to this hotel, the first thing I noticed were the welcoming smiles, the cleanliness and the picture perfect lounge/bar area. Thank you to Anthony & the women at the front desk who made us feel at home which for me, service is above every and anything 🫶🏼 You all are the reasons we will most definitely be back XoXo
Apr 21, 2025 · Leslie OrtizIt sucks. Like it really really sucks. Worst Hyatt property I’ve stayed at probably ever, maybe not quite as bad as the Rio Vegas pre-renovation Masquerade tower. I have no idea why Hyatt acquired the Dream hotel group. It feels like a brothel for Tao guests (nightclub next door on the first floor) disguised as a hotel more so than a hotel. It’s like The Cosmopolitan meets Motel 6. The halls and room decor are in ROUGH shape, all the floors and furniture have been abused with no repair and refurbishment. Marks everywhere, carpet in the room is super gross. AC is completely broken. Fan putters for about 5 seconds then gives up when you try to turn it on. Bed feels like a super bad, saggy sofa bed. Shower has this super weird design choice chain mail curtain that is beyond modern edgy and into dungeon territory. If you come here to check it off on the WOH Brand Explorer like I did, just stay for one night and plan a late night out and early exit to minimize time actually spent at this place. My advice to Hyatt is renovate it and actually care about the property or sell it and have another developer convert it into something else.Front desk person is very nice though!
