Extended Stay America White Plains/Elmsford Introduce
For New Yorkers and those visiting the greater New York metropolitan area, especially Westchester County, finding suitable lodging for more than just a quick overnight stay can be a practical challenge. Whether you're on a temporary work assignment, relocating, undergoing a home renovation, or simply seeking a more budget-friendly option for an extended visit, an extended stay hotel can offer a convenient solution. The Extended Stay America White Plains/Elmsford, located at 118 W Main St, Elmsford, NY 10523, USA, aims to cater to these specific needs.
Extended Stay America properties are designed with longer-term guests in mind, emphasizing functional amenities over luxury. This particular location in Elmsford provides a foundational set of services aimed at making longer stays more comfortable and self-sufficient, primarily through the inclusion of in-room kitchens. While reviews suggest it operates on a "minimal level" and caters to a diverse clientele, it offers a distinct alternative to traditional hotels by focusing on the necessities for a prolonged visit. It's a pragmatic choice for those prioritizing functionality and the ability to prepare their own meals, which can be a significant cost-saver over time. This article will provide a factual overview of what to expect at Extended Stay America White Plains/Elmsford, helping New Yorkers determine if it aligns with their lodging requirements in Westchester County.
Extended Stay America White Plains/Elmsford is situated at 118 W Main St, Elmsford, NY 10523, USA. Elmsford is a village in Westchester County, New York, offering a suburban setting with good connectivity to larger commercial centers like White Plains and to New York City.
The hotel's location offers a practical base for guests needing to access various parts of Westchester County:
- By Car: Driving is the most convenient way to access and navigate from the Extended Stay America White Plains/Elmsford. The hotel is strategically located near major roadways, including the Saw Mill River Parkway (which runs north-south through Westchester and provides access to New York City), and I-287 (the Cross Westchester Expressway), a key east-west artery. This makes it straightforward to reach destinations in White Plains, Tarrytown, Yonkers, and other surrounding towns. On-site parking is typically available for guests.
- Public Transportation (Local): The Westchester County Bee-Line Bus system serves the Elmsford area. While direct routes to the hotel's doorstep may vary, several bus stops are likely within walking distance on Main Street or nearby thoroughfares. Guests can check the Bee-Line Bus schedules for specific routes that connect to the hotel or nearby points of interest.
- Public Transportation (from NYC): For those traveling from New York City, the Metro-North Railroad is the primary option. The closest Metro-North stations are typically in White Plains (Harlem Line) or Tarrytown (Hudson Line). From these stations, guests would need to take a taxi, rideshare service, or a connecting Bee-Line bus to reach the hotel in Elmsford. The total travel time from Grand Central Terminal can range from 45 minutes to over an hour, depending on connections.
- Walkability: The immediate area around the hotel on Main Street may offer some local conveniences, such as gas stations or fast-food establishments. However, Elmsford generally has a "Car-Dependent" Walk Score, meaning that while some essentials might be accessible on foot, a vehicle is usually recommended for broader exploration, grocery shopping, or reaching major commercial centers.
- Proximity to Key Areas: The hotel's designation as "White Plains/Elmsford" highlights its proximity to the city of White Plains, a major business and shopping hub in Westchester. This makes it suitable for individuals on business trips to White Plains or those needing easy access to its amenities without staying directly in the city center.
The location caters well to guests who have their own transportation or are willing to utilize local bus/rideshare services to connect with the broader Westchester area.
Extended Stay America White Plains/Elmsford is designed to offer essential services tailored for guests on longer stays, focusing on functionality and self-sufficiency. While the approach is often "minimalist" as noted by a reviewer, the core services aim to provide a comfortable and convenient home-away-from-home experience:
- Fully Equipped Kitchens: A primary service offered in every room is a fully equipped kitchen. This typically includes a refrigerator, microwave, stovetop, and often a toaster, coffee maker, and basic cookware and dishes. This allows guests to prepare their own meals, which is a significant cost-saving benefit for extended stays.
- On-Site Laundry Facilities: For guests staying for several days or weeks, access to self-service laundry facilities on the premises is a crucial convenience.
- Free Wi-Fi: Complimentary wireless internet access is generally provided throughout the hotel, allowing guests to stay connected for work or leisure.
- Pet-Friendly Accommodation: Extended Stay America properties are typically pet-friendly, offering a service that can be essential for guests traveling with their furry companions (though often with associated fees).
- "Grab-and-Go" Breakfast: As indicated by a review, the "Free breakfast" is usually a basic "grab-and-go" offering, consisting of items like coffee, hot water for tea, muffins, and cereal bars. While minimal, it provides a quick start to the day.
- Weekly Housekeeping: For extended stays, housekeeping services are typically provided on a weekly basis rather than daily, to minimize disruption and maintain the extended-stay model. More frequent cleaning may be available for a fee.
