I cannot think of a better hotel experience that the one I had at GrayBarns, and I already can't wait to return! The rooms were spacious, cozy, and furnished with the most incredible attention to detail: fluffy robes and Frette slippers, a soaking tub with bath salts, gorgeous furniture, a generous bountiful free breakfast each morning with fresh ingredients, friendly and helpful staff, a sleek fitness studio, and an in-house restaurant. The inn is situated on a river with a willow tree, and the entire hotel experience was tranquil and rejuvenating. Thank you GrayBarns for an exceptional stay! - Ilana Gilovich

GrayBarns on the Silvermine River Introduce

For residents of Connecticut, the idea of a local escape that combines historic charm with modern luxury often seems like a dream. GrayBarns on the Silvermine River, nestled in the picturesque Silvermine area of Norwalk, CT, transforms this dream into a tangible reality. This isn't just a hotel; it's a meticulously restored 18th-century inn that has been reimagined as a tranquil haven, offering a bespoke experience for those seeking relaxation, culinary delight, and a deep connection to the serene natural beauty of the Silvermine River. As a local, you understand the appeal of finding such a sophisticated yet comforting retreat right within our state, avoiding the need for extensive travel while still feeling a world away.

GrayBarns on the Silvermine River has a rich and storied past. What began as a small textile factory at the turn of the 19th century evolved into a popular village meeting place, an artist outpost, and even a speakeasy during the Prohibition era. It later thrived as a classic country inn throughout the mid-20th century. Today, under thoughtful ownership, GrayBarns has been exquisitely renovated, returning to its traditional architectural roots with ample porches and stately columns, while integrating contemporary design and luxurious amenities. This blend of heritage and modern comfort creates an ambiance that is both elegant and inviting.

The property itself is a harmonious blend of natural beauty and refined design. Overlooking the tranquil Silvermine River and Guthrie Pond, with the iconic Silvermine waterfall as a centerpiece, GrayBarns offers breathtaking views and a calming soundtrack of rushing water. This attention to detail extends to every facet of the guest experience, from the exquisitely appointed suites to the acclaimed on-site dining and personalized wellness offerings. For locals, GrayBarns represents not just an accommodation option, but a destination in itself – a place where you can celebrate special occasions, enjoy a rejuvenating staycation, or simply indulge in an exceptional meal at The Tavern, making it a true jewel in Connecticut's hospitality landscape.

GrayBarns on the Silvermine River is gracefully situated at 194 Perry Ave, Norwalk, CT 06850, USA. The drive is scenic, winding through charming New England landscapes as you approach the inn. Ample free onsite parking, including complimentary valet service at The Tavern entrance, is available for guests, ensuring a seamless arrival.

However, for locals, there are unique ways to engage with and enjoy the property, often through its dining and community-oriented offerings.

While room rates are set to reflect the premium experience, special "offers" often manifest in the form of bespoke packages, seasonal culinary events at The Tavern, or unique wellness programs. Locals interested in experiencing GrayBarns without an overnight stay can take advantage of:

  • Dining at The Tavern: The acclaimed restaurant is a destination in itself, open to the public for lunch, dinner, and Sunday brunch. Reservations are highly recommended, especially on weekends, as it's a popular spot for both guests and locals. This provides an opportunity to savor their farm-to-table cuisine and enjoy the elegant ambiance.
  • Mercantile Offerings: The Mercantile at GrayBarns functions as a neighborhood café and marketplace, offering coffee, pastries, prepared foods, and curated provisions. Locals can stop by for a casual coffee, grab a gourmet meal to-go, or enjoy an evening cocktail at "The Gray Area."
