This charming local park is not widely known for grand attractions or sprawling landscapes, but rather for its intimate, peaceful atmosphere and well-maintained environment. It’s a place designed for quiet contemplation, gentle play, and a refreshing connection with nature right within the city.
For New Jersey residents, especially those in and around Jersey City, Terrace Avenue Park represents a valuable community asset. It provides a much-needed green space for individuals and families alike, offering a comfortable and clean setting for outdoor enjoyment. This article will delve into the specifics of Terrace Avenue Park, exploring its location, what facilities and features it offers, and why it has earned positive remarks from visitors who appreciate its calm and uncrowded nature.
Terrace Avenue Park is conveniently situated at 169 Terrace Ave, Jersey City, NJ 07307, USA. This address places it squarely within a residential neighborhood of Jersey City, making it easily accessible for local residents. Its location on Terrace Avenue ensures it's embedded within the community it serves, meaning many nearby residents can reach it via a short walk.
For those traveling by car, street parking may be available in the surrounding residential areas, though it's always advisable to check local parking regulations and be mindful of residential parking restrictions. While the park itself doesn't boast its own large parking lot, its neighborhood setting generally means that accessing it on foot or via a brief car ride is straightforward for Jersey City inhabitants.
Public transportation options in Jersey City are extensive, and while there might not be a direct bus stop at the park's immediate entrance, several NJ Transit bus routes operate within walking distance along major thoroughfares in the vicinity. Depending on your starting point in Jersey City, a combination of bus travel and a short walk would likely lead you to the park. The beauty of Terrace Avenue Park’s location lies in its integration within the local community, emphasizing its role as a neighborhood amenity. It’s not a destination park that draws crowds from across the state, but rather a quiet haven for those living nearby, providing accessible green space right where they need it.
As a local neighborhood park, Terrace Avenue Park focuses on providing essential recreational services rather than extensive facilities. Its primary "services" are the open spaces and recreational elements it offers to the public. These include:
- Green space for relaxation: The park provides areas of grass and natural surroundings for passive recreation, picnicking, or simply enjoying the outdoors.
- Children's play area: Equipped with structures designed for children to play, such as swings, slides, and climbing frames, allowing kids to safely expend energy and enjoy themselves.
- Benches and seating: Throughout the park, benches are available for visitors to sit, rest, and observe the surroundings, making it comfortable for all ages.

- Waste receptacles: Ensuring the park remains clean and tidy by providing designated bins for trash.
- Public accessibility: Open to the general public during typical park hours, usually from dawn till dusk, without any entry fees.
Terrace Avenue Park’s charm lies in its simplicity and the peaceful experience it offers. Based on visitor reviews, here are some of its key features and highlights:
- Small and Peaceful: The most frequently highlighted feature is its compact size coupled with a tranquil atmosphere. It’s ideal for those seeking a quiet escape from the urban environment.
- Clean Environment: Visitors consistently praise the park's cleanliness, indicating that it is well-maintained and cared for by the local authorities or community. This contributes significantly to a pleasant visitor experience.
- Low Crowds: A significant highlight, especially for families and those seeking solitude, is that the park is often not crowded. Reviews mention "no one was there" or "nobody" being present, allowing for undisturbed enjoyment. This makes it particularly appealing for parents whose children can play freely without feeling overwhelmed by large groups.
- Kid-Friendly Play Area: The park offers a dedicated space where children can play, ensuring it’s a suitable destination for families with young ones looking for a safe and enjoyable outdoor activity.
- Neighborhood Gem: Its location within a residential area gives it a distinct community feel, making it a beloved local spot rather than a tourist attraction. This contributes to its quiet and familiar ambiance.
- Aesthetic Appeal: While not a grand botanical garden, the presence of green space and potentially some trees adds to its natural beauty, providing a pleasant visual break from city architecture.
As a public park operated by the city or local municipality, Terrace Avenue Park typically does not have "promotions" or "special offers" in the commercial sense. Access to the park and all its amenities is generally free of charge for all visitors. Its primary "offer" is the free access to green space, recreational facilities, and a peaceful environment for the community.
However, it's worth noting that local parks often host community events, free classes (like yoga or fitness sessions), or seasonal celebrations, especially during warmer months. These would be considered "special offers" in the sense of free community programming. To find out about any such events, local residents should consult the official Jersey City Department of Recreation and Youth Development website or community calendars. These resources would list any free activities or programs taking place at Terrace Avenue Park or other local parks.

Terrace Avenue Park Reviews
This park is small and peaceful and noone was there when I went in the morning!
Nov 11, 2023 · vishwaja meddelaIt was awesome, it was clean and there was nobody, my kids fully enjoyed it.
Oct 20, 2020 · stephany baezThis little playground is one of those "hidden gems" you hear about. Only this gem is more of a polished piece of quartz you'd find in a stream rather than a diamond in the rough. Anyway. It's tucked in the middle of the neighborhood here so it's close by to a lot of houses. There's a nice jungle gym for the kids, a tennis court that serves as a bike park/walking track/skate park for the time being. The grassy hillside is nice to get some sun while the other side above the jungle gym serves as a dog park and it sometimes smells like it. Yuck. A word to the wise, watch your step on the grass. There's a splash pad too that is sometimes turned on so there's that. The play area is padded so injuries from falls tend to be minor. Adults will be happy to see the 3 large benches that are usually in shade in the mid-afternoon.It's a good little park overall.
Aug 20, 2020 · Mr. PavoneIt has a pretty good tennis court but recently convicts have been doing community service there, resulting in gang members gathering and blocking the entrance to the park. It has turned the park from a fun place for kids, to a place where you and your kids can no longer feel safe due to the non-stop staring of the gang members.
Jul 17, 2020 · Sneh PatelNice quiet park. Not as new as other parks but my toddler still likes it. Just know there's a big hill if you're coming from Kennedy Blvd! Wipes me out every time.