- Free Parking: On-site parking is usually a complimentary service for guests, crucial given the location's reliance on car travel.
- Desk/Work Space in Room: Each room is generally equipped with a desk and chair, providing a dedicated area for guests who are working remotely or need a space for their laptop and papers.
- Flat-Screen TV: Rooms typically include a flat-screen television with a selection of channels for entertainment.
It's important for guests to manage expectations regarding amenities like toiletries, as reviews indicate a "minimal level" of provision (e.g., "just 2 small pieces of soap"). The focus is squarely on functionality for longer-term living rather than luxury hotel services.
Extended Stay America White Plains/Elmsford offers a set of distinct features and highlights designed to cater specifically to guests requiring longer-term accommodations, prioritizing practicality and value:
- In-Room Kitchens: The standout feature in every suite is the fully equipped kitchen. This allows guests to prepare their own meals, which is a significant cost-saving benefit and offers flexibility that traditional hotel rooms do not. It's ideal for those with dietary restrictions or who prefer home-cooked meals.
- Pet-Friendly Policy: For many New Yorkers, the ability to travel or stay with their pets is crucial. This location's pet-friendly policy (usually with a fee) is a major highlight, accommodating guests with furry companions.
- Flexible Long-Term Stays: The hotel is purpose-built for extended stays, offering weekly and monthly rates that are typically more economical than nightly rates at conventional hotels, making it a cost-effective solution for prolonged visits to Westchester.
- Convenient Location for Westchester Access: Its Elmsford address places it strategically near major highways (Saw Mill River Parkway, I-287), providing easy vehicular access to White Plains, Tarrytown, and other key business and recreational hubs in Westchester County.
- On-Site Laundry Facilities: The availability of self-service laundry facilities within the hotel is a practical highlight for guests staying for more than a few days, eliminating the need to seek out laundromats.
- Free Wi-Fi and Parking: These essential amenities, often incurring extra charges at other hotels, are typically complimentary, adding value and convenience for guests.
- Functional Design for Work/Living: Rooms are designed with a dedicated workspace, allowing guests to comfortably conduct business or manage personal tasks during their stay, which is crucial for those on corporate assignments or relocations.
- Budget-Conscious Option: As highlighted by reviews, while minimalist, the hotel provides basic, clean accommodations at a more accessible price point for extended visits compared to higher-tier hotels, making it attractive for budget-conscious travelers.
It's important to set expectations based on the "minimalist" approach, as indicated by guest feedback (e.g., basic breakfast, limited toiletries). The strength of Extended Stay America properties lies in their focus on functional needs for extended stays, rather than luxurious amenities.
Extended Stay America White Plains/Elmsford, like other hotels in the chain, primarily offers promotions and special offers designed to encourage longer stays and provide value, especially for those needing pragmatic, budget-friendly accommodation. These offers often focus on discounted rates for extended periods:
- Extended Stay Discounts: The core "promotion" of Extended Stay America is its pricing structure. They typically offer significantly lower nightly rates for weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly stays compared to single-night bookings. The longer you stay, the more cost-effective the rate generally becomes.
- Seasonal Promotions: The brand often runs seasonal promotions or limited-time offers, which can include percentage discounts off longer stays, or specific deals tied to travel periods. These can be found on their official website.
- Advance Purchase Rates: Guests who book and pay for their stay in advance may receive a discount on the standard rates. These rates are usually non-refundable.
- AAA/AARP Discounts: Members of AAA (American Automobile Association) or AARP (formerly American Association of Retired Persons) may be eligible for discounted rates.
- Government/Military Discounts: Special rates are often available for government employees and active military personnel.
- Corporate Rates: For companies whose employees frequently travel to the White Plains/Elmsford area for business, Extended Stay America often has corporate programs or negotiated rates that can offer significant savings for extended business travel.
- Rewards Program: While Extended Stay America doesn't have its own extensive loyalty program like major hotel chains, they sometimes participate in partner programs or offer direct booking incentives. It's always worth checking their website for any current loyalty perks.
- Free Wi-Fi and Parking: While a standard feature, offering free Wi-Fi and free on-site parking is a value "offer" compared to many hotels that charge for these amenities, contributing to overall cost savings.
It's important for locals considering this option for an extended visit to check the official Extended Stay America website directly or call the hotel to inquire about the best available rates and any current promotions that match their specific length of stay and eligibility. The brand's focus is on providing maximum value for longer-term accommodation needs.

