For New Yorkers planning a staycation, hosting out-of-town guests, or simply looking for local accommodation, finding the right hotel is crucial. When considering options in Brooklyn, The Brooklyn Hotel on Atlantic Avenue might appear as a possibility. However, based on available public information and genuine customer feedback, it is essential for locals to be fully informed about the potential experiences at this establishment before making any booking decisions. This article aims to provide a candid overview, drawing directly from verified reviews, to help you understand what to expect.
The Brooklyn Hotel is located at 1199 Atlantic Ave in Brooklyn, a busy thoroughfare that offers access to various parts of the borough. While its address might suggest convenience, recent guest experiences highlight significant concerns regarding the quality of the accommodations and the level of service provided. It is important to approach any potential stay with caution and to prioritize your comfort and safety above all else. This overview is designed to arm you with the facts, allowing you to make an informed choice that aligns with your expectations for a pleasant and safe stay in New York City.
Our goal is to ensure that locals have access to transparent and factual information when navigating the many accommodation options in our vibrant city. By presenting the available data, we hope to empower you to select a hotel that genuinely meets your needs and provides a positive experience, whether for personal use or for visiting friends and family. Understanding the real-world conditions of any establishment is the first step toward a satisfactory outcome.
The Brooklyn Hotel is located at 1199 Atlantic Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11216, USA. This address places it along a major commercial artery in Brooklyn, offering proximity to various neighborhoods and transportation hubs. Atlantic Avenue itself is a significant east-west street, connecting downtown Brooklyn with areas further east.
In terms of accessibility, Atlantic Avenue is well-served by public transportation. The hotel's location suggests potential access to several subway lines, including the A, C, G, LIRR, and S trains at various points along Atlantic Avenue and its vicinity. This connectivity typically makes it straightforward to reach different parts of Brooklyn, as well as Manhattan, via subway or bus. For those relying on public transit, the area around the hotel generally offers multiple options for navigating the city.
However, while the geographical location may seem convenient on a map, it is crucial to note that the practical experience of reaching and residing at the hotel, as highlighted by customer reviews, may significantly overshadow the theoretical accessibility. The proximity to transportation does not mitigate concerns raised about the internal conditions or safety aspects of the hotel itself. Therefore, while getting to the address might be easy, the environment upon arrival and throughout the stay is the primary consideration.
Based on available public reviews and customer feedback, the services offered at The Brooklyn Hotel appear to be a significant area of concern. It is important for potential guests to be aware of the reported limitations and issues:
Accommodation Provisions: While the hotel aims to provide rooms for guests, customer reports indicate inconsistencies and deficiencies in room allocation and amenities. Guests have reported receiving rooms that do not match their booking specifications, such as being given a single queen bed when two beds were booked.
Crib/Baby Accommodations: There are explicit reports of the hotel being unresponsive and dismissive regarding requests for essential items like a crib for an infant, indicating a lack of family-friendly services or willingness to accommodate basic guest needs.
Staff Assistance: Multiple reviews highlight issues with staff being "unhelpful and dismissive," suggesting a general lack of concern for guest well-being and problem resolution.
Room Maintenance & Cleanliness: Guests have described rooms as "dirty" and in "horrible condition," indicating that fundamental cleanliness and maintenance standards may not be consistently met.
Elevator Functionality/Safety: A specific concern raised by a customer points to the elevator potentially not being "up to code," which implies a significant safety issue regarding the hotel's infrastructure.
Basic Comforts: Reports mention rooms lacking windows and a pervasive unpleasant odor described as "reeked of crack," which suggests a failure to provide even basic levels of comfort, ventilation, or a sanitary environment.
It is clear from these accounts that the standard of services typically expected from a hotel, including room accuracy, guest support, cleanliness, and safety, have been severely questioned by past visitors.
Based on the publicly available customer reviews, The Brooklyn Hotel exhibits several features and highlights that are frequently cited by past guests. However, it is crucial to understand that these "highlights" are presented from the perspective of negative guest experiences and are not indicative of positive attributes.
Substandard Room Conditions: A recurring highlight from reviews is the description of rooms being in "horrible condition" and "dirty." This feature refers to the reported lack of cleanliness and general disrepair of the accommodations.
Inaccurate Bookings: Guests have highlighted receiving rooms that do not match their reservation details, specifically mentioning being given a single bed when two were booked. This highlights an apparent issue with booking accuracy and room assignment.
Lack of Basic Amenities for Families: A notable "feature" for families, or rather a lack thereof, is the reported dismissal of requests for essential items like a crib for a baby, indicating an absence of family-friendly support.
Unresponsive and Dismissive Staff: Reviewers consistently highlight the staff as being "unhelpful and dismissive," suggesting a pervasive issue with customer service and guest care.
Questionable Building Safety and Environment: Disturbing features mentioned include an elevator that was "definitely not up to code" and a pervasive "reeked of crack" throughout the premises. These are significant safety and environmental concerns highlighted by guests.
Rooms Lacking Windows: Specific rooms have been described as having "no windows," which is a notable feature for those sensitive to natural light or claustrophobic, and can also be a safety concern in certain circumstances.
Overall Unsafe and Anxious Atmosphere: The collective experience, as described by guests, creates an atmosphere where individuals felt "unsafe and anxious," leading to "the worst night of my life" and leaving "nightmares." This reflects the overall negative impact of the hotel's conditions and service on guest well-being.
It is important to reiterate that these are "features" as reported by customers' negative experiences, serving as critical warnings for potential guests.
