Wilde Memorial Park Introduce
Introduction / Overview
Wilde Memorial Park, located in the charming borough of Glen Rock, New Jersey, is far more than just an open space; it's a true community cornerstone. This expansive and well-maintained park offers a diverse array of recreational opportunities, making it a beloved destination for residents of all ages. From its origins, driven by community spirit after a natural disaster, Wilde Memorial Park has grown to become a central hub for outdoor activities, relaxation, and social gatherings. It embodies the essence of Glen Rock's tight-knit community, providing a vital green lung in Bergen County.
The park's history is a testament to local resilience and dedication. When a flood in 1972 destroyed the town's baseball diamond, the community rallied together, forming the Glen Rock Athletic Association (GRAA) and the Glen Rock Recreation Board, to establish a new ball field and comprehensive recreational facilities. Dubbed "Project '76" with the ambitious goal of completion by the American Bicentennial Celebration, local residents, community groups, businesses, and even major companies contributed funds and resources. This incredible collective effort led to the purchase of land from the Bowman Family, with Maggie Bowman even donating three acres. Dedicated on July 4, 1976, Wilde Memorial Park has since been nurtured and enhanced through continued community support, including the sponsorship of facilities by various clubs and ongoing volunteer efforts. This rich history underscores the park's deep roots within the Glen Rock community, making it a place cherished by generations of New Jersey locals.

Promotions or Special Offers
As a public park primarily managed by the Borough of Glen Rock's Recreation Department, Wilde Memorial Park does not typically offer commercial "promotions" or "special offers" in the retail sense. Its value to the community comes from its free accessibility and public amenities. However, there are various ways locals can benefit from and engage with the park, which could be considered its unique "offers" or opportunities:
Free Access to Amenities: The fundamental "offer" is free public access to its extensive facilities, including the playground, walking paths, fields, and benches. This provides an invaluable resource for recreation and relaxation without any cost.
Tennis/Pickleball Badge System: While the courts themselves are part of the public park, organized play on the tennis/pickleball courts requires a tennis badge. Resident badgeholders can make reservations online up to one week in advance, providing a structured and equitable system for court usage. Non-resident badgeholders can reserve courts up to two days in advance by calling the Recreation Department. This ensures fair access to these popular courts.
Picnic Area Rentals: For larger gatherings (50+ people), the picnic area at Wilde Memorial Park can be reserved. While there's a deposit required ($150.00), a portion ($50.00) is refundable if all rules and regulations are followed. This allows families and community groups to host events in a dedicated space.
Community Events and Festivals: The park frequently serves as a venue for free community events, such as the annual "Pride in the Park" celebration with music and activities, and various senior programs like bus trips departing from the park. Keeping an eye on the Glen Rock Borough website or local community calendars is the best way to learn about these free opportunities.
Senior Recreation Programs: The Glen Rock Recreation Department utilizes Wilde Memorial Park as a hub for certain senior-focused programs, including departures for trips and possibly outdoor activities. These programs are designed to enrich the lives of Glen Rock's senior residents.
To stay updated on specific events, reservation procedures, or any new programs associated with Wilde Memorial Park, New Jersey residents are encouraged to regularly check the official Glen Rock Borough website, particularly the Recreation Department section, or follow local community announcements.

Wilde Memorial Park Reviews
Wonderful playground and park. My grandson loved it.
Jul 10, 2019 · SANDIE LEE BUTLERLarge park. Large fields, walking paths, basketball & tennis courts, pavilion, playground, benches. We brought lunch & made a nice day of it.
May 22, 2021 · Jonathan V. Murray, Sotheby's RealtorGreat park for kids and adults. Huge grass area for baseball and I believe soccer, 2 tennis courts, roller hockey rink, recently updated playground set and a small nature path. They used to have a playground area for toddlers, but it was extremely old and run down and eventually removed... but hasn't been replaced yet. Constructing a new toddler play set would definitely bring more kids to the area. Over all nice place though :)
Oct 27, 2017 · Chris HFairly large park with new, nice tennis courts and playground. Unfortunately, I often find a lot of trash around, mostly near the basketball court and hockey rink. Bathrooms aren't very nice and aren't open sometimes. Pretty good park otherwise, I lalways use it as a shortcut
Sep 10, 2020 · Wyatt CornellGreat place for a jog or to walk your dog. They got a baseball field, 4 tennis courts, 1 (rusty) basketball court and a hockey arena. If you go further back there is a large children's playground, a gazebo and a trail/path through a "mini forest" which isn't that long. Pretty great aside from a few downsides: 1) basketball court is rusty and can occasionally be crowded during evenings right before sundown. 2) courts can get swamped after rain 3) courts are horribly lit during night 4) it is nearby the train tracks, so you can occasionally hear the loud honks every now and then. Overall, nice place if you go at the right time