Extended Stay America White Plains/Elmsford Reviews
I do realize that there is an expected difference between a 2 star hotel and a 3,4 or 5 star hotel. That being said one should never be expected to share their hotelRoom with roaches! Beyond that when reporting the presence of said roaches to the staff one would expect something more than “thanks for telling me.” Additionally, our room had a sign posted indicating a $250 fee for violating the no-smoking policy; however, our room had an overwhelming stench of smoke and entering in through the bathroom vent form the adjacent room. All of this seemed to be perfectly acceptable. We mentioned the smoke and that we wanted to ensure we would not be charged any fee because the stench was there when we arrived, the staff member’s response, once again was “yup, thanks for telling me.” Room charge was more than $150 per night so not at all what we expected… they should advertise that this location primarily functions as a long term residence for the unhoused…it is NOT intended to serve as an extended stay for anyone traveling for work or leisure purposes.
Apr 13, 2025 · Nanci CoppolaIt has everything you need but on a very minimal level (even kitchen you can cook in!); for example, no shampoos or shower gels in the bathroom, just 2 small pieces of soap. But it was clean and the stuff helpful. Oh, and don't believe "Free breakfast", it's just a pot of coffee and hot water for tea with some shelf-stable muffins and cereal bars on a little console near reception that you can take to your room.
May 28, 2025 · Maria KapilevichFirst off, I'm confused by some of these reviews. This is a two star hotel, by design. The rooms are half the price or less than you'd pay at a more conventional Marriott or Hilton owned property. It's low budget, temporary housing, and that means it's gonna have its rough edges. That's what my family and I expected when we stayed here a night or two to avoid some home construction. That's exactly what we got.It was adequately clean. Sounds like they had a pest problem a month or two ago, but there was no evidence of that at all in the two rooms we booked. Had several interactions with the staff which ranged from functional to downright pleasant. The furniture and the decor are definitely basic and worn, but functional and good enough. We ran into several other guests who were a little colorful, but otherwise friendly. They have a liberal pet policy and don't charge very much to have your pets with you (way way less than other hotels). The "location" is nothing special at all, but it is conveniently located next to major roads with lots of nice little towns very close by.So yeah, I give it three stars down the line, because it's not built to be anything more than that. For what it is, for what it intends, it was really solid. If you're looking for a cheap, no frills place, especially when you can stay with your pets, this is it.
Mar 01, 2025 · Wes PomeroyVery disappointing 2-week stay. The “full kitchen” had no cutlery, glasses, or dishwasher — and they didn’t have enough even when requested. No condiments or basic kitchen supplies provided. The lobby and some rooms had a strong, unpleasant odor that never went away. Housekeeping is only once a week, which we weren’t told upfront. Breakfast was just coffee and muffins — not acceptable for an extended stay. Poorly managed overall and lacking even basic comfort. Not recommended for business or long-term stays.
May 10, 2025 · Vivek MittalMy reservation at your property was from April 26 to May 3, made under my name. Upon check-in, I received a call from the front desk requesting that I immediately vacate the room due to a miscommunication related to a prior stay by my guest. The hotel had incorrectly claimed that an extra night was charged, although no additional night was stayed. While the disputed charge was eventually written off by Extended Stay, the front desk still insisted on payment but lacked the capability to process it. This led to an over one-hour phone call with customer service just to resolve the matter—an unnecessarily frustrating and unfair situation- I chose not to escalate it further at the time.On the first night, we encountered cockroaches in the room. When reported, John at the front desk attempted to offer an alternative room, but the only available one was in unacceptable condition. We were told that a room on a higher floor might be provided, but no such accommodation was ever offered or followed up on.On the second night, I was bitten by something in the room. I have a known sensitivity to bug bites, and as a result, the front and back of my neck became swollen. I was forced to take medication to reduce the swelling, though fortunately, I did not require hospital care.On the second-to-last night 5/2, I requested an early checkout and asked the front desk to ensure my room cards would be deactivated so by May 3 the check out process would be smooth for them. However, when I called the room to confirm it was vacant, someone answered the phone—indicating that someone had entered or remained in the room against my explicit instructions.Overall, my stay was extremely disappointing. The cleanliness of the facility was unacceptable, and the issue with cockroaches was never addressed. The customer service was poor, and the general lack of professionalism and follow-through was alarming.I called on Monday night, requesting that the manager, Amanda, contact me to discuss some concerns, but I did not receive a response. I was informed that she would return my call at her convenience. I was later told that she had been very busy on Tuesday and was attending a conference on Wednesday. Instead of hearing from Amanda directly, one of her employees followed up with me in a manner that felt confrontational. During the conversation, the employee stated that Amanda would not be responding to me, as I had already been “shown grace” — referring to an incident during which law enforcement was present on the premises. Please note that nobody at the hotel followed up with me regarding any incident to show grace at the hotel. To add to this, it’s concerning that the manager, Amanda, can make the time to pay late night visits to guests bedroom afterhours. A leader should not behave in that way and should really focus on ensuring the proper operation, hygiene of the hotel and customer experience. This experience was unacceptable, and I am formally requesting that this complaint be acknowledged and appropriately addressed.