Given the concerning nature of the customer reviews available for The Brooklyn Hotel, it is highly unlikely that any promotions or special offers would be of interest to potential guests, nor would it be advisable to seek them. When considering accommodations, the primary "offer" should be a safe, clean, and comfortable environment, along with reliable service.
Based on the feedback, the hotel appears to fall significantly short on these fundamental aspects. Reports of "horrible condition," "dirty" rooms, unhelpful staff, potential safety issues with the elevator, and pervasive unpleasant odors indicate that the basic expectations for a hotel stay are not being met.
Therefore, instead of looking for discounts or promotional packages, the most pertinent "offer" to consider in this context is the general advice provided by past guests: "Please do not stay at this hotel" and "STAY FAR FAR AWAY!" The consensus from customer experiences suggests that any savings from a potential "promotion" would be far outweighed by the significant discomfort, anxiety, and potential safety concerns associated with a stay at this establishment. For your safety and peace of mind, it is recommended to prioritize reputable and well-reviewed accommodations over any potential cost savings here.

If you still choose to contact the hotel, these numbers are the direct lines. However, based on the numerous highly negative reviews, it is recommended to exercise extreme caution and fully understand the reported conditions before proceeding with any arrangements.
For locals in the New York region, the decision of where to stay, whether for a quick staycation, housing visiting friends and family, or for any unexpected overnight needs, is an important one. When evaluating The Brooklyn Hotel at 1199 Atlantic Ave, it is critical to weigh the available information carefully. Based on comprehensive public customer reviews, this place is demonstrably unsuitable for locals, and indeed, for anyone seeking a safe, comfortable, or even minimally satisfactory hotel experience in New York City.
The core reasons for its unsuitability are stark and repeatedly highlighted by past guests. Reports of "horrible condition" and "dirty" rooms directly contradict the basic expectation of cleanliness. The absence of windows in some rooms, combined with a pervasive, disturbing odor, signifies a deeply unpleasant and potentially unhealthy environment. Furthermore, issues with room bookings, such as receiving a single bed when two were reserved, and the dismissive attitude towards essential requests like a crib for a baby, indicate a severe lack of guest concern and professional service.
Most critically, the grave concerns raised about safety, specifically an elevator that was "definitely not up to code," and the general feeling of being "unsafe and anxious" expressed by guests, are paramount. For any New Yorker, peace of mind and personal safety are non-negotiable when choosing accommodation. The collective feedback portrays an establishment that not only fails to provide basic comfort but also compromises guest well-being.
Instead of a convenient local option, The Brooklyn Hotel, according to numerous detailed accounts, represents a significant risk of a negative and potentially distressing experience. In a city with countless reputable hotels and guesthouses, local residents have abundant superior alternatives that prioritize guest safety, cleanliness, and satisfactory service. Therefore, for your own peace of mind, safety, and the comfort of anyone you might be booking for, The Brooklyn Hotel is definitively not recommended as a suitable choice for locals in the New York region. It is advised to "stay far, far away" and invest in a more reliable and reputable establishment.

The Brooklyn Hotel Reviews
The Brooklyn Hotel, which was in horrible condition. They gave us a basement room that was dirty and barely fit for anyone. The room only had one queen bed, even though we’d booked for two beds, and when we asked for a crib for our one-year-old baby, they just brushed us off as if it wasn’t important.I felt completely helpless and furious. How could a hotel treat a family like this? It was the worst night of my life. The staff were unhelpful and dismissive, and I was left feeling unsafe and anxious the entire time. Please do not stay at this hotel – they have no concern for guests, and they certainly don’t care about families with children. For your own safety and peace of mind, stay away from this place.
May 27, 2025 · Abdullah YILDIZBAŞIBy far the creepiest place I have ever been. The room had no windows. The elevator definitely was not up to code. The entire place reeked of crack. This this place will give you nightmares! Spend more money on a better hotel and STAY FAR FAR AWAY!
May 23, 2025 · Andrew GDO NOT STAY AT THIS DUMP!!!This “hotel” aka dump is getting 1 star because I can’t give it ZERO stars. I stayed here 9 years ago when it was brand new. It was a beautiful, well maintained hotel. Now, it looks like a dump. Bulletproof glass at the front desk; worn and ripped off faux leather on the lobby furniture; and NO HOT WATER! I didn’t check in for my 4 night stay because they couldn’t guarantee that the water would be fixed that day, but yet they still charged for a 1 night stay even though I never checked in, and found other accommodations. This all happened on a Wednesday evening. Friends arrived at this dump on Saturday evening and the hot water still wasn’t working properly. In addition to getting my money back, I’m filing a complaint with 311. How dare they have no hot water (code violation) and still charge guests.DO NOT STAY AT THIS DUMP!!!
Mar 05, 2025 · L LawrenceIt is not a bad hotel for the price we paid. Yes the elevator is a bit loud and kinda scary. But the room was clean and the bed was comfortable. They also had a place to keep our luggage after check out since our flight wasn't until the evening. Not sure how deep they actually clean the rooms as we found a baggy of unidentified pills in the kleenex box. The subway is walking distance. Though there are some homless, we walked from the subway all hours and were not bothered much. The shower was hot, but the hand held part didnt work. The area can get a little loud at night, but that didnt bother us. The staff was nice enough and brought extra towels and tissue quickly.
Apr 04, 2025 · Crystal WidmerVery run down. Stained bedding. Front desk is behind bullet proof glass so that tells you how dangerous the area is. Front desk gave a stranger the keys to my room. Literally I was in my room and suddenly a stranger was trying to get into my room. Good thing I had the lock latched. There is no daily housekeeping.
