DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Mahwah Reviews
Terrible service, worst experience ever. I booked the junior suite room via Chase Travel. I checked on the website and made sure it included a king bed and a sofa bed, since we are taking 2 young kids. What we got was a king room, not a suite at all. I talked to the front desk staff, who was a old lady, she at first tried to convince me that what I got was a suite, like I didn’t even know what suite was, and then she was trying to convince me that I booked a king room, because what on the reservation has no “sofabed” mentioned, let alone there was clearly “suite” displayed. She offered me “cancel” the reservation, as if we have some where to go at 9pm. I had chase to call them, after long conversation they finally admitted that they sold out, so they gave me a most similar room, which was a king room. I don’t know how I can book a sold out room a month ahead. Clearly they gave the room to other guest booked later, because there will be a wedding the next day. And they offered me refund of the difference of the room types, but based on the cheapest rate, not the memorial price we booked. Terrible terrible service, tried to lie to people like they were fools, and racist maybe since we are Asian and being treated as we never lived in a hotel before.
May 25, 2025 · Lingfei ZengThis has to be the worst Hilton property I've ever stayed in. Furniture was in horrible condition, the halls and room had a strange musty smell. I actually removed and washed the air conditioner filter as they were caked with dirt. That didn't remove the smell, but the air circulation was improved. The elevator floor was filthy. There was what looked to be chewed chicken on the floor. The location was good, but there are better hotels on Route 17 within a mile of this place.
Apr 30, 2025 · Troy PelfreyI had a terrible experience here. They oversold rooms, and stealthly changed our kingbed+junior suite (which we need for two kids) to kingbed only. The frontdesk first denied the difference and tried to confuse us. With agents' help, they acknowledged the mistakes, and only offer two options: (1) 40$ discount, (2) cancellation at 10pm. The staff keeps saying you can cancel to get full refund. However, It was 10pm, where are we supposed to go? The front desk is really disappointing, it is not about money and it is about kids' experience. also she is such a coward who cannot face and address their mistakes.
May 25, 2025 · Peter LiuIt’s so unfortunate that I have to rate my experience with 1 star. I travel 2x per month and have exclusively stayed at Hilton properties in Princeton, cranbury and mahwah. This is the first time my billing was charged each day for my stay - and a totally different amount that what I booked for. And then charged for my entire stay when I checked out.I’ve only ever used a debit card when traveling and literally never experienced this. $165 + 165 and 146 then $429 for a 3 night stay. Got 3 different explanations for the variance in charges - no one could explain. The GM on site today was condescending and not genuinely helpful in any way. I’ve had the most pleasant experience up to this point and incredibly disappointed by this interaction. Enough to write this review and look elsewhere.
Mar 27, 2025 · MelissaThe hotel is old. The room was very dated. The bathroom wasn't working in the first room we got. The staff was nice to change the room. The elevator wasn't working during our stay.
