For us New Yorkers, particularly those residing in Mahopac and the surrounding areas of Putnam County, Sycamore Town Park stands as a cornerstone of community recreation. This expansive park is more than just a green space; it's a comprehensive hub offering a diverse array of activities and amenities designed to cater to all ages and interests. Whether you're looking for a relaxing day by the water, an active sports session, or a safe place for the kids to play, Sycamore Town Park provides a fantastic solution right here in our own backyard.
Encompassing 32 acres, with 18 acres fully developed for both land and water activities, Sycamore Town Park is a true multi-faceted destination. Its impressive features include a spacious beach, providing a refreshing escape during warmer months, and a generously sized playground area that caters to children of varying ages with separate sections. Beyond these, the park boasts multiple courts for tennis, pickleball, and basketball, along with fields for baseball and football, making it a central spot for athletic pursuits. And for our furry family members, the innovative Sycamore Bark Park offers a dedicated off-leash experience.
As one local reviewer enthusiastically noted, "Best Park in the area for kids 1-8! We always have a great time here. They also have tennis, pickleball, basketball and some other interesting game. Oh AND a dog park.!" This highlights the broad appeal and utility of the park. While some of its structures might evoke a sense of its established history, ongoing maintenance efforts by the Town of Carmel Recreation and Parks Department ensure it remains a beloved and highly functional space for the community. It's a place where childhood memories are made, friendships are forged on the courts, and the simple joy of outdoor living is celebrated daily.
Sycamore Town Park is ideally situated at 790 Long Pond Road, Mahopac, NY 10541, USA. This central location within Mahopac makes it highly accessible for residents of Carmel, Mahopac, and other nearby communities in Putnam County. The park's address makes it straightforward to locate using GPS, guiding visitors directly to its well-known entrance.
Access to the park is primarily by car, and visitors will find ample parking available on-site, designed to accommodate the influx of users during peak seasons or special events. While one review mentioned some confusion regarding signage and ongoing construction, the park's main paved road typically leads around the base of a hill to the primary recreational areas, including the playground and beach. It's always a good idea to follow official park signage once inside for the easiest navigation.
The park's extensive 32 acres mean there's plenty of space to explore once you arrive. Its location on Long Pond provides beautiful water access, while the various sports courts and fields are clustered for convenient use. For locals, Sycamore Town Park's accessible location ensures that a wide array of recreational opportunities is just a short drive away, making it a go-to destination for spontaneous outings or planned activities.

Sycamore Town Park is a vibrant, active community park, with the Town of Carmel Recreation and Parks Department overseeing its operation and maintenance. While many amenities are available for general public use, it's important to note that access to the beach area typically requires a resident permit, and organized events or large group gatherings may require facility rentals or permits through the Recreation Department.
- Long Pond Beach: A spacious sandy beach on Long Pond offers a refreshing swimming spot during the summer, a highly valued amenity for town residents.

As a municipal park, Sycamore Town Park provides general public access to many of its facilities for free, serving as its primary "special offer" to the community. This includes use of playgrounds, tennis, pickleball, and basketball courts, and general open spaces for casual recreation.
However, certain amenities and programs do have fees or require permits, which are managed by the Town of Carmel Recreation and Parks Department:
- Beach Access: Access to the beach area at Sycamore Park is typically reserved for Town of Carmel residents and requires the purchase of beach passes or proof of residency. This ensures the beach remains a valued amenity for the local community.
- Facility Rentals: Town of Carmel residents can rent picnic areas with grills and tables for parties and gatherings. This usually requires an application, payment, and often a Certificate of Liability Insurance. Non-residents generally cannot rent facilities.
- Sycamore Bark Park Membership: As noted in the dedicated dog park section, access to Sycamore Bark Park is member-only, with annual fees for residents and non-residents to cover maintenance and exclusivity.
- Summer Camp: The park hosts various summer camp programs, which require registration and associated fees.
- Sunset Concert Series: The park hosts a "Sunset Concert Series" during the summer, often featuring local bands, food trucks, and giveaways. These events are generally free to attend and provide excellent community entertainment.

Sycamore Town Park Reviews
For a town park it was beautiful, needs to be updated; OLD looking homes, some structures not well keep, no lights in the bathroom ( bathroom signs aren't around) no clear signs, should offer lunch too or kitchen should be open ( not sure if they have one) ONE PART I HATE: BEACH IS ONLY FOR RESIDENTS, do I need a permit to BBQ there
Apr 01, 2019 · Bernice WillinsBest Park in the area for kids 1-8! We always have a great time here. They also have tennis, pickle ball, basketball and some other interesting game. Oh AND a dog park.!
Jun 24, 2023 · Johnathon “Jay” FantanoPlayground equipment is new and well maintained. There are 2 separate playground to allow younger children to play away from the older children. There are picnic tables under a roof for people to sit at. The only issue was the lack of a bathroom.Getting to the playground is confusing as there is no signage. It looks like they are expanding the parking lot so there is construction vehicles and barricades set up. You have to follow the paved road around the base of the hill, next to the construction, to get to the playground and beach.
May 13, 2019 · Tim WalshjaminAs of now it's a disaster, I'm hoping that before this summer it looks like a park and not a new york city st under construction for ever, we pay enough taxes to deserve something better! Don't you think? Since the last time I gave my review, there's been a great improvement, not not a 5 star because there's more to be done, but definitely improved
