The Courtyard brand, part of the Marriott family, is known for its focus on smart, functional design tailored for both business and leisure travelers. The New York Manhattan/Upper East Side location upholds this reputation, offering a consistent and dependable experience that can make any trip go smoothly. Reviewers often praise the attentive service, exemplified by thoughtful gestures like room attendants noticing personal needs and proactive staff members. While even newly renovated rooms can sometimes have "kinks that needed to be worked out," the overall commitment to guest comfort, coupled with amenities like a unique hot water machine in the lobby and the ease of access to the Q train, makes this Courtyard property a noteworthy choice. It’s a place where you can unwind after a busy day exploring the city or attending meetings, offering a comfortable and supportive environment that encourages return visits.

Accessibility to and from the hotel is a significant advantage for guests navigating New York City:
Subway: A major highlight is its "quick walk from the Q train." The Q line, part of the Second Avenue Subway, has a station at 96th Street, just a few blocks north of the hotel. This provides rapid and efficient access to Midtown Manhattan (Times Square, Herald Square, Rockefeller Center), Union Square, and Lower Manhattan (Financial District), allowing guests to "get anywhere in town super quick." Additionally, the 4 and 6 subway lines are accessible via a slightly longer walk (or a short bus ride) to Lexington Avenue, offering further north-south connectivity.
Buses: Numerous MTA bus routes serve the Upper East Side. Crosstown buses on 96th Street connect to the west side, while north-south bus lines along First, Second, Third, Lexington, and Madison Avenues provide extensive coverage throughout Manhattan. Bus stops are readily available near the hotel, offering convenient local travel.
Car and Valet Parking: For guests arriving by car, the hotel offers a valuable "valet service." While driving in Manhattan can be challenging, the availability of valet parking is a significant convenience. Guests can pull onto the sidewalk for unloading before their car is parked by the hotel staff. This is a "clutch" service, as one reviewer noted, easing the stress of urban parking.
Walkability: The hotel's location in a residential part of the UES means it's highly walkable. Guests can easily explore the charming local streets, discover neighborhood cafes and shops, and walk to nearby Carl Schurz Park or the East River Promenade. While Central Park is a longer walk, it's certainly within reach for those who enjoy exploring on foot.
Proximity to FDR Drive: For those driving in or out of the city, the hotel's location near the FDR Drive (East River Drive) provides relatively quick access to major highways, making it convenient for trips to and from airports or other boroughs.
This blend of subway accessibility, bus convenience, and the unique offering of valet parking makes the Courtyard New York Manhattan/Upper East Side a well-connected and practical choice for navigating the city.

Courtyard New York Manhattan/Upper East Side Reviews
Rooms are bigger than I’ve experienced in Manhattan. Situated in a wonderful part of the UES. Valet service was clutch. Fancy hot water machine in the lobby for a cup of chamomile before bed. Room attendants noticed I was out of my personal roll of toothpaste and replenished me with traveler sized (a nice surprise). One of the better Marriott experiences I’ve had in NYC. Did 7 nights and it made the trip go smooth. Quick walk from the Q train. Get anywhere in town super quick. Will return.
Apr 01, 2025 · Joe SerkochI am sure I would usually rate this much higher, but we had some issues. Our stay was early March, 2025. Our room, 1509, had just been renovated and was beautiful, but had some kinks that needed to be worked out. When we got there, we learned that you pull onto the sidewalk to park your car while you unload and get your items into your room. The positives are that the room was clean, the shower head and shower pressure were wonderful, and it has a refrigerator and microwave. The shower has pump shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. We recommended to the hotel to lower the shower curtain because it barely reaches into the tub and could easily slip out. The receptionists were very polite. They told us about the new special water machine that has four flavors of water and was available 24/ 7. We dropped our stuff at the room and visited family literally just down the block. The only problem at this point was the toilet seat kept slipping to the side. It just needed to be tightened up. When we got back to the room in the late evening, we realized the room was too warm for us, so we turned the thermostat down to turn the heat off. I figured out that the thermostat had been wired incorrectly and that we needed to turn it up to turn the heat off. No big deal. The windows open about a half inch so we could cool the room down a bit. The main problem came after we went to bed and the HVAC started making noises. We did not think there would be another room, so we did not go down and check, plus we were not in the mood to pack everything back up and move rooms in the middle of the night. There was a large line in the morning, and we were in a hurry, so we spoke to the front desk when we got back in the early evening. They sent up a maintenance man who tightened the toilet seat and said there's nothing he could do about the other problems. This was totally understandable. He also mentioned he thought we were the first ones to stay in this room after the renovation. We had another noisy night. Because we bought the room with the non-refundable option, this Marriott says it cannot give a cash back refund but can only give points. I think the most frustrating part is that nobody seemed surprised or truly cared that we had a noisy room, even when showed the videos. The only thing we were offered was to have the maintenance man come up and check, and there was no offer of a new room for the second night. There may not have been any more space available. We will definitely go back to this hotel one more time to give it another chance, but will not stay in room 1509.
Mar 30, 2025 · Amy GeiselDespite its location on the upper east side of New York, this hotel is the worst I've ever stayed in. It was dirty, in disrepair, and smelled. I should've realized it was going to be bad when we were checking in and two other guests were leaving in a hurry just after checking in. Although they told us that the hotel was "disgusting" we did not listen. It was, however, a harbinger of things to come. We had two rooms. In one, the toilet overflowed and the hot water kept going in-and-out; the other room, my room, smelled like urine and had a horrible view (it looked directly into an old building about 15 feet away). I suspect, though have no specific proof, that it had bedbugs as well.To make matters worse, the staff at the front desk was uncaring, rude and callous. Even though I am a Marriott Bonvoy member, they could not have cared less. Moreover, my niece, who was staying on another floor in the same hotel -- her room, though on an allegedly renovated floor, also was nasty -- told me that she was paying half the price for her room that I was paying for mine (which was significantly overpriced). When I asked the front desk about this, their explanation was "well you're on a floor that hasn't been renovated yet." I'm not really sure what that means and it doesn't seem very logical. The only conclusion I could reach was that Marriott is charging more for the really crappy rooms because they have to pay for the renovation somehow.I may never stay in another Marriott hotel again. I most certainly will never stay in this one. Shame on you! Shame on you! Shame on you!
Apr 20, 2025 · RGI have been in the hospitality business for 20 years, own several establishments and know talent when I see it. Willie who runs the front desk at this Courtyard Marriott is a one in a million employee and if I owned something in nyc, I would do whatever it took to steal him away. Friendly, polite, prompt, and treated me like I was staying at the Ritz and he was the owner. I was blown away. Huge fan of Willie and this location. Room was large for a New York hotel, clean, and quiet. Great value
Apr 09, 2025 · Dante DeianaThey should have closed during renovations, or offered steep discounts. The room was dirty. Stains on the curtains, and a disturbingly thick layer of greasy dust on the desk. The shower needs repairs, it’s stuck halfway between the shower and bath faucets so water comes out both spots. Reno work starts in the room above at 8am with hammering and drills. And they can’t resolve any of our issues because they’re doing work on so many of the other rooms. Location is good if you’re here for business, and there are plenty of stores and restaurants around. Staff is friendly but there do seem to be some issues on their end. Saw an option to request a foam pillow in the app so I did, nothing ever came. Unfortunately a disappointing Marriott experience. I imagine it will improve after the renovations.
