Ammann Park holds a unique place in the community, possessing features that resonate with residents, even as discussions about its upkeep continue. While its current state may draw mixed reviews, several aspects contribute to its distinct character and appeal:
- Established Green Space: As a 5.3-acre park, Ammann Park represents a significant parcel of green space within Teaneck. In a developed urban environment, the sheer existence of such an expansive natural area is a highlight, offering vital ecological benefits and a necessary respite from concrete and buildings.
- Walking/Bike Paths Amidst Nature: The park's walking and bike paths are a key feature, winding through the landscape. Despite reports of roots and uneven surfaces in some areas, these paths still provide a connection to nature, allowing visitors to experience the calming presence of trees and the outdoors.
- Historical Significance: For long-time residents, Ammann Park carries a deep sense of nostalgia and personal history. It has been a part of the community for many years, evoking "memories" for those who recall its past pristine condition. This shared history contributes to its local identity and emotional value.
- Potential for Renovation and Revitalization: The park's condition, as described in some reviews, highlights its potential for significant improvement. This situation, while challenging, also presents an opportunity for future revitalization efforts to restore and enhance its natural beauty and recreational offerings, bringing it back to its full glory.
- Natural Elements: Even with the observed overgrowth of ivy and roots, the park retains strong natural elements, including mature trees and what was once a "nice pond." These natural features, though in need of care, contribute to its unique character and provide a habitat for local flora and fauna.
- Sports Facilities: The presence of a softball field, tennis courts, and a basketball court (seasonally illuminated) indicates that Ammann Park is designed to be a hub for active recreation. This variety of sports amenities, once fully maintained, offers a significant benefit to local athletes and teams.
These highlights underscore Ammann Park's enduring appeal as a natural space within Teaneck, and its potential to once again become a fully vibrant and pristine community asset.
As a public park under the purview of the Township of Teaneck's Parks and Recreation Department, Ammann Park does not typically offer commercial "promotions" or "special offers" in the retail sense. Its primary value proposition is the free access to green space and recreational amenities for the community.
However, the Teaneck Recreation Department does organize various community programs and events throughout the year across its parks system. While specific events are not exclusively tied to Ammann Park in public records, it's reasonable to expect that, like other Teaneck parks, it could be a venue for or benefit from:
- Permitted League Play: Organized softball or basketball leagues require permits for field and court use. While this is not a "promotion" for individuals, it ensures structured sports opportunities for local teams and clubs.
- General Public Access: The most significant "offer" is the continuous public access to its walking/bike paths, playground, and sports courts during operating hours (8:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily), free of charge for residents.
- Potential for Future Community Events: Should the park undergo revitalization, it could potentially host community events, nature walks, or family-focused programs, as seen in other well-maintained Teaneck parks.
For the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding any scheduled programs, events, or potential improvements related to Ammann Park, residents are advised to contact the Teaneck Recreation Department directly or visit the official Teaneck Township website's Parks and Recreation section. Ammann Park Reviews
Ammann park has been abandoned for years, you can see the border fences encrusted in the trees, paths with lots of protuberance roots, dirty trees invaded for ivy's and lots of roots, the old nice pond , years of careless, looks like drainage, no exit of putrefaction, so sad , the teaneck park supervisor, didn't care for years.Still nice to stroll with memories
May 31, 2020 · eugene wensThe environment and stadium are good, but the amusement facilities are really dirty
Apr 17, 2025 · Courtesy LambGreat place to play all kinds of sports, play in a playground with all amenities or just chill on one of the benches with a good book. Kiddie Pool in the summer. Spacious and we'll kept. Plenty of parking around the perimeter. Dairy Queen right on the corner. No Dogs allowed 😟
Nov 07, 2020 · Arturo Castelo JrNice little park with plenty of benches to watch everyday activities of children at play. Park has tennis courts, basketball courts, a soccer field and swings and lots of climbing apparatus to keep any child happy. In summer they open the pool for the children. Had a nice time today just sitting on this beautiful sunny warm day in February, drawing nature in all her glory. :))
Feb 21, 2018 · Bobbi MariniGood park, could use some TLC in some areas but has a well maintained porter potty bathroom, nice basketball and tennis courts, kids playground and nice biking down hill. Come here after a winter snow storm for some fun sledding with small children. Go early though because it gets crowded.
