DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel New York City - Chelsea Reviews
The reviews had us super nervous about this place, but the price was so right we took a chance. Wow this place is a winner. Of course rooms are small it’s New York (get out and see the place and don’t worry about your room size) but they are very well appointed, extremely clean and comfortable. Perfect location and the elevators were excellent during our stay with no issues. AC in the rooms works great and the beds are very comfortable. Dawn and Janna were lovely and made our stay very enjoyable. Was able to be checked in early which is super accommodating and allowed me to get right to my vacation! Highly recommend this place. One recommendation for the place would be to have plastic cups or glasses for the bathroom! 🙂
May 19, 2025 · athyne3We recently stayed at this hotel in NYC and had a mixed experience. On the positive side, the location is excellent—very central and convenient for exploring the city. The rooms were clean and had all the basic amenities you’d expect, nothing more but definitely functional. The showers were surprisingly nice, and the toiletries (especially the shampoo) were quite good compared to the usual hotel standards. However, coming from a European perspective, this did not feel like a 4-star hotel. The exterior looks rather plain and underwhelming for the price point, and the patio area felt cheap with its plastic furniture. The rooms are also extremely small—barely any space to open a suitcase comfortably. One of the most frustrating aspects was the WiFi. The free internet connection was consistently unreliable, making it difficult to do even basic browsing. We also tried the hotel breakfast, which was another letdown. We expected a nice buffet or at least a pleasant atmosphere, but the breakfast room lacked any charm and felt sterile and uninspired. The service was poor—getting clean cutlery took three tries, and we were given a plastic bottle of orange juice without a proper glass (only takeaway coffee cups were available). Tea was served as a cup of hot water with a tea bag, and when we asked for a separate cup for the bag, the staff didn’t seem to understand the request. On top of that, portion sizes were small and didn’t match the price at all. We were so disappointed with the experience that we chose not to have breakfast there again. In summary, while the location and basic cleanliness were fine, the overall experience did not justify the price. We wouldn’t choose to stay here again.
Apr 18, 2025 · Jo “Travellover567” PMBThe room looked much, much worse than in the photos on Booking. I absolutely disagree with the price they charge. At this price point, there are much better hotels in Manhattan. We were lured in by pretty pictures of the rooms and the views from the windows—none of which we experienced. The air conditioning was louder than the street noise through an open window. The bathroom sink drainage was clogged, the shower gel was not refilled for three days, and there was no cold water coming from any tap—neither in the tub nor in the sink. In the "cold" position, the water was first warm and then even turned hot, just like in the "hot" position. The steam from the hot water during a shower was so intense that the bathroom ventilation couldn't handle it, and the steam spread into the bedroom, triggering the fire alarm. The furniture smelled musty and stale, so I didn’t even put my clothes in it to avoid them picking up the smell. There were no glasses in the room.At breakfast, there was no option to choose any vegetables or salad. Upon checkout, they couldn’t match my Apple Pay transaction with the charge to my card. It took them 10 minutes before they were willing to try to resolve it on the spot. And after I listed all the issues we had with the rooms, we didn’t receive any discount—not even a simple sorry for the inconvenience. The only response we got was a thank-you for reporting the issues and a promise to fix them in the future.I have never written such a bad review, and I’ve never had such a terrible experience with a hotel for this much money.
May 07, 2025 · RichardHURAIAmazing location and our room had great views. Price was good for NY. Beds were so comfy and the room was clean. Only real downside was that the shower was not great, pressure and temperature would consistently drop and you have to stand and wait for it to come back.
May 05, 2025 · Aislinn O'SheaAvoid if possible. Don’t get fooled by the location. I’ve stayed in various Hilton hotel and this is by far the worst among them. They will skip room services and they couldn’t care less about it. Rooms are smaller than average and front desk staff are comparable to a 1-star hotel staff.Go to Marriott instead - that’s much better in terms of consistency and quality and customer service.
