Among these, Bruce A. Turcotte Memorial Park stands as a notable location on Clyde Avenue, intended to be a hub for active play and outdoor enjoyment. Named in honor of a dedicated local firefighter, the park is a part of the fabric of the Hopelawn neighborhood, aiming to provide amenities that cater to a range of interests.
As local users, we appreciate having accessible parks where our children can play, and where we can engage in various outdoor activities. The vision for Bruce A. Turcotte Memorial Park is to be a space that enhances the quality of life for residents, offering facilities that promote physical activity and community interaction. It is designed to be a place where families can bring their children, where local sports enthusiasts can enjoy a game, and where everyone can find a patch of green to unwind. The very existence of such a park underscores the importance of public recreational spaces in fostering a healthy and engaged community here in New Jersey.
Bruce A. Turcotte Memorial Park is conveniently located on Clyde Ave, Perth Amboy, NJ 08861, USA, placing it centrally within the Hopelawn section of Woodbridge Township. This location makes the park easily accessible for residents of Perth Amboy and nearby areas. Its presence on Clyde Avenue ensures that it is straightforward to find, whether you are walking from a neighboring street, cycling, or driving. The park serves as a local landmark within Hopelawn, indicating its importance to the immediate community. For those planning a visit, the address provides clear guidance for navigation, and there is typically a parking lot available to accommodate visitors, enhancing its overall convenience. The ease with which locals can reach this park is a significant factor in its use, allowing more families and individuals to benefit from its facilities without extensive travel.
Bruce A. Turcotte Memorial Park is equipped with several amenities aimed at providing diverse recreational opportunities for the community. These include:
Playground: The park features a designated playground area, offering a space where children can engage in active play on swings, slides, and other structures. This is a primary draw for families in the neighborhood, providing a safe and engaging environment for younger visitors.
Baseball Field: For sports enthusiasts, the park includes a baseball field. This facility supports local sports leagues, casual games, and practices, offering a dedicated space for baseball and softball activities.
Basketball Court: A basketball court is also available, providing an area for pick-up games, practice, and organized play for basketball fans of all ages. This amenity contributes to the park's appeal for active recreation.
Parking Lot: To ensure convenient access for visitors, the park provides a parking lot, which is essential for those driving to the location, especially families with children and sports teams carrying equipment.
Open Green Spaces: Beyond the structured recreational areas, the park also offers open grassy areas. These spaces are suitable for a variety of informal activities such as picnicking, relaxing, or simply enjoying the outdoors.
While Bruce A. Turcotte Memorial Park offers valuable recreational facilities, it's important to acknowledge that it has faced challenges in maintaining a consistently positive environment, as reflected in recent local feedback. However, its intended features and inherent potential for community benefit remain key highlights:
Community Hub Potential: The park is centrally located within the Hopelawn neighborhood, designed to be a focal point for community activities and casual gatherings. Its array of facilities, including a playground and sports fields, positions it as a significant public space for residents to connect and recreate.
Dedicated Recreational Spaces: The park provides specific areas for popular sports like baseball and basketball, which are crucial for local leagues, youth development, and general physical activity. These dedicated zones are a valuable asset for local athletes and families.
Playground for Children: The presence of a playground is a major benefit for families with young children, offering a safe and accessible place for kids to expend energy, socialize, and enjoy outdoor play.
Memorial Significance: Named in honor of Bruce A. Turcotte, a local firefighter, the park carries a significant memorial aspect, serving as a tribute to community service and dedication. This adds a layer of civic importance to the park.
Efforts Towards Improvement: While challenges with maintenance and community behavior have been raised by some residents, the very act of voicing these concerns through public reviews indicates a collective desire for the park to live up to its potential as a positive community space. Continued civic engagement and attention from local authorities are essential for addressing these issues and reinforcing the park's intended benefits. The presence of garbage bins and recycling bins, as noted in a review, indicates that infrastructure for cleanliness is in place, and ongoing efforts are needed to ensure its effective use.
