Located at the intersection of Grandview Avenue and Continental Place, this park lives up to its name by providing ample room for a variety of activities, catering to individuals and families alike. Having undergone recent renovations, it stands as a testament to the ongoing investment in green spaces that enhance the quality of life for local residents.
This park is more than just a patch of grass; it’s a thoughtfully designed community hub that blends active recreational opportunities with peaceful areas for unwinding. Its recent rebuild has introduced modern amenities that meet the needs of today's park-goers, from energetic children to fitness enthusiasts and those simply looking for a quiet moment outdoors. For locals across Staten Island, The Big Park is quickly becoming a go-to spot for everything from a morning jog to an afternoon of family fun, solidifying its place as a key recreational asset in the borough. Its accessibility and diverse offerings make it an appealing choice for anyone looking to make the most of New York City's outdoor environment.
The Big Park is conveniently situated at Grandview Ave &, Continental Pl, Staten Island, NY 10303, USA. This central location in a residential area of Staten Island makes it highly accessible for local New Yorkers. Its position at the corner of Grandview Avenue and Continental Place means it's easily identifiable and reachable from various parts of the surrounding neighborhoods.
For those traveling by public transportation, several MTA bus routes serve the Staten Island area, with stops likely within walking distance of the park on Grandview Avenue or nearby major streets. This ensures that residents relying on public transit can comfortably reach the park. For drivers, street parking is typically available in the vicinity of local parks, although availability can vary depending on the time of day. The park's recent rebuild also suggests attention to overall accessibility, ensuring pathways and facilities are user-friendly. Its location is ideal for quick, spontaneous visits by locals, whether for a lunch break, an after-school play session, or a weekend outing, reinforcing its role as a neighborhood amenity right in the heart of the community.
The Big Park, following its recent rebuild, offers a comprehensive range of services and amenities designed to provide diverse recreational opportunities for New Yorkers of all ages.
- Expansive Grassy Areas: The park features "lots of grass to run around," providing ample open space for informal play, picnics, dog walking (on-leash), and general relaxation.
- Outdoor Exercise Equipment: For fitness enthusiasts, modern exercise equipment is available, allowing adults to engage in various workouts in the fresh air.
- Basketball Courts: Dedicated basketball courts provide space for pick-up games and practice, catering to sports lovers.
- Sprinklers/Spray Showers: A highly popular feature, especially during warmer months, the sprinklers offer a refreshing way for children and adults to cool off and play in the water.
- Children's Playground: A "big children's playground" with "swings for toddlers and for children" ensures that younger visitors have a safe, engaging, and age-appropriate area for active play, including climbing, sliding, and swinging.
- Benches and Seating: Throughout the park, benches are strategically placed for parents supervising children, individuals resting after exercise, or anyone simply wanting to enjoy the park's peaceful atmosphere.
- Modern Well-Maintained Bathroom: Visitors highlight the presence of a "modern well-maintained bathroom" (though some reviews mention cleanliness issues), which is a crucial amenity for extended park visits, providing comfort and convenience.
- Pathways and Walkways: The park likely includes paved pathways that facilitate walking, jogging, and easy navigation for strollers and wheelchairs, ensuring accessibility for all users.
The Big Park, recently rebuilt and thoughtfully designed, offers several compelling features and highlights that make it a standout destination for New Yorkers seeking outdoor recreation and relaxation on Staten Island.
- Recent Modern Reconstruction: A key highlight is that the park was "nicely rebuilt a year or two ago." This ensures that facilities are new, modern, and up-to-date, providing a superior experience compared to older, less maintained parks.
- Diverse Recreational Offerings: The park truly lives up to its name by providing a wide array of activities in one location: extensive grassy areas for open play, modern exercise equipment for adults, dedicated basketball courts, and a large, engaging playground with swings for various age groups. This variety caters to diverse interests and ages within the family.
- Popular Sprinkler Feature: The inclusion of sprinklers is a major draw during warm weather, offering a fun and effective way for children (and adults) to cool down and enjoy water play, making the park a summer favorite.
- Quiet and Pleasant Atmosphere: Despite its range of activities, visitors consistently describe the park as "pleasant and quiet" and "nice and quiet." This balance of active amenities with a calm ambiance is a significant advantage, allowing for both energetic play and peaceful relaxation.
- Well-Maintained (Generally): Reviewers note the park is "well-maintained," particularly praising the modern bathroom facilities. While some individual experiences may vary regarding cleanliness, the overall infrastructure is new and kept in good condition, reflecting a commitment to quality.
- Ample Open Space: The "lots of grass to run around" is a significant highlight, providing children and even pets (on-leash) ample room to play, explore, and simply enjoy open air without feeling confined.
- Community-Oriented Design: The design clearly focuses on serving the local community by providing essential recreational facilities that meet the needs of families, fitness enthusiasts, and those seeking quiet outdoor moments.
As a public park managed by NYC Parks, The Big Park does not typically offer commercial "promotions" or "special offers" in the retail sense. Its primary "promotion" is its open and free accessibility to all New York residents and visitors, providing a valuable community resource without any admission fees.
The ongoing "offer" at The Big Park includes consistent access to its recently rebuilt and modern amenities:
- Free Access to Modern Facilities: Enjoy the updated playground, exercise equipment, basketball courts, and sprinklers at no cost. These modern amenities enhance the recreational experience significantly.
- Complimentary Green Space: The park provides extensive grassy areas for relaxation, picnics, and general outdoor enjoyment without any charge.
- Convenient Public Restrooms: The presence of a modern bathroom (even with occasional cleanliness issues) is a key convenience for longer visits, offered freely to park-goers.
While direct promotions are not part of a public park's operational model, New Yorkers interested in community events, workshops, or seasonal activities that might be held at The Big Park or other Staten Island parks should regularly consult the official NYC Parks website or local Staten Island community boards/newsletters. NYC Parks frequently organizes free programs, such as fitness classes, family days, or educational workshops, which would be communicated through their official channels. These events serve as valuable community "offers" to engage residents and enhance their park experience.

The Big Park Reviews
Pleasant and quiet park lots of grass to run around, exercise equipment, basketball courts, sprinklers. Nicely rebuild a year or two ago. Modern well-maintained bathroom.
Sep 21, 2022 · Alexander LyakhovichNice and quiet park. There is exercise equipment, basketball courts, sprinklers, swings for toddlers and for children, big childrens playground, lots of grass to run around. The only downside of park is that there is no shade as there are no trees in park. Also the bathrooms are new but very dirty.
Jul 15, 2019 · MoisheGood is a very good park, but often smell the smell of marijuana, affect people's health, not good for children, not very recommended to go.
Aug 19, 2022 · EmilyMy kids luv this park it's always clean. Kids are friendly has clean bathrooms. Enough places for parents to hide in the shade on sunny days.
Aug 27, 2022 · Saira AriasClean. Bathrooms were open and relatively clean for a public park but lacked toilet paper. Not a lot of shaded areas for parents to sit and supervise but lots of benches in the sun. I wasn't a fan of the fenced in greenery in the middle of the park it obscured my view an attracted more bugs. The greenery surrounding the park could use some maintenance. But over all the park was highly enjoyed by my child for about 7 hours. He ran in the sprinklers and had a wonderful day.
