Travers Park Introduce
Travers Park, located at 76-9 34th Avenue in the vibrant neighborhood of Jackson Heights, Queens, NY 11372, is a remarkable example of a meticulously planned and expanded urban green space. Far more than a mere park, it functions as a comprehensive community hub, making it a prime "Scenic Spot" for local users. Its development reflects a strong collaboration between City Hall and community activities, resulting in a versatile and inclusive space that caters to all ages and promotes a healthy, active lifestyle. The official contact for NYC Parks, which oversees Travers Park, is (212) 639-9675 or +1 212-639-9675.
The environment of Travers Park is unique due to its innovative design, extending beyond a traditional park boundary. While it has a core "community park of a few streets block" with traditional park elements, its most significant environmental feature is the "extended park" concept, which crucially includes "34th Avenue of about 20-street block." This extended section, designated as an "Open Street," has transformed a significant portion of the avenue into a pedestrian- and cyclist-friendly zone, effectively expanding the park's reach into the urban fabric. This design ensures that all types of tall trees are "preserved and protected as natural shades from sun heat," contributing significantly to the park's lush and comfortable atmosphere, even in an urban setting. Furthermore, the environment benefits from the historical character of the surrounding area, with "many old buildings in 34th Avenue and 35th Avenue...protected and classified as historical buildings," adding to the aesthetic appeal and cultural richness of the "Scenic Spot." The combination of natural greenery, open spaces, and historical architecture creates a welcoming and visually appealing environment for visitors.
The services offered by Travers Park are extensive and cater to a wide array of recreational and social needs within the diverse Jackson Heights community. As a successful project for "re-design of community park," it provides services suitable for "all ages." Key services include:
- Dedicated Play Areas: The park features a "baby section that is exclusive to babies under 4 years," providing a safe and age-appropriate play environment for the youngest visitors. There's also a separate "4-year above kids section" with various play structures.
- Water Features: A "sprinkler" area offers a refreshing escape during warmer months, providing a popular cooling-off spot for children.
- Sports Facilities: The park boasts a "basketball court" and a "squash court," catering to active individuals and team sports enthusiasts. These facilities provide opportunities for organized games and casual play.
- Fitness and Recreation Paths: The extended 34th Avenue section is a key service, offering "safe field for exercise and rest/break" for "joggers, bikers and community residents." This provides ample space for walking, running, and cycling, promoting physical health and well-being. "Running tracks for seniors" have also been added, demonstrating a commitment to inclusive fitness.
- Seating and Relaxation: The park has "added more seating area," providing comfortable spots for visitors to relax, read, or simply enjoy the park's ambiance.
- Community Gathering Space: The park serves as a vital venue for community activities and events, fostering social interaction and a strong sense of neighborhood belonging.
The features of Travers Park are thoughtfully designed to maximize its utility and appeal to a diverse community.
- Multi-Generational Design: The clear delineation of play areas for different age groups (under 4 and 4+ years) and the inclusion of "running tracks for seniors" are significant features that highlight its inclusive design.
- Man-Made Green-Land Mountain: The presence of a "small man-made green-land mountain" adds topographical interest and a unique play element, providing opportunities for climbing and imaginative play.
- Extended Open Street (34th Avenue): The transformation of 34th Avenue into an "Open Street" is a groundbreaking feature, effectively creating a linear park that vastly expands the usable recreational space. This innovative approach enhances safety for non-vehicular traffic and fosters a vibrant street life.
- Preserved Trees and Natural Shades: The protection of existing tall trees is a crucial environmental feature, providing natural shade and contributing to the park's ecological health and comfort during sunny periods.
- Historical Context and Protection: The fact that surrounding buildings are "protected and classified as historical buildings" adds a layer of cultural richness to the park's setting, offering a unique blend of recreation and heritage.
- Variety of Amenities: The comprehensive list of amenities including playgrounds, sprinklers, swings, basketball, and squash courts, demonstrates the park's versatility and its ability to cater to a wide range of interests.
Promotional information for Travers Park consistently emphasizes its inclusive design and extensive offerings. Customer reviews themselves serve as powerful promotional tools, highlighting the park's success. Key promotional aspects include:
- "An ideal park for a versatile community": This encapsulates the park's ability to cater to diverse age groups and interests, from babies to seniors.
- "A successful project for re-design of community park": This highlights the thoughtful planning and positive impact of its expansion, particularly the 34th Avenue Open Street.
- Emphasis on Health and Wellness: The provision of safe spaces for jogging, biking, and exercise is a key promotional message, appealing to health-conscious residents.
- Community Engagement: The park's role as a venue for community activities and events, facilitated by "City Hall and community activities together," is frequently promoted, showcasing its vibrant social dimension.
- Green Space in an Urban Setting: The preservation of trees and the creation of green areas in a dense neighborhood are promoted as crucial environmental benefits, providing natural beauty and relief from urban intensity.
- Historical Preservation: The mention of protected historical buildings around the park subtly promotes the area's rich heritage, adding another layer to its appeal.

Travers Park Reviews
Travers Park is a community park of a few streets block, which has sport field, playground, and a small man-made green-land mountain. But the extended park does include 34th Avenue of about 20-street block. City Hall and community activities do work together to improve 34th Avenue for joggers, bikers and community residents who want to have safe field for exercise and rest/break.Because of the Park project, all types of tall trees are preserved and protected as natural shades from sun heat. Many old buildings in 34th Avenue and 35th Avenue are all protected and classified as historical buildings. It seems to be a successful project for re-design of community park which seems to suitable for all ages.
Jan 01, 2024 · Ben HsuTravers Park was always a good park with good thought out plan. But now they added more seating area and running tracks for seniors along with the existing sections. Such as, It has baby section that is exclusive to babies under 4 years. Then 4year above kids section, sprinkler, swing, basketball court, squash court and some more. It's a ideal park for a versatile community.
Jan 14, 2020 · M NasrinI personally really love this park. It's small but it has everything I need. Its a clean park, Bench areas, chess and checker table chair areas, you can eat or play. 2 tennis courts. Playground for kids, restrooms, clean women's restroom. Enough trees for shade. This park is on 34th Ave. This Avenue is beautiful full of trees. Safe for running and walking.
Jun 03, 2022 · Claudia Menares PizarroNice place to hangout with Children, friends and family. It has plenty of playing equipment for children. Plenty of comfortable chairs and tables where people can bring their snacks and enjoy with friends and family.
Nov 10, 2022 · Kalu ThapaLove this park! Been there many times and I absolutely love it. Super convenient and comfortable. Close to many schools, overall a great place for people to hang out in. Free music and events there as well. Bathroom needed renovation, and it’s being renovated right now! Very persistent. Nice child friendly environment. I’ve made so many memories here with my friends. Amazing looking after big renovations and changing. Even has recycling bins and water bottle filling station. The community is better with Travers Park.
