DoubleTree by Hilton New York Midtown Fifth Ave Reviews
The location of this hotel is amazing — right in Midtown and walking distance to just about everything. We had a great view from the 22nd floor, and the beds were super comfy. Showers were nice (when they worked), and the staff was consistently friendly throughout our stay. That said, I can’t give more than 3 stars due to a few major inconveniences. First, the hotel only has 2 elevators for a 26-story building, which led to long wait times even when both were functioning. On our last morning, one elevator was out of service. We waited over 10 minutes for the other one (which was full by the time it reached our floor), and ended up taking 22 flights of stairs down so we wouldn't miss our flight.Even worse, there was no water at all on our last morning — no showers, no flushing toilets, no washing hands, nothing. I felt bad leaving a, let’s just say, “solid” goodbye in the toilet before realizing there was no way to flush. I went down to find the lobby full of frustrated guests demanding refunds. The staff said the water outage was due to an issue out of their control, and they were kind enough to offer bottled water and personally assured me I’d get a 50% refund on the final night (which would be around $200). But as of now, I haven’t seen any refund or follow-up, which is frustrating.I understand things happen, and the staff was kind through it all — but for the most expensive hotel I’ve ever stayed in (over $1300 for 3 nights), I expected better handling of issues like these. At the very least, some proactive communication or a hotel-wide discount on the last night would’ve helped ease the sting.Overall, we had a wonderful time in NYC, but I won’t be staying here again. Next time I’ll book somewhere a little cheaper outside the city.
May 01, 2025 · Andrew KoesterThis was by far the worst stay that I’ve had in 38 years at a hotel. I woke up today to no running water and unfortunately this lasted for over six hours on Easter. I was unable to bathe or even flush the toilet. I’ve never been forced to live in these Conditions. On top of that, there was only two elevators which one of them was broken my entire duration. This made it horrible And very inconvenient to go to my room on the ninth floor and It took 20 minutes at a time. On top of that, the phone did not work in the room.Even though this was a great location to Time Square in Central Park, I wouldn’t stay there if someone paid for me to stay there again. Very unhappy With the conditions. One thing I will say is that the staff was very apologetic but the actual hotel itself it’s no.
Apr 21, 2025 · Jarnita BrownOverall good for the price and location with a few minor annoyances. The service is good, the rooms are clean, and the bed was comfortable. The restaurant has excellent food and a great view. Expect persistent heavy elevator traffic. The bathroom door hinges were quite loud, and the shower leaks water onto the floor. Our neighbors were quiet, but the walls are thin and sound penetrates the room easily. This could be a problem if you happen to be next to a disrespectful guest.
Mar 16, 2025 · Shawn RigdonThis stay was nothing but a disappointment from not having the room ready by 3pm, 1 of the 2 elevators was broken leading to long wait times, to having NO water in the entire hotel to shower, wash or flush the toilet. They claimed they will talk to Expedia and refund me 1/2 the cost! Not ALL the cost but half! They provided nothing and tried to defend the issues as not their fault! Absurb
Apr 20, 2025 · Dan SullivanThe property was very good, small lobby but refurbished rooms and overall the staff I interacted with were nice. The only reason for stars off is, I had to book another night in the city (the reason I booked this location since it was close to my previous hotel) I checked in my luggage early and was assured I would get a phone call as soon as a room was available. I eventually had other obligations and didn’t make it back until later that evening, however seven hours later, three hours past check in time, and you can’t even call me? As a Hilton honors member I found that crazy. Also no late check out at all.Edit: Something I forgot to mention, no do not disturb sign in my room, so mentioned to the front desk I will be leaving for a few hours in the morning and to inform housekeeping. Came back to her trying to get into my room and on the phone with someone.