As a municipal park, Bruce A. Turcotte Memorial Park does not typically run commercial promotions or special offers like a business would. Its primary "offer" to the community is its ongoing availability as a free, public recreational space. This means residents of Perth Amboy and surrounding areas have complimentary access to its playgrounds, sports fields, and open areas.
However, the true value for locals comes from potential free community events or organized activities that might be hosted at the park by the City of Perth Amboy’s recreation department or local community groups. These could include:
Free Youth Sports Clinics: Occasionally, the local recreation department might organize free clinics for baseball or basketball during specific seasons.
Community Clean-up Days: While not a promotion, these events offer residents an opportunity to actively contribute to the park's upkeep and foster a sense of shared responsibility.
Seasonal Gatherings: The park might serve as a venue for free holiday events, cultural festivals, or other community celebrations, as organized by the city.
To learn about any such community-driven "offers" or events, residents should monitor the official website of the City of Perth Amboy, their recreation department's social media channels, or local community bulletin boards. These resources would provide information on scheduled programs that maximize the public benefit of the park.
For specific inquiries about Bruce A. Turcotte Memorial Park, or to report issues related to park maintenance, community concerns, or to inquire about permits for organized activities, residents should contact the City of Perth Amboy's Parks and Recreation Department or general city services. While a direct phone number for the park itself is not publicly listed as a standalone entity, the general contact for the City of Perth Amboy would be the appropriate channel for information and assistance.
Address: Clyde Ave, Perth Amboy, NJ 08861, USA
We recommend checking the official City of Perth Amboy website for the most current contact details for their Department of Recreation or Public Works, as these departments typically oversee park facilities and address community concerns.
Bruce A. Turcotte Memorial Park, despite some documented challenges, remains a vital part of the Perth Amboy community. For locals, the park’s suitability lies in its foundational offerings: a dedicated playground for children, baseball fields for sports enthusiasts, and a basketball court for active recreation. As one resident noted, their family often spends time "on the swings/playground area," highlighting its importance for immediate family enjoyment. The very existence of such a space, providing free access to outdoor facilities, is invaluable for promoting physical activity and providing a much-needed green escape within an urban environment.
The reviews, while critical of certain aspects, also underscore a deep community investment and desire for the park to be the best it can be. Concerns about cleanliness and unruly behavior, such as "People throw their garbage all over the place," and "Disgusting! ... Beer bottle caps all over the place," indicate that residents care deeply about the park's environment and safety. The call for increased local authority patrols and community engagement from residents themselves demonstrates a proactive approach to improving the park for everyone. This park is suitable for locals because it represents a space with immense potential for positive community use. With ongoing attention from both local authorities and continued active participation from residents in reporting issues and advocating for its betterment, Bruce A. Turcotte Memorial Park can truly fulfill its role as a clean, safe, and enjoyable recreational hub for all families in Perth Amboy. It serves as a reminder that local spaces thrive when the community and its leadership work together to address challenges and uphold shared values of respect and well-being.

Bruce A. Turcotte Memorial Park Reviews
Park gets run down every Sunday by a bunch of animals drinking and blasting music. We call cops, multiple people call them as well you can hear the music across hopelawn.. cops only show up when they leave that must mean they know someone in the work force. It's illegal to drink and blast music at a park disturbing peoples peace. Everyone in the neighborhood is going to involve city council to see who is the cop that does nothing when this happens. Those ppl out there act tough and think they own hopelawn by blocking the road and giving you death stares they come from amboy and you know amboy cops will dismissed this immediately...My kids telling me they felt unsafe and wanted to leave the park throwing beer peeing in peoples lawn this is purely discusting and only animals do that....This park is no longer protected on SUNDAYS a cop knows those ppl and he won't do a dam thing.I'm sure once we find out who this person is will be fired!!
Sep 08, 2024 · Marianne PeraltaDisgusting! People throw their garbage all over the place, even though there are at least 3 garbage bins AND 3 recycling bins. Beer bottle caps all over the place, especially near the baseball fields. Fireworks paraphernalia all over the back fields. And someone's personal belongings...clothes, dresser, even an empty prescription bottle! Nice to know our local authorities are patrolling the area! Now I'm hesitant to bring my child there (even though most of the time we spend on the swings/ playground area.
